02:29:53 Devastator: needed more health and more big swords. Should have made a few spares of my big sword.
02:30:09 Devastator: and should have used some of my healing items.
02:51:19 ER: mmm, big sord

03:28:48 ER: Piecewise coe when
03:29:52 Piecewise: setting up the player facing rules now
03:29:53 Piecewise: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ury6HMGXEcekID2ahEuCbORERiZRI1vZZmBPlaiG3Os/edit?usp=sharing
03:33:18 Devastator: Hey Piecewise.
03:34:15 Piecewise: Hello
03:34:17 Devastator: Just trying to give the others a shot at closing the door by leading some of the gimps away. If you atomize them, they just walk back from over there, right?
03:34:28 Piecewise: ye
03:34:45 Devastator: well, maybe that won't work if the door's shut, or maybe we have cells or something.
03:35:42 ER: give access
03:36:25 Piecewise: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ury6HMGXEcekID2ahEuCbORERiZRI1vZZmBPlaiG3Os/edit?usp=sharing
03:36:29 Piecewise: Try again
03:40:02 Devastator: Ooh.
03:40:04 Devastator: No whistles? ;-p
03:41:52 Devastator: Ahh, a solution to monowire.
03:46:27 Devastator: Looks pretty good.
03:57:41 ER: the fluffy bit on the end of my microphone has gone missing
03:57:57 Devastator: mmm, bacon.
03:58:27 Piecewise: I'll add a whistle
04:02:14 ER: toot too
04:16:20 ER: huh
04:16:22 ER: good system
04:16:52 ER: levelup being from rolling the high on your die actually *encourages* people to try rolling stats they're bad at
04:17:14 Devastator: or rolling dice at all. ;-p
04:17:16 ER: using your d4 could be a disaster, but it's also likely to be a free skillpoint
04:17:27 ER: dice are for nerds
04:17:48 ER: you roll so many more dice than I do when you're running things
04:18:08 ER: like how are there that many things to roll for
04:18:29 Devastator: Depends a fair bit on how I feel. Sometimes I roll for stuff like 'did this person make a good move or a bad one?'
04:18:55 Devastator: in the last roll to quest, those were all the rolls.
04:19:23 ER: http://smbc-comics.com/comic/doctor-3
04:20:54 Devastator: heh
04:28:49 ER: alright, so
04:28:50 ER: 0 - 4- 0
04:28:50 ER: 1 - 6- 1
04:28:50 ER: 2 - 8- 3
04:28:50 ER: 3 -10- 6
04:28:51 ER: 4 -12-10
04:28:51 ER: 5 -14-15
04:28:52 ER: 6 -16-21
04:28:52 ER: 7 -18-28
04:28:53 ER: 8 -20-36
04:29:07 ER: level, die roll, cost from level 0
04:29:50 ER: so going over d12 at start is'n't worth it, and probably never will be unless starting stat points becomes crazy high
04:30:56 ER: getting really high in a stat will probably have to come down to rolling it a bunch or some method of cheating
04:34:38 Devastator: or get lucky.
04:34:40 Devastator: there's mutations.
04:35:00 ER: that's just unintentional cheating
04:35:20 ER: intentional cheating would be implants or something
04:36:27 Devastator: heh.
04:36:44 Devastator: but yeah, there will be some player who is cursed and doesn't stat up in like two dives.
04:36:51 Devastator: roll twenty dice, no max results.
04:37:45 ER: clearly starting with d14 in one thing and everything else unimproved is the ideal strat because it maximizes your odds of getting levels
04:39:19 Devastator: While maximizing your odds of dying. ;-p
04:39:57 ER: just put it in end, ez
04:40:20 ER: highest possible HP
04:41:13 Devastator: Dex is equivalent. ;-p
04:41:58 ER: yeah but end seems slightly more useful for not dying
04:42:26 ER: ...hey, start with d4 dex and a monorazor, cuz if you hit you get a *bonus* dex roll
04:42:43 ER: sorry, d4 speed
04:43:12 ER: and a couple backup monorazors ;p
05:04:38 Devastator: Sounds like a plan.
05:05:36 Devastator: I don't know what char I'd play in this.
05:06:14 Devastator: What would Safe's statline be?
05:06:45 ER: level 0 in this system
05:08:39 Piecewise: She'd probably be in negatives
05:08:59 ER: dammit, I wasn't paying attention and though you said car
05:09:00 Piecewise: her main role is moral support
05:09:12 ER: car is all d4 and getting levels the hard way
05:09:34 ER: potato I don't even know
05:09:50 Devastator: Car's got End.
05:09:50 ER: potatos don't have stats they're vegetables
05:09:53 Devastator: he takes a bunch of punishment.
05:09:59 Devastator: maybe d6 str and end, d4 everything else.
05:10:07 Devastator: but maybe below that in some mental stats.
05:10:09 ER: car obtained end by literally dying a bunch of times
05:10:21 ER: at the start, d4
05:10:31 ER: and cheats by retaining levels through time travel
05:10:33 Devastator: I remember him sucker punching those thugs.
05:10:42 ER: yeah he rolled a 4
05:10:54 Devastator: Hah.
05:11:00 Devastator: but yeah, that would mean he has at least d6. ;-p
05:14:39 Devastator: He also survived the professional beatdown by the lavender-haired knight.
05:23:55 Devastator: ..I'm also surprised you remember we called her Safe, Piecewise.
05:24:53 ER: I didn't.
05:24:57 ER: the name makes no sense
05:25:46 Devastator: yeah, but Piecewise knows who I was talking about.
05:28:18 Devastator: and it makes perfect sense. She's safe because she never is. ;-p

06:03:19 MidJag: hiya ER
06:04:19 MidJag: how are you?
06:04:22 ER: whats upwards?
06:04:33 MidJag: Nohting much, just tired.
06:04:59 ER: I am a superorganism!
06:05:02 MidJag: And kinda bored, I don't like my fraternities current crop of guys as much as the old guys.
06:05:29 ER: at least, according to people who'd argue that having a gut biobe means you're a superorganism
06:05:48 MidJag: Makes sense to me
06:06:07 ER: well, clearly you should spend all of your limited free tie playing games with us!
06:06:32 ER: PW's got a game system to test with us~
06:06:39 MidJag: Oh?
06:07:15 MidJag: Is dubs around?
06:07:29 ER: Piecewise Piecewise
06:09:28 MidJag: dev around?
06:10:52 MidJag: devastator?
06:16:09 MidJag: welp. any cool games ER?
06:18:26 Devastator: heya MidJag.
06:18:34 MidJag: hiya dev
06:18:42 MidJag: how're you?
06:18:50 Devastator: Just was elsewhere for a bit.
06:19:46 Devastator: doing okay.
06:20:37 MidJag: I gotcha.
06:20:53 Devastator: ate some bacon earlier.
06:21:00 MidJag: Canadian bacon?
06:21:09 Devastator: No, regular bacon.
06:21:38 MidJag: Ah, buch better bacon
06:21:43 MidJag: ^much~
06:22:36 Devastator: Back bacon is just fine, it's just for different things.
06:23:11 Devastator: Could do some code black, or could stream some more Distant Worlds.
06:23:22 MidJag: I dunno, I'm just tired.
06:34:57 Devastator: oh well.
06:36:20 Devastator: ahh, well..
06:36:56 Devastator: "My Ditto forgot how to use Struggle."
06:37:08 MidJag: ....how?
06:37:32 Devastator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeWxEbl2kWQ
06:38:46 Devastator: the guy doesn't figure it out then. Someone else does, though.
06:38:54 MidJag: I see
06:44:44 Devastator: I do like how some commentators are commenting on the video where the bug was discovered with the now-publicly available information on the bug discovered through this video.
06:44:53 Devastator: "Look, this is the solution"
06:44:54 MidJag: heh
06:44:58 Devastator: "Yeah, this is where that came from."
06:49:02 Devastator: also lost a roguelike character on the bossfight.
06:49:19 Devastator: forgot to use my cloning want to dupe my weapons, because there's some incredibly annoying spellcasting enemies.
06:49:30 MidJag: Damn
06:49:56 Devastator: Mystic Dark Frog:
06:50:06 MidJag: Mystic dark frog?
06:50:13 Devastator: That's what it's called.
06:50:21 Devastator: it has a high -damage lightning spell, but that's not a big deal.
06:50:39 Devastator: the big deals are the long-duration slow spell, the ability to teleport items out of your inventory and equipment slots.
06:50:57 Devastator: and the fact it doesn't need line of sight to do this, just ESP vision.
06:51:09 Devastator: It can also teleport you away.
06:51:18 Devastator: And it's invisible.
06:51:31 MidJag: That is some bullshit
06:51:40 Devastator: Oh indeed.
06:51:45 Devastator: and there's some priority system to it, too.
06:52:00 Devastator: It goes for an amulet of ESP first, then your primary weapons.
06:52:03 Devastator: Then it just goes random.
06:52:26 MidJag: What's the amulet of ESP do?
06:52:37 Devastator: It lets you see things through ESP-vision.
06:52:46 MidJag: Fair enough.
06:52:50 Devastator: you basically can spot intelligent monsters if they're within a certain range of you.
06:52:51 syv has joined #einsteinianroulette
06:52:56 Devastator: Even if they're invisible.
06:52:57 MidJag: hiya syv.
06:53:02 ER: yay sy
06:53:07 MidJag: what rougelike is this?
06:53:11 ER: I think Piecewise is gone tho
06:53:12 Devastator: IVAN.
06:53:16 MidJag: Ah right
06:53:22 Devastator: I also died with FOUR amulets of life saving, which is just dumb.
06:53:23 MidJag: That is a strange rougelike
06:53:29 MidJag: ....how?
06:53:41 Devastator: was wearing an ESP amulet.
06:53:52 MidJag: I have to say IVAN just seems to be very confusing, as a rougelike.
06:53:55 Devastator: well, then it was teleported away.
06:54:01 Devastator: oh yes. It's unfriendly.
06:54:10 Devastator: Not very many roguelikes as unfriendly as it.
06:54:18 MidJag: Seems so.
06:54:22 Devastator: ..have you actually tried to play it?
06:54:25 MidJag: Nope.
06:54:43 MidJag: I rember I watched you play and it thought this was far too confusing.
06:55:54 Devastator: It's not really hard to play, it's just very unfriendly.
06:56:13 Devastator: you hit things by walking into them.
06:56:25 Devastator: the sheer amount of foreknowlege required is also big.
06:56:29 syv: Hello
06:56:39 ER: hey!
06:56:47 ER: it's now possible to make a coe character!
06:56:51 syv: Damn, Dubs is gone
06:56:53 MidJag: So it's kinda like the opposite of Stone soup?
06:56:58 syv: Sweet
06:57:24 syv: I need to read logs
06:57:31 ER: if I go axe mode, I'll probably be able to carry things for the party
06:58:00 Devastator: Stone soup felt somewhat the same way, really.
06:58:08 Devastator: you need a ton of foreknowlege to do well in stone soup.
06:58:21 Devastator: But IVAN embraced the concept with terrifying results.
06:58:22 MidJag: Yeah, that's fair
06:58:45 Devastator: "Lets make the monster spawner create monsters depending on how strong the character is!"
06:58:54 MidJag: god, that's just insanse
06:59:00 Devastator: "Lets also make the levels contain fixed really dangerous encounters, so you can't go slow!"
06:59:06 Devastator: well, can't go low level.
06:59:26 Devastator: "Lets create enemies that only exist to create explosions in your face!"
06:59:31 Devastator: "Lets include land mines!"
06:59:36 MidJag: Right the kamakazie dwarves
06:59:58 Devastator: I mean, you can handle them, but you have to know about them first.
07:00:49 Devastator: and the chain of elite monsters ends with two monsters basically undefeatable.
07:01:03 Devastator: one of which you're unlikely to see, and one of which you're extremely likely to see.
07:01:44 Devastator: ..that's basically why you need the ESP amulet, so you can spot that one.
07:02:18 Devastator: because with a strong character, you can murder your way through the others. Then there's that one, who hits you four times and delimbs you immediately.
07:03:02 MidJag: Aren't there veteran kamikazie dwarves as well?
07:03:16 syv: Caught up
07:03:30 syv: CoE has a neat system methinks
07:03:53 syv: I suggested implementing a pity mechanic, but it's something that can come later.
07:04:02 syv: For levels.
07:05:52 MidJag: Man this is neat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Savannah
07:08:08 Devastator: Ahh, that one.
07:08:36 MidJag: indeed
07:09:27 Devastator: It could work, but not in this world.
07:10:25 MidJag: Yeah, it's a cool idea, it just also kinda poses a lot of potential problems
07:10:53 syv: Dropped over a hundred thousand tons of radioactive material
07:11:07 syv: Very low level, but still...
07:15:59 Devastator: The whole service model around merchants is against it.
07:16:11 MidJag: It's floating in baltimore, which I visit occasionaly, maybe I'll visit it one day
07:16:27 Devastator: New ones get worn out and then sold to increasingly low-budget operators until they turn into rustbuckets.
07:16:30 Devastator: Eventually they get scrapped.
07:16:49 Devastator: Man, I remember the chinese scrap metal crisis. That was hilarious.
07:16:54 MidJag: ?
07:17:10 MidJag: Chinese scrap metal crisis? I've never heard of this
07:17:15 Devastator: It was a few years ago.
07:17:59 Devastator: a bunch of complicated incidents left a string of chinese scrapyards expecting very high prices for scrap metal for an extended period of time.
07:18:15 MidJag: okay.
07:18:23 Devastator: They were facing a kind of supply shock, and ended up bidding way over normal value all over the world, including sending out agents to actually haul the ships back.
07:18:46 Devastator: Then the price collapsed after several months, but they bought way too many junk ships for way too much money.
07:19:05 Devastator: It actually blocked the ports of Beijing for about six months.
07:19:14 Devastator: well, maybe not there, but it was in north china.
07:19:42 Devastator: Hundreds of floating junk ships with more coming in every month and no clue what to do with them.
07:20:31 MidJag: heh, so it goes
07:21:08 syv: Dubs system added regenerating health over time, tracked by players, gah
07:21:12 syv: That sounds bad
07:21:28 syv: Based on turns, not timespan, too
07:22:39 syv: "Okay you spend a week traveling to Brobdingnag. Now you're in a fight, as you get ambushed." "Do I regen more than 1 HP?"
07:24:04 ER: should probably implement travel healing, then
07:24:11 MidJag: Alright, I'm going to bed.
07:24:27 syv: Goodnight, Jaggers
07:24:55 syv: Also prolly gonna be an issue when people forget.
07:25:06 syv: Though, it does balance huge potential HP totals.
07:25:27 MidJag has quit []
07:25:37 ER: yes but it's an invisible problem :p
07:25:45 syv: Regen is so slow that taking damage hurts... but is constant, so you're reducing your EHP if you don't take damage. Therefore motivating risks, while making chip damage meaningful.
07:25:46 ER: probably won't even know it's happening
07:26:07 syv: I like it, mechanically, just think it won't work well in practice
07:26:28 syv: Imagine, people cheating and increasing their HP rate
07:28:45 syv: ...Body part system is cumbersome too
07:28:56 syv: I don't know if I missed that or if it's new
07:29:36 ER: I assume that damage won't *accumulate* on bodyparts
07:30:18 ER: so it's take damage, roll part, PW remembers to check HP and determine if part is broken, says so in the turn, mark as a status effect
07:30:35 syv: Yep
07:30:39 ER: with brakage becoming more likely the lower hp is
07:30:55 syv: I see about three things there that Dubs will forget
07:31:21 ER: I mean, roll for bodypart is totally how ER worked, right?
07:31:51 ER: and if he forgets to tell us it's a status effect, it didn't happen and we're all happy~

07:34:44 Devastator: It also motivates risks by having levels gained through rolling dice.
07:35:05 syv: Yes. I like that too.
07:35:07 Devastator: ..it also seems somewhat unclear what a dead head actually does.
07:37:09 ER: I assume hurrt head is a concussion, destroyed head is death
07:37:35 ER: HEY PIECEWISE DOES ARMOR TAKE UP INVENTORY SLOTS
07:38:25 ER: WHICH THINGS DO OR DO NOT HAVE INVENTORY SLOTNESS
07:38:45 ER: PILLS DON'T TAKE UP SLOTS, BUT DOES THE BIOGEL CONTAINER?
07:41:32 Devastator: ..Pills probably should take up slots.
07:42:13 ER: they don't count "individually"
07:42:32 ER: maybe that means that they do use slots, but form stacks!
07:42:39 ER: CLAIRIFICATION REQUIRED
07:44:39 ER: hm, took 6 str. with my weapon, my backup weapon, and my two pieces of armor, I've already used up 66% of my inventory
07:45:27 syv: Agh, there's cheap and easy HP regen items :<
07:46:12 ER: the more powerful one is ~15 HP with a decent cost and a downside, when I have 32 HP
07:46:20 syv: ...I guess there's permanent damage through limb damage, so HP isn't the only thing that hurts.
07:47:26 ER: I am wondering if I'll have spare slots to bring anything back, though. autocage could help with that, but better if someone else takes it since it needs cha
07:49:19 Devastator: d10 isn't cheap and easy.
07:49:24 Devastator: for 100 it's still pretty good.
07:50:25 ER: syv, I'm giving you 150 mony
07:51:44 syv: Alright
07:51:55 syv: Will dev be joining?
07:52:43 Devastator: maybe.
07:52:58 Devastator: Is there something up now?
07:53:42 syv: Should be posting this as a testgame soon. That's the plan he stated to me, anyway.
07:53:51 Devastator: haven't decided what to play.
07:53:54 syv: Different setting than CoE, which is presumably why it's called Deep Space.
07:58:50 syv: Think I might do a cha build.
07:59:52 syv: Though the spidersilk and spider harness are sooooo tempting
08:01:33 ER: my dex isn't bad
08:02:15 syv: Oo, yeah, you have d8
08:03:00 syv: ...Looks like you spent 17 points?
08:05:09 Devastator: yeah, I haven't decided yet.
08:05:31 Devastator: mmm, got some ideas.
08:06:15 Devastator: There's no pickaxe. ;-p
08:06:29 ER: uh yeah, guess I gotta downgrade a d8 to d6
08:11:09 syv: Yup
08:12:13 ER: guess losing out on end isn't too bad, since all physical contributes to HP
08:12:19 syv: Cha d10, str/kno/per d8, rest d4
08:12:27 syv: You're giving me 150 money, ER?
08:12:31 ER: yes
08:12:39 syv: Alright
08:14:51 Devastator: maybe I'll max speed and leave everything else at d4.
08:14:55 ER: mysteriously autocages exist but nothing equivalent for luggage~
08:15:04 Devastator: or maybe just speed and dex.
08:15:46 ER: my kid might feel threatened if you're actually faster than her :p
08:15:52 syv: Do note that in a testgame you won't have much time to level. But sure.
08:16:05 syv: Between Egan and I, we have at least d8 in everything.
08:16:41 syv: ...I might be playing Big D.
08:17:03 syv: High strength, good mental stats, but minimum wisdom and other phys stats.
08:17:16 syv: Nah, he must have high end too.
08:18:18 ER: yeah big D needs end to be on drugs constantly
08:18:45 Devastator: Statting up Big D is difficult.
08:18:51 Devastator: d20 everything.
08:19:06 ER: I wonder if they actually made those characters in wod system?
08:19:11 syv: He did not seem to be that high on wisdom
08:19:15 syv: I'd bet they did
08:19:58 syv: Oxygen tanks are explosive, cost the same as the capture bombs, and there's no direct-damage bombs. HMMM.
08:20:44 ER: dad no
08:27:51 syv: Hrm, I can either have a large autocage, or a filament gun and spiderpack for my kid.
08:28:20 syv: Dev, if you're going to go full dex, might you buy filament equipment?
08:28:22 syv: ...Hrm
08:29:18 syv: Sigh
08:29:37 syv: I want to do autocage to abuse inventory mechanics, just as a demo of that.
08:29:43 ER: might be best not to go above a small cage unless we're like, after something in specific
08:30:09 syv: I guess I could put stuff like--
08:30:18 syv: Man, whistles consume an inventory slot, don't they?
08:30:42 ER: a jeep full of 500 whistles :p
08:31:07 Devastator: I'm gonna buy a filament cage.
08:31:13 Devastator: sorry.
08:31:15 Devastator: the filament gun.
08:31:23 Devastator: hell, max dex, maybe I don't buy one. ;-p
08:31:56 syv: I'll give you five cartridges if you buy one
08:33:19 syv: Though I could actually swap that for an oxygen mask and three cartridges.
08:33:32 syv: ...Yeaaaah I will
08:38:03 syv: ...Actually you prolly can't even USE an oxy mask. D4 strength.
08:38:20 syv sighs
08:39:24 syv: I'll keep it because I can give it to my child if there's toxic gas, or throw it at something and have child blow it up.
08:40:34 Devastator: Bah, oxy masks are for people who can't just outrun the gas.
08:41:00 syv: Precisely!
08:41:01 syv: Well, I'm giving you three filament cartridges.
08:41:50 syv: War drum, autoharness, arclamp, stimulant, 2* oxy masks, logbook, 3* filament carts.
08:42:06 syv: Tempted to swap the stimulant for a capture bomb.
08:42:59 syv: Oh, and a small autocage.
08:43:11 syv: Aaaa yeah I'll swap the stim.
08:44:04 ER: it's kinda unclear what SP actually does
08:44:19 ER: so I cannot rate my opinion of that action!
08:44:44 syv: Oh, it's stamina, not sanity
08:44:48 syv: I missed that
08:45:02 ER: yeah it's for... doing things???
08:45:20 syv: Presumably it's for mutations, or maybe it's an action tax, which would of course get removed very quickly.
08:45:27 syv: Ahhh, prolly for using artifacts
08:45:48 ER: stamina is a bit odd for being based on mental stats, but it does seem to be more magic
08:46:03 ER: maybe I could use it to wallrun or something
08:46:08 Devastator: it's 1k to buy stuff, right?
08:46:10 syv: Yes
08:49:15 Devastator: Helmets are obligatory, so 750 left.
08:49:32 Devastator: Filament Gun, 650
08:50:00 Devastator: 950 / 850
08:50:59 Devastator: mmm, pretty empty atm.
08:51:02 Devastator: I'll take the Death Ray.
08:51:32 syv: Could buy armor, 300
08:51:38 syv: You can also throw money at me.
08:51:40 Devastator: That's for people who aren't me. ;-p
08:51:52 Devastator: (Nah, I'll spend it.)
08:52:13 ER: sort of odd that armor is 50 for d6 on one part or 300 for the same defense on two parts
08:52:36 ER: seems to just make helmets a really good idea
08:52:44 syv: Well... yes?
08:54:13 ER: and absolutely no limb armor
08:54:28 syv: Yuuuup.
09:00:18 ER: also, mention of nonphysical armor but no items which provide that :p
09:00:31 ER: was expecting a shield generator or something
09:00:41 syv: Seems fair, really.
09:00:52 syv: Test doesn't need to test every mechanic in the game.
09:01:00 syv: More to see if the existing mechanics are cumbersome.
09:45:35 ER: I do like how the monorazor gives a sci-fi rationalization for iaijutsu
10:01:31 syv: I liked Renen's Iajutsu more, but yes.
10:01:40 ER: yes
10:09:52 ER: renan's sword was sweet

16:32:32 Piecewise: ER Armor DOES take up inventory slots. Pills of a single kind stack. So if you have 5 of a single kind of pill, 1 spot. 5 different pills? 5 spots.
16:32:59 syv: Hello Piecewise
16:33:11 syv: Do whistles take up a slot?
16:33:51 syv: And how about the autocages? Can they carry inventory for low strength players?
16:33:56 Piecewise: Might add a backpack item to increase carry load at the cost of something else while its worn.
16:34:38 Piecewise: Syv Yeah, HP restore seemed reasonable. If it trivializes things I'll change the amount at least. But stuff down there can hit pretty hard.
16:36:50 Piecewise: SP is for special powers, implants, mutation abilities, etc. You don't have access to them IMMEDIATELY but you can get some in the first level or even on the surface if you look. I could have at least one available for wanna be mutant weirdos.
16:40:58 syv: HP restore seems better if it's very expensive. Or if it's restricted in use, like needing to be used at the vehicle. But, yes, it'll depend on how hard things hit. It *is* quite expensive as is.
16:46:41 syv: Piecewise, when will a test start?
16:46:45 syv: I am excited
17:03:18 Piecewise: Soon. I'm laying out a "Cheat Sheet" for myself for all the actions I might need to take in a turn
17:05:50 syv: Yay!
17:07:59 Devastator: heh
