05:34:20 Radio_Controlled: Hey ya'll.
05:34:30 Radio_Controlled: How's it hanging?
05:34:30 Devastator: oh heya.
05:34:36 syv: Hello, you reticulated cartesian!
05:34:45 Devastator: hah.
05:35:18 Radio_Controlled: Reticulated cartesians sound like a pain. :v
05:35:24 syv: I must say, you are looking particularly mellifluent today.
05:35:26 ER: have you come to complain to our glorious god of death, wilfred?
05:35:29 Devastator: only for cartographers.
05:36:31 Radio_Controlled: Well, guess I learned a new word today. :p
05:36:40 Radio_Controlled: And no ER, not particularly.
05:37:23 syv: Why, then, might you be gracing our chathall?
05:38:19 Devastator: could watch something, maybe.
05:38:21 Devastator: lets see what we got..
05:38:25 Radio_Controlled: "on a whim" doesn't quite have the gravitas you might have been hoping for, but makes up for that in truthfulness.
05:38:43 syv: Does Radio watch things? o.O
05:39:03 ER: presumably
05:39:10 syv: I thought he was like MJ but fully evolved, and therefore fully distracted by mad science.
05:39:25 Devastator: I did watch Wolf Children with him, IIRC.
05:39:31 syv: oooo
05:39:43 syv: And lacking gravitas is fine, Radio
05:39:48 syv: Gravitas is thw *worst*
05:40:02 ER: it looks cool tho
05:40:10 Radio_Controlled: I do a lot of science these days. Not -that- mad though.
05:40:34 Radio_Controlled: I mean I would be up for something if it's not too long.
05:41:06 ER: oh hey dev, do you remember aoshima's old mad science game about making supersoldiers?
05:41:25 Devastator: Yes.
05:41:32 Devastator: Roll to Supersoldier.
05:41:34 Devastator: Very good that one.
05:41:42 Radio_Controlled: That one was neat.
05:42:03 Devastator: hmm.
05:42:06 ER: that's be a good un to try some time
05:42:18 Devastator: I thought about that, but then I read through it.
05:42:24 Devastator: Aoshi did a really, really good job.
05:42:29 Devastator: It's not easy.
05:43:26 syv: A part of me is tempted to run a competitive faction-based gun and army design game.
05:43:39 Devastator: hmm
05:43:45 Devastator: how much Steins do we have left?
05:43:48 Radio_Controlled: dew et
05:43:50 ER: 4 eps
05:43:54 syv: ^
05:44:03 Radio_Controlled: Original or the sequel?
05:44:12 syv: orig
05:44:16 Radio_Controlled: ah nice
05:44:25 ER: which I do not have on this comp, but I could probably flash drive quickly enough
05:44:25 syv: Is the sequel worse?
05:44:29 Devastator: There's a sequel now?
05:44:48 syv: There's been a season 2 since before we started.
05:44:57 Radio_Controlled: Sequel is not as good, no. Some neat ideas but they kinda squandered a lot of the cool potential.
05:45:18 Radio_Controlled: Steins;gate zero I think it's called?
05:45:23 syv: Yes.
05:45:30 syv: I think there's a few movies, too.
05:45:33 Radio_Controlled: Might be the season 2 you mentioned.
05:45:37 Devastator: oh man.
05:45:49 syv: Yes, it is.
05:45:59 Radio_Controlled: I think I saw one of those, was fun but kinda forgettable.
05:46:08 Devastator: mmm.
05:46:15 Devastator: well, you want to watch another ep or two of the first one?
05:46:17 Radio_Controlled: The orig is just a good, self-contained story.
05:46:21 Devastator: from the sound of it, you've seen it before, RC.
05:46:23 syv: What anime should we watch next, Radio?
05:46:27 Devastator: would you mind jumping in?
05:46:44 Radio_Controlled: Eh, sure why not. Would need to find where to get it though.
05:47:11 syv: Someone else will have to link the torrent >.>
05:47:16 Radio_Controlled: attack on titan is pretty good. Gets better over time.
05:47:17 Devastator: got it.
05:47:34 syv: Ohhh, god
05:47:35 syv: No.
05:47:40 syv: No more AoT
05:47:52 Radio_Controlled: Oh? You don't like it?
05:47:53 syv: I've had the entire thing spoiled anyways
05:47:53 Devastator: Yeah, we kinda started that.
05:48:02 Radio_Controlled: Aaaah.
05:48:02 syv: At this point I kinda hate it
05:48:14 syv: I'm also embedded into a community for a fangame of it
05:48:32 syv: And the serious fans of the actual anime are the worst part
05:48:34 Radio_Controlled: Could do jojo's bizarre adventure? But that one is loooong and weird.
05:48:46 syv: I have been curious about JoJo
05:48:51 Radio_Controlled: Fanboys are the worst, yes.
05:48:58 syv: I feel like I'd dislike it, but wouldn't be against trying.
05:49:50 Devastator: I've been too, but so many have talked about it I'm worried.
05:50:28 syv: I have a suspicion it's like TTS for some reason.
05:50:31 Radio_Controlled: First season is different from the others, much slower.
05:50:38 syv: Possibly the fact that TTS uses chars from it.
05:51:29 Radio_Controlled: hmm, seems like my work laptop doesn't like qbittorrent. :v
05:51:37 Radio_Controlled: Hold up, got another idea.
05:52:32 Radio_Controlled: Did you finish AoT, syv? I'm almost through the last season.
05:52:41 ER invokes the dark rituals of IRC file transfer
05:53:08 syv: I watched through the first season of it with these two, and possibly also MJ, I forget.
05:53:17 syv: We tried season 2, but lost interest early.
05:53:29 syv: I've had essentially the entire plot spoiled, though.
05:53:36 ER: we stalled because my VLC was fucked
05:53:58 Radio_Controlled: Ah, having the plot spoiled kinda sucks, yeah.
05:54:31 Radio_Controlled: Like I said, I personally think it gets better with time, I originally dropped mid season 1 cause I didn't think it was great but picked it back up again after a recommend.
05:54:52 syv: Ehhhh
05:54:56 syv: I dislike the plot, too.
05:55:46 syv: Have you seen any of the AoT fangame racing videos I've linked/recorded?
05:56:30 Radio_Controlled: Not sure?
05:57:07 Radio_Controlled: Ok, gonna stream it. Ep 21 was it?
05:57:55 Devastator: sure, ep 21.
05:58:31 syv: 21 up
05:58:32 ER: still futzing with flash drive and laptop cuz it's still probably easier than downloading qbittorrent
05:58:44 Radio_Controlled: Ok, ready. For me it starts with a close-up of okarin.
05:58:52 Radio_Controlled: Sure, just say when.
05:58:56 ER: btw the iteration of me trapped in the laptop says hi and please help
05:59:17 Radio_Controlled: While we wait, can you say what you disliked about the plot syv?
05:59:24 Radio_Controlled: Without spoiling the ending pls.
05:59:47 syv: It is deeply racist.
05:59:51 syv: It is very predictable.
06:00:03 syv: A lot of problems are resolved by deus ex machina.
06:00:12 syv: Characters are very stupid and make bad plans.
06:00:59 syv: I like a lot of elements of the design and concepts, but execution... is not how I would have done it.
06:01:38 Radio_Controlled: I'd agree on the 'chars are (/can be) stupid' angle, don't think I agree about the others.
06:01:49 syv: I think overall it would be a mediocre show for me, but it's actually kinda split between things I strongly dislike and things I really like, so the contrast between the two is very frustrating.
06:02:38 Radio_Controlled: Aah, yeah that can be annoying.
06:02:51 syv: Ackermans are canonically superhuman with magical powers, and that is directly tied to the "ackerman" name and bloodline. Their superpowers are also arbitrary "titan magic experiment stuff" tied to... their bloodline.
06:03:20 syv: Eldians are basically magic jews who turn into monsters. And the racism towards them is actually... *justified* by this.
06:03:40 syv: The primary plot driving character for the eldians is a genocidal asshole.
06:03:52 syv: The primary enemies are designed after nazis.
06:04:39 Radio_Controlled: Doesn't the show make it clear that the racism is what is making things worse, that the whole 'sins of the father' is a /bad? thing?
06:05:18 syv: To a degree, but an issue is that the writing strongly *supports* a racist point of view, and shows way too much sympathy for it.
06:05:46 Radio_Controlled: Isn't it kinda the X-men problem then?
06:06:13 syv: Eren's genocidal hatred, which also very much isn't "sins of the father" (god I hate the father twist here) is WAY too sympathetic. There are A LOT of people who feel he's fully justified and support him.
06:06:40 syv: And the pacifists of the story have been written to be useless/problematic themselves.
06:06:47 ER: have em now. and realize that I haven't actually installed VLC here either
06:06:52 syv: Like the Eldian king with his enforced pacifism vow.
06:07:28 Radio_Controlled: With the metaphor (x-men mutant oppression is a stand-in for racism) falling apart because the actual mutants are, in fact, dangerous so it's not like RL racism at all?
06:07:48 syv: Kind've? But it could've been written better.
06:08:09 syv: For one thing, they could have made titan magic not *racial*
06:08:30 syv: Just straight up, why do you have to choose to have your magic monsters be an ethnicity?
06:08:47 syv: They could have provided a better out
06:08:56 syv: Like, ugh, you don't want me to spoil the ending.
06:09:07 Radio_Controlled: I haven't finished the show so can't really defend or condemn it on some of these points till I see how it bears out.
06:09:10 syv: And it has good elements to it, I think it's basically an author saving throw.
06:10:43 Radio_Controlled: Isn't Eren's thing "the world made us suffer so much, now we will have our revenge and ensure our security" basically that, the cycle of violence that keeps going because people can't move past it?
06:11:33 syv: Yeah, and the show makes him sexy and has a ton of ambiuity about whether he's the bad guy and has a ton of sympathy for him.
06:11:59 syv: You don't see Breaking Bad fanboys going on about how Walter White is a poor little woobie who has a point.
06:12:31 Radio_Controlled: Like, I think the show made it clear that the continued oppression of a certain people has, in fact, made the world a much shittier place (even if it's understandable to a degree due to the monster-ness) so racism is the wrong answer.
06:12:32 syv: I see WAY too many kids roleplaying as Eren, or empathizing very strongly with his point of view, or defending it.
06:12:53 ER: don't we see walter white appologists?
06:13:05 ER: people are really good at misinterpreting things~
06:13:06 syv: I haven't. Maybe I'm wrong on that one.
06:13:45 Radio_Controlled: I mean, I guess some people don't know how to deal with these topics maturely, but I dunno if making the character more obviously evil makes the story better? Like, plenty of people call out how bad of a person he is in-show no?
06:13:56 syv: Though, here, Radio. Do you have an answer for how the problems in AoT can be resolved without genocide?
06:14:08 ER: this irc program isn't quite as good at sharing the screen as the last one
06:14:26 ER: can't entirely collapse the user list and server list
06:14:55 Radio_Controlled: I'm streaming/viewing it on my tablet ER, no need to stream it for me.
06:15:28 Devastator: It's so he can chat and watch.
06:15:36 Radio_Controlled: Aah.
06:16:26 ER: w/e, ready
06:16:29 ER: with 21
06:16:36 Devastator: Ready.
06:16:40 syv: Ready.
06:17:03 Radio_Controlled: I'm not sure what exactly the magical powers can or can't do in-universe syv, but it's basically asking "how do we stop violence and strife" which, I mean if the author could've answered that beyond "leet's put our differences and grudges aside and let's all be friends, mkay" he'd be getting his nobel peace price right about now. :v
06:17:15 Radio_Controlled: Ah, yeah ready!
06:17:30 syv: The trouble is that the world is setup to make reasonable resolution impossible.
06:17:34 Radio_Controlled: (sorry for the tangent)
06:17:53 Devastator: It's fine.
06:17:59 ER: to the extent that [spoilers] :p
06:18:12 syv: There's a bunch of elements of how titans are set up that just... if they exist, there will always be severe problems, and those problems will always--objectively--be the cause of the Eldian race.
06:18:25 syv: And how it's depicted has elements of nuclear war, from what I understand.
06:18:46 Radio_Controlled: We could finish the convo some day when I've finished the series, it's not fair to ask you to defend it without while also avoiding spoilers.
06:18:47 syv: "What if the only way to resolve the threat of nuclear war was to remove jews from the world?"
06:18:51 syv: But yeah.
06:18:53 syv: Sorry.
06:19:03 syv: Ready, yes.
06:19:05 Devastator: countdown.
06:19:12 syv: 5
06:19:13 syv: 4
06:19:15 syv: 3
06:19:17 syv: 2
06:19:18 syv: 1
06:19:20 syv: 0
06:19:40 Devastator: "That won't be necessary."
06:19:43 ER: coward!
06:19:53 Devastator: Pursue the goal!
06:19:57 Devastator: there can be naught else!
06:20:14 ER: destroy EVERYTHING to save the world!
06:20:23 ER: it is the mad scientist way!
06:20:38 Radio_Controlled: It really is though. >_<
06:21:23 ER: yeah I think that the additional space which this chat program wastes means that I'm watching in a smaller area despite having a bigger screen now
06:21:35 ER: with the two windows split
06:22:02 Radio_Controlled: Oh wow I tried skipping the intro and this stream crapped out lol.
06:22:13 Radio_Controlled: You guys keep going, I'll catch up.
06:22:33 ER: butt
06:22:59 Devastator: I'm amused at stating that like it's a natural law.
06:23:40 syv: It seems to be!
06:23:49 ER: stupid fate
06:23:50 Devastator: ..in season 2, does an Organization actually show up?
06:24:06 ER: terminator 2 was wrong about fate :p
06:24:15 syv: He's a scientist. He may be mad, but he's still a scientist, and experiments have determined Mayuri's death to be a natural law ;P
06:24:24 Devastator: heh.
06:24:40 Radio_Controlled: Clearly he needed a better control group.
06:24:51 Devastator: I, as a flip phone owner, really do enjoy the flip-phone centric nature of this show.
06:24:52 Devastator: Yes.
06:25:16 ER: just say it
06:25:20 ER: let her decide
06:25:29 Radio_Controlled: I think flip-phones were the big thing when the original game came out?
06:25:35 Devastator: Yeah.
06:25:55 Radio_Controlled: But yes, nothing beats that flip-action!
06:26:00 Devastator: but I had to explain to these mooks that texts and e-mails are different things. ;-p
06:26:05 Devastator: and that texts used to have subject lines!
06:26:08 Radio_Controlled: swish-flick
06:26:36 syv: I know texts and emails are different!
06:26:45 syv: I didn't know they used to have subjects.
06:27:23 Radio_Controlled: Get off his lawn! :p
06:27:30 Devastator: 'every blog on the interwebs', ahh.
06:27:37 Devastator: this is a pretty solid dub.
06:27:43 Devastator: ..he lives his cosplay.
06:28:06 Radio_Controlled: Waaaait, you people are watching the dub?
06:28:13 ER: death
06:28:36 Devastator: I am.
06:28:46 ER: just die
06:28:52 Radio_Controlled: Now I'm curious how it sounds in the dub. I kinda doubt 'maddo-scientisto' has the same flair as in the sub. :v
06:29:01 Devastator: It's a pretty high-quality dub.
06:29:09 Devastator: not a direct translation, but it's good.
06:29:19 syv: Subs have to be read, which makes it harder to follow while in IRC.
06:29:24 Radio_Controlled: The fact he blurts out English nonsense really fits the character.
06:29:32 syv: Ahhh
06:29:41 Devastator: that english nonsense or kakatana nonsense?
06:29:42 syv: Yeah, that's totally lost
06:30:16 Radio_Controlled: I mean I -guess- he could do it in Japanese...
06:30:24 Radio_Controlled: Make him a massive weeaboo in the dub.
06:30:31 Radio_Controlled: Yup, sounds like a plan.
06:30:49 Devastator: he uses very fanciful nonsense and uses random German.
06:30:57 Devastator: like twenty-dollar words.
06:30:59 Radio_Controlled: Oh lol.
06:31:03 Devastator: I can't say it's the same, but it's good stuff.
06:31:43 Radio_Controlled: Aaw, they're so precious together.
06:31:49 ER: <3
06:32:18 Devastator: mmm.
06:32:23 Devastator: price got too high.
06:32:51 Radio_Controlled: Man she always leaves such an aesthetic corpse.
06:33:12 Radio_Controlled: Like what are cars made off in this universe.
06:33:22 Devastator: animeum.
06:33:25 Radio_Controlled: Not a scratch on her!
06:33:31 Devastator: does precisely the desired amount of damage. ;-p
06:33:41 Radio_Controlled: And only internally!
06:33:56 syv: Blunt damage doesn't actually do all that much damage
06:34:12 ER: every bone in his body broken. tragic. but informative! or, so I'm told.
06:34:41 Radio_Controlled: You'd at least expect some bruises and bleeding if she's dead seconds later.
06:34:49 syv: More blood than that normally, but falls and collisions generally leave surprisingly intact bodies.
06:35:05 Devastator: Soul Damage.
06:35:11 Devastator: it's a Car of Fate.
06:35:24 Radio_Controlled: Nephew of truck-kun?
06:35:32 Devastator: ...
06:35:38 Devastator: we already had a Car of Fate.
06:35:41 Devastator: that wsa the last show.
06:35:48 Devastator: RE:Zero. ;-p
06:36:00 ER: when are they making more of that anyways
06:36:15 Radio_Controlled: Truck-kun is related to the whole isekai meme.
06:36:21 Devastator: I don't know! S2 was interrupted by pandemic. I think we saw the end of it pretty soon after it was available.
06:36:33 Radio_Controlled: ... wait, what if Mayuri gets isekai'd every time that car hits her?
06:36:52 Radio_Controlled: But then Okabe keeps pulling her back in.
06:36:59 ER: canon
06:37:06 Devastator: That'd be amusing.
06:37:20 Radio_Controlled: I would totally watch Mayuri isekai.
06:37:45 Radio_Controlled: ... it would be cooking mama, wouldn't it?
06:38:09 syv: Seems reasonable.
06:38:33 Radio_Controlled: Dammit now I'm hungry.
06:38:53 ER: the essense of science, here
06:40:11 ER: I prescribe more hugs
06:40:18 syv: Pure cinnamon roll is too pure for the world.
06:40:36 Radio_Controlled: True.
06:40:37 Devastator: Yeah.
06:41:02 Radio_Controlled: Ooh, dev, turns out they have some very good cinnamon buns here!
06:41:09 Radio_Controlled: Still gotta try one though.
06:41:20 Devastator: Yeah, there are some really good cinnamon rolls.
06:41:25 Devastator: did you get a Nanaimo bar yet?
06:41:36 Radio_Controlled: Ah no, not yet, should look for one.
06:41:45 syv: 22?
06:41:49 Devastator: Sure.
06:42:07 syv: BRB, clouds.
06:42:09 ER: ready
06:42:40 Radio_Controlled: I'm ready.
06:42:52 Radio_Controlled: Tell how the clouds are btw.
06:43:04 Radio_Controlled: How cloudy?
06:43:12 Devastator: I didn't think about that, but yes, there are really good cinnamon rolls.
06:43:36 Devastator: (or buns.)
06:43:39 syv: Ready
06:43:41 Radio_Controlled: Got some really nice donuts today.
06:43:43 syv: CLR
06:43:45 Devastator: ..and donuts.
06:43:49 Devastator: no clouds.
06:43:51 Devastator: okay, ready.
06:43:57 syv: 25008KT 10SM
06:44:02 syv: 5
06:44:04 Radio_Controlled: Hmm hmm, I see.
06:44:04 syv: 4
06:44:07 syv: 3
06:44:09 syv: 2
06:44:11 syv: 1
06:44:13 syv: 0
06:44:36 ER: wasn't looking
06:44:44 Radio_Controlled: Someone should tell Joe Rogan about a beta world line.
06:44:48 syv: Oh, sorry
06:44:53 Radio_Controlled: Get to watch him pop a vein.
06:44:54 syv: 00:00
06:45:08 syv: Ready again
06:45:10 Devastator: restarting
06:45:12 Devastator: ready.
06:45:14 ER: ready
06:45:40 Radio_Controlled: Stream just started buffering when you said that soooo timing? :v
06:45:47 Devastator: hah.
06:45:47 syv: Hehe
06:45:51 Devastator: well, we're restarting, so.. ;-p
06:45:51 syv: Just go back to the start
06:45:54 ER: that's the problem with streams
06:46:02 syv: Yes/
06:46:28 Radio_Controlled: -shrug-
06:46:30 ER: which is that they suck and exist so that we can't steal their precious juicy data
06:46:56 syv: Ready, Radio?
06:47:11 Radio_Controlled: Well it's that or getting out the non-work laptop so that qbittorrent actually works. :v
06:47:16 Devastator: heh
06:47:18 Radio_Controlled: Oh yeah please go ahead!
06:47:21 syv: 5
06:47:22 syv: 4
06:47:24 syv: 3
06:47:26 syv: 2
06:47:27 syv: 1
06:47:28 syv: 0
06:47:32 ER: yay
06:47:38 ER: beta!
06:47:45 Devastator: "Being Meltdown"
06:47:45 ER: "being meltdown"
06:47:52 Devastator: yeah, that does sound like a time-travel related issue.
06:48:18 syv: It sounds like Engrish.
06:48:18 Radio_Controlled: Hmm, did we ever see more worldlines than a and b?
06:48:28 ER: physically connect yourself between all time points and hit criticality
06:48:38 Devastator: well, the big number of sub worldlines.
06:49:29 ER: you willing to die, science girl?
06:50:16 syv: no
06:50:30 syv: ANIME
06:50:31 ER: anime
06:50:46 Devastator: The VN origins shine through sometimes.
06:51:21 syv: Did she call him dork elf?
06:51:49 Radio_Controlled: pfff
06:51:55 ER: where are they anyways
06:52:09 Devastator: I think it's the building that was hit by the time machine.
06:52:54 ER: yup, same building
06:53:07 Devastator: yeah, it isn't just him.
06:53:16 syv: Ehhh
06:53:22 syv: Either that, or he does it to others.
06:53:30 Devastator: Yeah, maybe that.
06:54:01 Radio_Controlled: Okabe does a ton of running in this show.
06:54:13 Radio_Controlled: He must have amazing calves.
06:54:24 Devastator: And not the cow kind.
06:54:34 Radio_Controlled: hah
06:54:42 ER: a surprising amount of running for a story which isn't a video game anyways
06:54:55 Devastator: I dunno.
06:55:07 Devastator: you don't get to be a mad scientist if you accept only one answer.
06:55:13 ER: A LIFE FOR A LIFE
06:55:20 Devastator: that's like ordinary scientist territory.
06:55:28 Radio_Controlled: That barely gets you into regular scientist territory.
06:55:38 Devastator: also, more rain.
06:55:43 Devastator: is it just a thing in Japan"?
06:55:47 Devastator: rain and death?
06:55:53 ER: gotta get back
06:55:57 ER: back to the past
06:55:58 Radio_Controlled: And taxes!
06:56:05 syv: I mean... rain always suits sad scenes?
06:56:16 Radio_Controlled: The new samurai Jack is a good watch as well.
06:56:22 Devastator: ...
06:56:27 Devastator: maybe we should watch old samurai jack.
06:56:35 Radio_Controlled: Well, the first half of the season, then it drops off a bit.
06:56:48 Radio_Controlled: Yeah, old SJ is really good too.
06:57:32 ER: time travel nhilism!
06:58:28 syv: This is a really weird form of suicide
06:58:45 Devastator: self-sacrifice, but yes.
06:59:15 syv: She said "best for me too"
06:59:26 syv: Or something with the same meaning.
06:59:31 ER: yes
07:01:10 ER: now for the weird VN philosopical part
07:01:10 syv: Oh hey, Radio_Controlled, MJ says hi
07:01:27 Radio_Controlled: Oh nice!
07:01:34 ER: and this part of the VN
07:01:53 Radio_Controlled: Guess he's enjoying uni life still in all its booze-and-overworked glory?
07:02:08 Radio_Controlled: Next time he's around tell him I said hi back.
07:02:12 syv: I think?
07:02:17 Devastator: MJ is like a sparrow, RC.
07:02:23 Devastator: he shows up for five minutes and then vanishes.
07:02:25 syv: Tomato's route
07:03:21 ER: silly anime people
07:04:00 syv: These science buzz words really tickle my science romance fetish
07:04:15 ER: do they? :p
07:04:19 syv: No.
07:04:24 ER: yeet
07:04:39 Devastator: yeet.
07:04:53 ER: calculated
07:04:56 Devastator: yes.
07:05:31 ER: also, throwing soda is uncomfortable
07:05:48 syv: I was expecting him to open it and get sprayed
07:06:04 Devastator: Show got more serious.
07:06:08 Devastator: and we already had the wet shirt gag.
07:06:12 syv: And so, levity
07:07:05 ER: disguising it as the usual; larping
07:07:25 ER: uh oh\
07:07:34 Radio_Controlled: Ooh, Planetes is a good one as well.
07:07:51 syv: Dubs recommends that too, I think
07:08:11 Radio_Controlled: It's anime... in spaaaace.
07:08:41 syv: And now... Mayuri takes one more day to die
07:08:55 ER: lol
07:08:56 Devastator: Oh, that would suck.
07:08:58 Radio_Controlled: I like how they are so used to his bullshit they don't question it.
07:09:01 Devastator: although they do have a thing that measures it.
07:09:06 Devastator: broke 1%
07:09:09 Devastator: and yes.
07:09:11 syv: Well, had.
07:09:33 Devastator: Two more episodes says it isn't that simple.
07:09:39 syv: Yes.
07:09:52 Radio_Controlled: Dun dun duuuuun.
07:09:58 ER: but this is the semi-end
07:10:02 Devastator: The music is pretty good.
07:10:06 syv: Mayuri dying would be the natural way to continue it
07:10:07 syv: Yes.
07:10:19 syv: Oooo
07:10:19 Devastator: yeah.
07:10:21 Devastator: not over
07:10:23 syv: Credits gag
07:10:32 ER: inb4 the difference between alpha and beta is that in beta she rules the world with an iron fist, and in alpha *he* does
07:10:36 Radio_Controlled: And now I'm the one who has to hold back spoilers. :v
07:10:56 syv: Time travel girl
07:11:03 Devastator: Part-Time warrior!
07:11:10 ER: bam
07:11:20 Devastator: 'lets never fuck with time again'
07:11:21 syv: Damn, he's gonna assassinate Putin
07:11:26 Devastator: 'you need to prevent WW III'
07:11:29 Devastator: yeah, sadly.
07:11:36 Devastator: nah, wouldn't need Putin. There'd be a better target.
07:11:44 syv: 23?
07:12:03 ER: time to bust out the latest future gadget, this sniper rifle
07:12:07 Radio_Controlled: One sec, gotta plug this thing in.
07:12:22 syv: "What does it do?"
07:12:32 Radio_Controlled: Polonium sounds like a science lab gadget. :v
07:12:42 ER: it goes bang, but whimsically
07:13:41 ER: reddy
07:13:41 Devastator: It'd be Anatoly Chubays, around 1999.
07:13:49 Devastator: if you had a magic time machine.
07:14:18 syv: "When I pull this piece of metal, a catch releases a hammer which drives a pin into a small explosive charge, igniting a container full of granular explosive. The expanding gasses propel a metal weight forwards, ultimately towards a victim's head, causing severe brain trauma when properly used."
07:14:21 Radio_Controlled: Isn't the consensus to go back in time and buy Hitler's paintings?
07:14:42 syv: Nah.
07:14:49 Devastator: WW III, not WW II. ;-p
07:15:00 syv: Hitler needs to start WWII, else it'll happen later, after nuclear weapons have been developed.
07:15:01 Devastator: ready
07:15:12 syv: Ready
07:15:36 Devastator: 'deflagrating explosive'
07:15:47 Radio_Controlled: No I mean you get to sell some very unique artwork in your original timeline.
07:16:17 syv: Radio? Ready?
07:16:24 Radio_Controlled: Sure.
07:16:30 syv: Alright
07:16:31 syv: 5
07:16:33 syv: 4
07:16:34 syv: 3
07:16:36 syv: 2
07:16:37 syv: 1
07:16:39 syv: 0
07:16:52 Radio_Controlled: The stream being what it is, 'ready' is a vague concept anyway. :v
07:16:58 Devastator: fair enough.
07:17:16 Devastator: Yeah.
07:17:20 ER: have a good youtube essay to link but I'll link it when we're done so it's not lost~
07:17:20 Devastator: Whiplash.
07:18:07 Devastator: Okay.
07:18:18 syv: Maybe time travel being invented inevitably causes disaster in the future.
07:18:31 ER: namedrop!
07:18:39 Radio_Controlled: How convenient!
07:18:44 Devastator: Well, normal time travel plot.
07:18:48 Devastator: find the golden timeline. ;-p
07:18:48 ER: new intro song!
07:18:51 Devastator: after all this..
07:19:06 Radio_Controlled: Time travel being invented causes disaster -whenever-. :v
07:19:30 Devastator: the solution to saving Kurisu is locked behind Kurisu's death.
07:20:35 Devastator: I do like how she just plows right through the akwardness.
07:21:49 ER: abandon it!
07:22:11 Devastator: material time travel.
07:22:15 ER: the masterpiece!
07:22:42 ER: time to get yote through a black hole
07:22:53 Devastator: any resemblance to other time machine sounds is entirely coincidental. ;-p
07:23:25 ER: why does the time machine have RCS on it?
07:23:36 Devastator: it's a future gadget!
07:23:42 syv: In case it comes in too high
07:23:56 ER: doesn't seem like that'd help too much?
07:24:37 ER: shook
07:25:32 Radio_Controlled: Snort the time fragments Okarin.
07:25:42 ER: snort em!
07:25:47 Devastator: that's for the other kind of time wizard.
07:26:10 ER: I blame john titor fucking around in 2000 for all this :p
07:27:09 Radio_Controlled: "Metalo Upa!" still sounds adorable.
07:27:11 ER: :(
07:28:16 Devastator: glorious narcissism.
07:28:26 Radio_Controlled: In the sub he screams "Doooocteeeeeer" and it's amazing.
07:28:45 ER: couldn't have given okarin a gun?
07:28:54 Devastator: would you give Okarin a gun?
07:29:01 Devastator: like, ever?
07:29:02 ER: yes
07:29:06 syv: yes
07:29:06 Devastator: okay, fair point.
07:29:26 ER: nice
07:29:34 Radio_Controlled: He seems more of the ray-gun type.
07:29:37 Devastator: and right back at you!
07:29:52 syv: One knife wound would be deeply unlikely to be lethal.
07:30:04 Devastator: FATE
07:30:09 Radio_Controlled: Maaan, Kurisu's dad is such a shithead.
07:30:16 syv: yes
07:30:17 Devastator: narcissitic shithead!
07:30:33 ER: heard that
07:30:41 Radio_Controlled: Kick his ass Okabe!
07:30:53 ER: now, you know how what already happened did
07:31:01 ER: can you find a way to change it?
07:31:14 Radio_Controlled: Middle aged scientist knife skills, yeah.
07:31:47 syv: DEFECTS TO RUSSIA
07:32:02 Radio_Controlled: And then, nerd knife skills.
07:32:15 ER: sabotage
07:32:30 Radio_Controlled: Go for a swift kick in the nuts next time, Okarin.
07:33:14 Radio_Controlled: "They're back already".
07:33:14 Devastator: the music really sounds like PM3 just now.
07:33:17 Devastator: ooh!
07:33:30 Radio_Controlled: Yes, Mayuri, that's... that's how time travel works.
07:35:01 Radio_Controlled: Oh man yeah I'm way behind you guys. :v
07:36:48 ER: oh damn
07:37:10 syv: "OF COURSE"
07:37:17 Devastator: "SCIENCE!"
07:38:55 ER: AMIST THE COUNTLESS PARALELL LINES I CHOOSE BLASPHEMY!
07:39:46 Devastator: This is a good show.
07:39:50 syv: Yeah.
07:40:01 Devastator: good characters.
07:40:04 Radio_Controlled: Yeah it's fun.
07:40:34 syv: I have to use the bathroom. Be right back.
07:40:47 ER: more!
07:40:52 Devastator: yeah, only one more ep.
07:40:55 Devastator: can't really stop now.
07:41:06 ER: I AM NOT SATED, FEED MORE MORE DEATH!\
07:41:32 Radio_Controlled: If you want 'more death' then devilman crybaby is another good show.
07:41:41 Radio_Controlled: Kind dark tho. :v
07:41:54 Devastator: devilman crybaby?
07:42:23 Radio_Controlled: Yes, it's an anime.
07:42:33 Devastator: well yes.
07:42:50 ER: a good balance between bleakness and stupid bullshit is needed
07:43:56 Devastator: and insanity.
07:44:05 Devastator: also the dub actor has a really good laugh.
07:44:28 ER: is it more genuine than the japanese version?
07:44:28 Radio_Controlled: Hmm, bleakness and stupid bullshit.
07:45:01 Radio_Controlled: Code geass maybe. Has some of both.
07:45:08 Devastator: It's hard to say.
07:45:11 Devastator: you could compare them.
07:45:19 Radio_Controlled: And giant brobots.
07:45:38 Devastator: but yeah, I would say english VA has a better laugh.
07:45:43 ER: for example TTS is good because it aknowledges how dumb that setting is :p
07:46:08 Radio_Controlled: Heh, yeah. But that one has the advantage of being a parody.
07:46:19 Radio_Controlled: ... dragonball abridged still exists. :v
07:46:28 ER: it's a parody of something which was originally itself a parody
07:46:37 ER: but unfortunately forgot
07:46:46 Radio_Controlled: True. Though the parody aspects got toned down over time.
07:46:59 Devastator: DBA is ovah!
07:47:14 Radio_Controlled: Like, I don't see that space marine ballet game being made these days fr example.
07:47:38 Radio_Controlled: DBZA is done, yes. But the old eps still stand!
07:47:46 Devastator: true, true.
07:48:13 Radio_Controlled: And they still make some new stuff sometime, their original animations. Some ok gags in there.
07:48:27 ER: the best part about the dancing rules for space hulk is that I kinda read over them and they seem overcomplicated :p
07:50:03 Radio_Controlled: https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:Aresius_King/Dance_Steps_for_GW%27s_Space_Hulk_(1994)?file=Dancing_Marines_Jim_Holloway_1994_illustration.jpg
07:50:12 Radio_Controlled: But look at that glorious artwork.
07:51:13 syv: Back.
07:51:21 Devastator: indeed.
07:51:47 syv: There's an episode 25.
07:51:53 syv: An OVA.
07:51:58 Devastator: OVA doesn't count.
07:52:13 syv: We'll see.
07:52:16 syv: Ready.
07:52:24 Devastator: Ready.
07:52:28 Devastator: and thanks for coming by, RC.
07:52:41 ER: ready
07:52:51 syv: Radio_Controlled?
07:53:20 Radio_Controlled: Yep.
07:53:36 syv: 5
07:53:38 syv: 4
07:53:39 syv: 3
07:53:41 syv: 2
07:53:42 syv: 1
07:53:44 syv: 0
07:53:50 ER: hurrah!
07:54:05 ER: final boss time
07:54:09 Radio_Controlled: Are the operation names the same in the dub?
07:54:19 Devastator: No idea.
07:54:20 syv: Operation skull for dub
07:54:22 Radio_Controlled: operation skuld?
07:54:27 Devastator: they're random norse mythos names.
07:54:36 Devastator: `1
07:55:02 Radio_Controlled: "my world is shit anyway, I'm gonna stay with you guys"
07:55:13 syv: Reasonable.
07:55:20 Devastator: I mean.. yeah, maybe.
07:55:31 syv: Oh, it is Skuld
07:55:35 ER: yes
07:55:36 syv: Skald?
07:55:40 ER: skuld
07:55:50 Devastator: Skol ;-p
07:56:02 syv: Definitely a d
07:56:03 Radio_Controlled: Gesundheid.
07:56:05 syv: scold
07:56:10 ER: now with this show's pacing, how is this last mission just one episode?
07:56:17 syv: OVA
07:56:34 Devastator: hey syv.
07:56:35 ER: well that'll suck cuz I don't have it ;p
07:56:37 Devastator: syv.
07:56:40 syv: ?
07:56:45 Devastator: does the image work in the last update of Extinction?
07:56:47 Radio_Controlled: I don't think you need the ova?
07:56:53 syv: The 24 hours one?
07:56:55 syv: Yes?
07:56:55 Devastator: GameServ: q
07:56:57 Devastator: kk.
07:57:01 Radio_Controlled: Like I remember the show finishing now?
07:57:11 Devastator: Looks like Zultan can't see it.
07:57:25 syv: ...It might be in a cache for me.
07:57:35 syv: I'll check on PCvafter the show
07:57:38 Devastator: ok.
07:58:48 Devastator: also, what's with these keyboards!
07:59:04 Devastator: I swear that's a real layout, but I can't remember what that one is called.
07:59:11 Devastator: and there was a Model M earlier in the show.
07:59:22 Radio_Controlled: dvorak? :v
07:59:37 Devastator: no, no, dvorak is different keycaps, not a full layout.
07:59:43 Radio_Controlled: (I don't know keyboards)
07:59:44 Devastator: keymap, sorry.
07:59:48 Devastator: yeah, it's fine.
08:00:53 ER: time sparkles
08:01:00 Devastator: magic sparkles.
08:01:22 syv: I like how the pistol is nice and loud.
08:01:30 Radio_Controlled: Whether or not he saves Kurisu, he should still go kick her dad on principle.
08:01:38 Devastator: Oh yes.
08:01:55 Radio_Controlled: "You know what you did!" "What?!?"
08:02:33 Devastator: heh.
08:02:39 Devastator: animator doing work with that look right there.
08:04:11 ER: uh oh
08:04:17 Devastator: doah.
08:04:24 ER: his blood
08:04:29 Radio_Controlled: Plastico uppah was the key all along!
08:04:59 Devastator: (yes he does the doctor in english.)
08:05:37 Devastator: red must be having the weirdest day in history.
08:06:07 Radio_Controlled: "Homeless people in Japan sure are loud."
08:06:48 Devastator: 'ow'
08:06:55 syv: Belly hit.
08:07:00 syv: Don't--
08:07:02 syv: Sigh.
08:07:07 Devastator: we're past sanity, syv.
08:07:12 ER: he need to use the knife!
08:07:13 Devastator: this is well into the realm of madness.
08:08:02 Radio_Controlled: "You won't get away with this!" lol
08:08:09 Devastator: yeah.
08:08:17 Devastator: I'd love to hear 'this' defined.
08:08:17 syv: Nope.
08:08:24 Radio_Controlled: Bleeding all over the good doctor. Such nerve.
08:08:49 Radio_Controlled: Also wow that tazer works fast.
08:08:50 ER: exactly how stun guns work
08:08:54 syv: Owl
08:08:58 syv: *ow.
08:09:04 Devastator: Anime taser.
08:09:04 Radio_Controlled: oof
08:09:17 Radio_Controlled: Just jamming his hand in there.
08:09:27 Devastator: "Yay! The woman I love is passed out in a huge pool of my own blood. Victory!"
08:09:27 ER: just a touch of self diembowelment
08:09:50 Radio_Controlled: He tried to grab the snickers bar he had just before. He can have it again!
08:10:33 Devastator: Realm of madness, part-time warrior.
08:10:46 Devastator: Your sanity has no home here.
08:11:34 ER: disappears in a puff of logic
08:11:46 ER: victory!
08:11:48 Devastator: illogic and time sparkles.
08:11:50 Devastator: but yes.
08:11:52 Devastator: Yatta!
08:13:14 ER: new part timer acquired
08:13:16 syv: I wonder if Braun is still a manipulative monster.
08:13:35 Devastator: ..I don't see why not?
08:13:40 Radio_Controlled: Happy ending for everyone! Even the bad guys!
08:13:59 ER: the bad guys are just bad due to context
08:14:33 Radio_Controlled: Wasn't Braun just trying to protect his daughter?
08:14:38 Radio_Controlled: (IIRC)
08:14:39 syv: Maybe he's no longer evil because the future dystopia doesn't happen and so the rounders don't exist.
08:14:47 Devastator: It was weirder than that, IIRC.
08:16:11 syv: Awwwww!
08:16:45 Devastator: ..wait, what?
08:16:48 Devastator: how do I know that?
08:17:03 Radio_Controlled: So sweet.
08:17:11 syv: Yes. ^v^
08:17:18 Devastator: yes.
08:17:27 Radio_Controlled: She must be -very- confused though.
08:17:30 syv: That was a nice anime
08:17:33 Devastator: Indeed.
08:17:38 Devastator: Yeah.
08:17:41 Devastator: good watch.
08:17:45 syv: Second best anime about a time looper trying to save the girl they love.
08:17:56 Devastator: PM3 was glorious.
08:17:56 ER: VICTORY ACHIEVED
08:18:01 Devastator: but yeah.
08:18:05 Radio_Controlled: Wait what's the fir- aaah.
08:18:12 Devastator: ER, can you tell me if the image works on the last Extinction update?
08:18:19 ER: ok!
08:18:35 Devastator: Yeah. PM3 was much tighter.
08:18:36 syv: Works on my PC
08:18:38 Devastator: and a bit more visceral.
08:18:42 ER: the final day image?
08:18:45 Devastator: ok, might just be Zultan's problem.
08:18:47 Devastator: Yup.
08:18:49 Devastator: it's working then.
08:18:51 ER: works
08:18:55 syv: ...Oh. i think Zultan's just calling the image a black box.
08:18:58 Radio_Controlled: And not based on a dating game for nerds. :v
08:19:07 syv: It wouldn't load a black box and not the text.
08:19:08 Devastator: ...yeah.
08:19:14 Devastator: Maybe Zultan doesn't recognize it.
08:19:16 Devastator: gah.
08:19:17 ER: and here's a video so that you can think about time loops in stories some more~ https://youtu.be/dZrEayPIrVE
08:19:19 syv: I want to read the VN more now.
08:19:31 Devastator: ..I can't see it being better than the show.
08:19:33 Devastator: but maybe.
08:19:38 ER: might be fun
08:19:44 syv: I think it probably is, to be honest.
08:19:55 syv: The movie adaption is generally worse.
08:19:59 Devastator: hmm.
08:20:03 syv: ...It's also considered the best VN ever.
08:20:14 Devastator: ..Yeah, Zultan just doesn't know Majora's Mask.
08:20:24 Devastator: Bloody kids.
08:20:33 Devastator: also, huh.
08:20:35 Devastator: might be then.
08:20:39 syv: I think it's probably one of those works where it was designed for its format, and used it well.
08:21:02 syv: This show didn't use the anime format as well as many anime. But everything shown would work well in a VN.
08:21:14 Devastator: Mmm.
08:21:25 Devastator: and PM3 used its anime format very impressively.
08:21:29 syv: Yes.
08:21:37 syv: PM3 would not work as well in any other format.
08:21:52 Radio_Controlled: No? Manga should work.
08:21:59 syv: No.
08:22:03 Devastator: ...No.
08:22:03 Radio_Controlled: Less visually impressive I suppose.
08:22:09 ER: yes but what if it were a forum roleplaying game
08:22:09 Devastator: Audio
08:22:13 syv: ^
08:22:17 Radio_Controlled: Why not?
08:22:25 Devastator: Sound is very well used.
08:22:34 Radio_Controlled: Eeeh, audio adds to it but is it unmissable?
08:22:41 ER: yes :p
08:22:53 syv: the "adds to it" is our point.
08:22:58 Devastator: There's a few scenes where it'd be very difficult.
08:23:10 syv: PM3 is a good story; it would be a good story as a book, or a comic, or a live action movie.
08:23:17 Radio_Controlled: Lots of amazing movies and shows also worked as a paper medium. Maybe it's hard to think of it without it there.
08:23:20 syv: But the best format for the story, is as an anime,
08:23:27 Devastator: PM 3 Ep 10 may be the best single anime episode ever.
08:24:53 Devastator: I think you could do it.. well, like 95% of it in a Mnaga.
08:25:01 Devastator: but the anime format only adds to it.
08:25:15 Devastator: ..also the timing.
08:25:19 Devastator: the timing is just so good.
08:25:23 Devastator: timing and pacing.
08:25:36 Radio_Controlled: If it were a book for example then things like the character's inner thoughts/perspectives would be easier to show. That could give a new angle that an anime isn't as good for.
08:25:45 Devastator: That's true.
08:25:51 Radio_Controlled: Dunno if it would be -better-, but defo different.
08:25:54 Devastator: but I mean, I've got it open right now, and..
08:26:04 ER: prose can knife fight movies for best medium sometimes, yes
08:26:09 Devastator: it's gaining so much from the pacing and format in the space of a couple minutes.
08:26:46 syv: The trouble is that different formats have different strenths, and to really make use of them you have to change things.
08:26:49 Radio_Controlled: I guess it would just have different accents, so depending on what you like more it might work better or worse.
08:27:05 syv: PM3 has flaws. It doesn't develop characters as well, for instance; a novel form would have fuller characters.
08:27:35 Devastator: Yeah, that's true.
08:27:40 syv: But it isn't substantially harmed by that flaw, and has a lot of strengths aside from it, which are extremely well suited to its format.
08:27:44 Devastator: but it's difficult to say that the extra time would make it better.
08:28:04 Devastator: mmm.
08:28:08 Devastator: plus some of the animated familiars..
08:28:24 Devastator: them and the fight scens really couldn't be done in a fixed format.
08:28:24 syv: If you changed it to fit in another format, you could prolly rewrite a bunch to use all the strengths as effectively... but I think you'd have to change it so substantially that it's a distinctly different beast.
08:28:45 syv: Hrm
08:28:56 Radio_Controlled: I guess if you think that changing things so much to accomodate the medium's strengths makes it into a related, but different, work then it's true, but then you can hardly say that the original format is the best suited, right?
08:29:08 Devastator: That's a fair point.
08:29:13 syv: I suppose.
08:29:24 syv: Adaptions generally don't do that, is the issue.
08:29:34 syv: I don't think Steins;Gate did it.
08:29:48 Devastator: Mmm, no, just going through that episode.
08:29:48 syv: And even when they try, it's another dice roll for whether they do it well enough.
08:29:53 Devastator: it just keeps doing everything right.
08:29:54 Radio_Controlled: Like, maybe a novel of PMM3 would have such amazing characterization that people would have said "you couldn't do this as an anime, so a novel was the best format".
08:30:02 Devastator: Yeah, that's a fair point.
08:30:10 ER: this anime *probably* would have been better if they'd just cut out a bunch of stuff for snappier pacing
08:30:12 Devastator: except, in this case, isn't there a manga?
08:30:24 syv: Yes, but the manga decided to make one issue per episode.
08:30:28 ER: which, maybe, they already did a lot of that, but I don't think it was enough if they did
08:30:31 Radio_Controlled: I -think- it was an anime first?
08:30:34 syv: They did a bad job. Just period.
08:30:38 syv: It was 100% an anime first.
08:31:02 Radio_Controlled: So I guess, is there a core of PMM3 that we could extract that would work across all media?
08:31:13 Devastator: Oh, absolutely.
08:31:16 syv: I mean, of course.
08:31:23 Devastator: I mean syv made a forum game that's recognizably PM3.
08:31:28 Radio_Controlled: Or is a part of said core so inextricably linked to 1 medium that it can't be done?
08:31:34 Devastator: maybe not -all- media, but there's something.
08:32:33 ER: what does the perfect adaption of PM3 as a AAA videogame look like? :p
08:32:42 syv: Gacha game.
08:32:46 syv: Hrm. Trying to think of a way to explain it more clearly.
08:33:03 ER: that's missing a couple of the qualifiers I put there
08:34:03 Radio_Controlled: I once read a metal gear solid comic adaptation that showcased part of this issue very well imo.
08:34:48 Devastator: I think I get it.
08:34:57 Radio_Controlled: the first issues tried to stick waaaay too close to the videogame and didn't work as well, but once they realized "oh hey this is a comic book I don't have to follow the game's events beat per fucking beat" they didn some really cool stuff.
08:35:05 Devastator: it's comparing a hypothetical native version of a work that happened to be created for a different format.
08:35:23 Radio_Controlled: Like added scenes that made a lot of sense to the story that weren't in the game and wouldn't work as a game scene.
08:35:29 Devastator: to the actual native version of a work that was created on a specific format.
08:35:30 Devastator: and yeah.
08:36:07 Devastator: you're absolutely right that the work should change in an adaptation.
08:36:24 Radio_Controlled: So something like psycho mantis's fucking with the game data and having to change controller input cannot be translated directly into any other medium easily.
08:36:36 syv: Any story told, is told in a specific format. That format will have strengths and weaknesses. A masterfully made story will suit its format's strengths, and avoid its weaknesses. Some stories are natively worse in some formats, but most *could* be made masterfully in any format. However, to do that, it has to be made with its format in mind, allowing it to be shaped by its format.
08:37:18 Radio_Controlled: But the general idea of "he's a psychic asshole" is still there, and can be shown in other unique ways, even if it loses something of the panache of the original scene.
08:37:20 Devastator: oh my god.
08:37:21 Devastator: oh my god.
08:37:23 syv: Most adaptions do not do this. Things like changing entire plot arcs, adding or removing characters, those are seen as bad (and generally are), but they would be necessary for a proper adaption in my opinion.
08:37:27 Devastator: This is the subs vs dubs argument.
08:37:55 Devastator: it's a matter of translation!
08:38:04 syv: Yeah.
08:38:07 Radio_Controlled: Translation is hard yo.
08:38:10 Devastator: adaptations can be considered translations.
08:38:45 syv: The *utility* of what I'm saying isn't so much based around stating an arbitrary concept of a given story being best in one format, but in a practically existing story being *well made*.
08:39:26 Radio_Controlled: It sure is!
08:39:32 syv: A story well made for its format is well made. Copies translated to other formats will likely degrade... or be popularly derided for being different.
08:39:48 Devastator: ..although that isn't a universal rule.
08:39:56 Devastator: there are rarely adaptations that clearly improve the work.
08:40:00 syv: Yes.
08:40:02 ER is sleepy
08:40:14 syv idly pets ER
08:40:24 syv: Sorry for the semantics, friend
08:40:33 Radio_Controlled: They do exist though. The shining comes to mind.
08:40:40 Radio_Controlled: We bored ER to sleep!
08:40:45 Radio_Controlled: Achievement unlocked!
08:40:50 syv: It is late for him.
08:40:51 Devastator: nah, it's ER's bedtime.
08:40:52 syv: Poor egg.
08:41:00 Devastator: I'm a degenerate night person.
08:41:04 syv: Same.
08:41:37 syv: ...Or, well, I'm the very rare example of a true morning person.
08:41:37 Devastator: also god, I'm biased, but it's impressive how much work PM3 gets out of the format.
08:41:48 syv: 2200-1400, about.
08:42:16 Radio_Controlled: ... I don't think that's how morning people work. >.<
08:42:28 Devastator: not mornings only?
08:42:30 syv: Technically I am always active, aware, and productive during the "morning"
08:42:33 ER: he uses the whole moring
08:42:42 Devastator: all hours before noon.
08:42:44 ER: that's 20% more morning, per morning
08:42:57 syv: I am a morning person as night people are night persons.
08:43:07 Radio_Controlled: Like the indians of old, syv uses the whole morning and not wasting anything.
08:43:16 syv: Indeed~
08:43:49 syv: I am crepuscular.
08:44:09 Radio_Controlled: Now I'm imagining a version of Batman that goes "I am the morning" and gives pancakes to citizens.
08:44:40 Radio_Controlled: Crepe-uscular.
08:44:45 Devastator: heh
08:44:52 ER: wondering if there are any other animes in the world, which are good, and also similar to the two I gradually watched with sy
08:44:56 Devastator: Would he still be called Batman?
08:45:34 Radio_Controlled: Retired Marine-man.
08:45:42 ER: with the characteristics in mind there being I guess being set in a vaguely realistic modern world and featuring large amounts of gun violence
08:46:13 Radio_Controlled: mech-guns or regular guns?
08:46:30 ER: shrug
08:46:44 ER: I guess metal gear or ace combat like shenanigans are acceptable
08:46:47 Devastator: Did you end up watching Mellowlink, ER?
08:46:47 syv: GFL released an anime. I hear it's terrible.
08:46:57 ER: obviously it would be
08:47:19 syv: There's the schoolgirl airsoft anime, which I will never stop asking to watch.
08:47:52 Radio_Controlled: There is that warhammer animated show I guess.
08:48:07 Radio_Controlled: Only 1 ep so far though. Haven't seen it yet but heard it's good.
08:48:15 Radio_Controlled: warhamster tends to have guns.
08:48:31 ER: bah
08:48:36 Devastator: Warhams 30k.
08:48:40 ER: to both, I guess :p
08:49:08 syv: Astartes is phenomenal
08:49:22 ER: neither highschoolers nor airsoft guns qualify as high drama sy!
08:49:24 syv: In a similar way to the schoolgirl airsoft anime.
08:49:40 Radio_Controlled: It is, I rewatch it from time to time.
08:49:44 syv: It has lovingly rendered realist weapons and tactics.
08:49:48 Radio_Controlled: God the quality there.
08:50:00 Radio_Controlled: But the warhammer show I mentioned is not that.
08:50:10 syv: Is it dead, Radio?
08:50:27 Radio_Controlled: astartes is fan-made, the guy who made it got picked up by GW for a show.
08:50:37 Radio_Controlled: That show now has an episode.
08:50:44 syv: ...Oh.
08:51:04 syv: Well I was going to say that if it wasn't dead, it's not good, because GW kills everything that is good and fanmade.
08:51:05 Radio_Controlled: The trailer looked cool at least, but haven't tracked down the full ep yet.
08:51:15 syv: This is outside of my knowledge base, though.
08:51:23 ER: fuck gw tho
08:51:24 syv: I don't think GW is supposed to make good things?
08:51:56 Radio_Controlled: Again, the buzz around the 1st ep was positive, but haven't seen it so no guarantees. But the trailer had spaceships go pew pew so that was neat.
08:52:25 syv: I will remain tentatively optimistic.
08:52:42 Devastator: heh.
08:53:09 Radio_Controlled: You know what else is neat?
08:53:30 Radio_Controlled: Me, going the fuck to bed cause I have work to do tomorrow. -_-
08:53:47 Radio_Controlled: Was fun hanging out ya'll, have a good one!
08:53:54 Devastator: ok
08:53:57 Devastator: see ya.
