03:55:57 syv: Getting to have a stat at 1d12 when base is 1d6 is *extremely* strong.
03:56:14 syv: That implies your opponent *critfails* 50% of the time.
03:56:45 syv: And just conventionally fails 71% of the time.
03:56:55 syv: Before any gear or equipment is considered.
03:58:35 syv: ...
Devastator, you should probably have a harder threshold for critfails.
03:59:39 syv: Checking anydice, opposed d6 has the loser roll half or less of the victor 25% of the time. Which makes sense, thinking about it for a moment. But 25% of equally matched conflicts involving a critfail seems much too high.
04:00:27 syv: Requiring triple would give a critfail rate of 13.89%, which is similar to basic d6, just a bit lower. Which I naturally like.
04:02:04 syv: I should read the rest of the doc before I begin munchkinning buuuut
04:04:01 Devastator: Only the player can critfail.
04:04:15 syv: 1d6 < 1d12 has a rate of ~71%. 1d6 < 1d10 has a rate of 65%. Going up to d12 reduces failure rate by just over a sixth, while going up to d10 (from d6, success rate of ~42%) reduces failure rate by over a third.
04:04:35 Devastator: And don't expect opponents to have d12s.
04:05:03 syv: Well, I'm somewhat assuming that d6 skill is a proxy for an "average" challenge, but alright. That does halve the expected critfail rate in d6 vs d6.
04:07:17 Devastator: also I think your math is questionable.
04:07:37 Devastator: you roll a 1, that's critfails on 3-12, for 75%
04:08:12 Devastator: you roll a 2, that's a critfail on 5-12, for 75%. Gah, had the first one wrong.
04:08:27 Devastator: roll a 3, that's a critfail on 7-12, for 50%.
04:08:49 Devastator: 4, critfail on 9-1/3
04:09:38 Devastator: 6 is 0. 5 is 1/6, 4 is 1/3, 3 is 1/2, 2 is 2/3, and 1 is 5/6.
04:09:48 syv: I didn't do math. I plugged it into anydice.
04:09:51 Devastator: average is 2.5 out of 6.
04:11:00 Devastator: Yeah, no, ties are in your favor.
04:11:20 syv: No, >= because 2 is double 1.
04:11:28 Devastator: yeah, but 3 or better wins.
04:11:32 Devastator: did I say 2 somewhere?
04:13:46 Devastator: I've got some more ideas, but I want to see more armoury stuff first.
04:17:05 syv: Allowing players to manifest anything from the armory at-cost by spending one turn seems very strong, and disincentivises taking stuff at the start of the mission. Mostly only certain kinds of things, but I think it'd cause people to not tend to make big purchases before they're useful.
04:17:37 syv: In some cases it's actually much better. Say, manifesting a battle tank inside of a bunker, which you never could have driven into from outside.
04:21:01 Devastator: I have no issues with that.
04:21:11 Devastator: I will have ambushes and surprise attacks.
04:21:20 Devastator: but I really have no issues with you just making stuff when you need it.
04:24:19 syv: Yup, I was careful to say it's not worse. It's strong, but making players strong isn't necessarily bad. Just wanted to point it out.
04:24:53 Devastator: I've got some pretty gnarly missions, yes.
04:25:08 Devastator: your body is manifest wherever.
04:25:10 Devastator: that's how healing works.
04:53:18 syv: ...anime dark souls is 80% off

05:02:56 MJ: I think it went well actually
05:03:45 MJ: Or I failed. Hard to tell, but hey that’s what the actual grade is for
05:04:38 Devastator: it went well or you failed.
05:04:42 Devastator: That is covering all bases.
05:05:07 Devastator: Did your bag end up finding you,

05:08:56 MJ: I always feel like it would be fun to be a courier
05:11:52 MJ: But I will admit. I’m shit faced so like it will be hilarious.

05:24:05 syv: "I've had... uhm... well, I'm not gonna do the math to figure out how many beers I've had!"
05:24:20 syv: It says something when you need to do math to figure out how many beers you've had
05:48:37 Devastator: at least it isn't advanced math.
06:02:07 Devastator: getting the hang of jungle assaults.
06:03:03 Devastator: you want to spam bombard area fire with infantry like 100m or so away to pin individually targeted units to the point where they're described as 'retreating'. Then you can move someone in to shoot them in the face without getting counterfied to death.
06:03:12 Devastator: still that first unit spotting them is going to get mulched.
06:03:29 Devastator: doesn't seem to be a way around that unless you do the zone firing before the spotting unit advances.
06:09:39 Devastator: got an assault mission that's uphill all the way.
06:09:46 Devastator: but there's enough jungle so there's cover all the way.
06:13:28 Devastator: the minus side is my big tank force isn't much good, but I forsee needing them to lob HE shells over the head of the rifle line eventually.
