01:01:45 ER: "I'll just be over here, basking in the knowledge of a job well done and plotting acts of violence."
02:08:08 Devastator: mmm
02:08:11 Devastator: whatever that means.
02:08:31 ER: yes
02:09:07 ER: how much longer would my demon building take if I improved it to Huge size?
02:10:06 Devastator: in capabilities?
02:10:17 Devastator: ie, capable of bringing in huge equipment?
02:10:35 ER: yes, able to build huge size units / large size biological units
02:12:46 Devastator: Not much more, actually.
02:13:16 Devastator: but I'm going to say 'not possible until you do the first one.'
02:13:39 Devastator: gotta go through it as a gate.
02:13:48 ER: ?
02:14:49 Devastator: no making spinoff buildings of this until you finish the first one.
02:15:01 Devastator: but going for larger ones is not going to take very long.
02:15:06 ER: I'm not. I'm adjusting the design.
02:17:25 Devastator: yeah, sorry. The hard part's all working with the whole demon contact things.
02:17:39 Devastator: You'll have to modify the final design here.
02:17:48 Devastator: it won't take any longer that way.
02:17:48 ER: I'm supposed to be able to modify the design though
02:21:23 Devastator: Yeah, stick with the catgirls, though.
02:21:28 Devastator: it won't be expensive.
02:21:34 ER: I AM
02:21:39 ER: I have two labs!
02:22:00 ER: I want to adjust the design of them both!
02:22:44 ER: and I don't know what you mean by it not being expensive! What is it you're referring to?
02:23:47 Devastator: allowing the portal to deal with large units.
02:23:58 Devastator: it'll be about three or four.
02:24:10 Devastator: but I'd rather gate it after it's built, it won't cost any more.
02:24:36 ER: how can an improvement not cost anything...?
02:25:17 ER: If I use a heart, will I need yet another heart to build the improved version?
02:26:15 Devastator: Yes for that one.
02:26:28 ER: yeah, I'd rather not do that?
02:26:35 Devastator: it will be the same time either way, but this way you'd get to use it for three or four more months.
02:26:37 ER: let me just adjust it now
02:27:03 ER: no, that way I'll need three hearts rather than two
02:27:11 ER: or no, four
02:27:40 ER: one to research it, one to build it, another to research the better one, another to build the better one
02:28:30 Devastator: You won't need a second heart for the upgrade project.
02:28:34 Devastator: unless you use one.
02:28:44 Devastator: you need a second heart if you use a second heart.
02:32:53 ER: well, can I upgrade my facility without spending a third heart then?
02:33:08 Devastator: yeah.
02:33:14 Devastator: won't need extra hearts unless you use them.
02:33:23 ER: well, that's not vague
02:34:58 Devastator: that's a 'no, you don't need any more hearts'
02:35:06 Devastator: if you choose to use extra hearts, then yes.
04:18:44 Devastator: hmm.
04:18:49 Devastator: just realized Saeko doesn't glow anymore.
04:18:58 Devastator: can you ask dubs to confirm that?
06:19:53 Devastator: anyway, posted.
06:20:12 Devastator: got this turn and one more day to loot the ruins.
08:08:29 syv has joined #einsteinianroulette
08:10:13 Devastator: hey syv.
08:10:24 syv: hey dev.
08:11:26 Devastator: getting by?
08:11:44 syv: In a sense.
08:20:23 Devastator: mmm.
08:21:25 syv: Oh hey, you didn't remove my two dual-warhead consumables that I used on the jets.
08:24:48 Devastator: That one I was going to clean up later.
08:35:42 Devastator: thanks for the self-reporting.
08:37:51 syv shrugs
08:38:03 syv: Winning is no fun if I do it by accidentally cheating.
08:38:22 Devastator: I do hope you guys can win.
08:38:25 syv: I can already very nearly lick my own elbow.
08:39:04 syv: If my tongue was just an inch longer, or my upper arm were an inch shorter...
08:40:59 Devastator: okay.
08:44:18 Devastator: two days left in Cabal.
08:47:08 syv: Where'd all our days go? :P
08:49:13 Devastator: time after time.
08:49:15 Devastator: ;-p
08:49:22 Devastator: but yeah, getting the core out took like three extra days.
08:49:33 Devastator: I'll have time for some steel layers but have to return to finish things.
08:54:55 ER: flyyy me to the moooon
08:57:52 ER: syv? Devastator? time for more anime?
08:59:31 syv: No
08:59:43 ER: sad!
09:02:29 Devastator: thanks for stopping by.
09:03:24 syv: Ugh, should I even *bother* with disassembling a fighter?
09:03:34 ER: yes
09:03:42 syv: I'm not asking you.
09:03:50 Devastator: up to you.
09:04:00 syv: Well that's helpful.
09:04:02 Devastator: might have some neat stuff, but there's lots of neat stuff.
09:04:04 Devastator: sorry.
09:04:32 syv: Egan, you got any argument in favor of doing it?
09:04:50 ER: need it for 100%
09:05:13 syv: Not persuasive, 100% isn't an option at this point.
09:05:31 Devastator: got some sensors and communications gear.
09:05:41 Devastator: and the magicoal fueling stuff.
09:06:17 syv: Magicoal fueling doesn't seem useful, it's a power source that's used to power things we don't have.
09:06:32 syv: Sensors and comms are things we can make, and have no immediate use for.
09:07:21 Devastator: do the golems then.
09:07:33 Devastator: and I totally want some of the fuel systems. I'll take care of that, then.
09:07:59 syv: Annoyingly, I DID do the golems last turn. Was just ignored.
09:09:23 Devastator: yeah.
09:09:39 Devastator: I suppose I could get two more days and see if PW forgets the 3-day trip. ;-p
09:11:15 syv: Ugh, you have deactivated golems in your charsheet Dev.
09:11:20 syv: Where'd those come from?
09:12:49 Devastator: must have been the ones we found.
09:12:51 Devastator: not sure.
09:13:24 syv: Looting this place is very irritating.
09:13:43 syv: We've got three separate people doing things, and haphazard logging of what is done.
09:14:14 syv: It strays back into the old problem of having to do work just to *avoid* cheating.
09:14:52 Devastator: they were armoury golems.
09:15:06 Devastator: were added along with the stuff recovered from an armoury.
09:20:08 Devastator: so keeping them.
09:20:12 Devastator: and we're almost done. ;-p
09:20:22 syv: Poor Benedict.
09:21:07 Devastator: hmm?
09:21:14 Devastator: having to carry this stuff? ;-p
09:21:19 syv: Yeah.
09:21:48 Devastator: oh well, he got to sit around and laze about for most of a month. ;-p
09:21:51 Devastator: and got to kill stuff.
09:22:02 syv: Three golems are probably quite heavy, on top of a large crew, literal barrels of magicoal, prolly a couple robots, a ton of thaumic tools...
09:22:08 Devastator: and he got to go from catbird to biggest catbird.
09:22:10 Devastator: yeah.
09:23:01 Devastator: I didn't think the golems were so big. Might leave them behind then.
09:23:51 syv: When are golems *small*?
09:25:06 syv: ...Agh, damn it, never wore a control suit.
09:25:32 ER: in the control room?
09:26:13 Devastator: lots of times. And lots of times they aren't as giant as those ones.
09:26:15 Devastator: it's ok.
09:26:19 Devastator: did that already, didn't work without power.
09:26:32 Devastator: and, I hate to say it, not enough time to properly investigate that.
09:27:11 syv: Powering it is simple, jam mana into it.
09:27:18 RadioControlled has joined #einsteinianroulette
09:27:22 Devastator: oh, hey, RC.
09:27:27 syv: And yes there's enough time to check whether we have a free mecha.
09:27:36 syv: I mean come on.
09:27:40 ER: you linked them to the remains of massive statues outside
09:27:55 RadioControlled: Hey there you permanently stuck speedometers.
09:27:57 syv: Exactly.
09:28:05 syv: What do you want?
09:28:10 ER: so they're not gonna work unless you feel like repairing the statue of liberty golem
09:28:21 RadioControlled: Right now, I want food!
09:28:32 RadioControlled: And it's warming up as we speak so that's pretty convenient.
09:28:35 syv: Let me rephrase; why are you here?
09:28:42 Devastator: ok, go for it then.
09:28:51 Devastator: something wrong?
09:29:25 RadioControlled: Hmm, does 'idle distraction' count?
09:29:59 ER: these bastards don't want to watch eva with me tonight
09:30:03 ER: can you believe it
09:30:09 RadioControlled: What?!
09:30:25 RadioControlled: These madmen.
09:30:43 syv: It's five thirty AM, Egan.
09:30:56 syv: If you want to watch anime, maybe try at a more reasonable time?
09:31:06 ER: mhm
09:32:36 RadioControlled: Ooh! Yesterday Pan and I provided extra airholes to a lot of robot craniums!
09:32:54 Devastator: ok.
09:33:23 RadioControlled: Managed to beat the last boss even!
09:33:29 RadioControlled: 'twas fun.
09:34:06 Devastator: Congrats.
09:34:18 syv: Which class?
09:35:46 RadioControlled: Raider both. Pan first tried heavy for a bit but it didn't work out that well.
09:36:00 RadioControlled: Though he did find a minigun that was kind of disgusting after he upgraded it.
09:36:08 syv: Red?
09:36:40 syv: My only win had a red AA12 with like twelve upgrades piled onto it.
09:36:45 ER: red is in synthetik?
09:37:03 syv: It's a rarity. Legendary stuff is red-colored.
09:37:44 syv: They're all ridiculously minmaxed guns, often to the point of the min making it less practical than normal guns. But not always.
09:37:50 Devastator: mmm.
09:38:18 RadioControlled: I think it was one step below red.
09:38:28 RadioControlled: Could look it up if you want.
09:38:46 syv: Eh, nah.
09:38:53 RadioControlled: He did have a red railgun that shot through cover, that was also disgusting :p
09:39:20 Devastator: bang
09:46:44 RadioControlled: And how!
09:46:57 RadioControlled: the only way for those rounds to stop going is by traveling off-map.
09:47:06 Devastator: bang bang bang.
09:49:47 RadioControlled: That was about how the sequence for dealing with the tanks went, yeah.
09:50:33 Devastator: booom.
09:50:38 Devastator: what is the boss, anyway?
09:51:38 RadioControlled: 3 levels of the boss stage.
09:51:52 RadioControlled: lvl1: 2 tanks. Pretty easy honestly.
09:52:04 RadioControlled: Lvl2: disco room. FUCKING DICSO ROOM.
09:52:51 Devastator: gotten that far.
09:52:52 RadioControlled: lvl3: last defender, a boss fight kinda like the raptor fight, but with orbital lasers chasing you and disco tiles and health for days.
09:52:55 Devastator: what is the boss?
09:53:09 RadioControlled: Last defender is the last boss.
09:53:13 RadioControlled: Then you go into loop.
09:54:34 Devastator: oh, so back to the beginning.
09:54:36 Devastator: no end.
09:54:50 RadioControlled: Not really, far as I know.
09:55:04 RadioControlled: Not sure what happens if you beat the last boss in the loop again.
09:55:11 RadioControlled: Things get loopier I guess.
09:55:26 syv: Yeah. Infinite loops.
09:56:49 RadioControlled: loopdeloop
09:56:59 RadioControlled: But with bullets.
09:57:25 RadioControlled: but yeah, the penalties get stacked pretty damn high after a few rooms in loop.
09:57:57 RadioControlled: The raider healing item gave back like 70 health, an health regen was very slashed as well.
09:58:20 RadioControlled: Combined with higher enemy damage, just one blast can obliterate you.
09:58:27 RadioControlled: Oh well, still a good run.
09:59:47 Devastator: yeah, well done.
09:59:57 Devastator: time to recycle that stim.
10:00:57 syv: Hrm. My computer just crashed for no apparent reason.
10:00:58 RadioControlled: Really should start trying other classes, but muh double dash ;_;
10:01:19 RadioControlled: Have you tried downloading more RAM?
10:01:22 syv: And turning it back on made it last about one second before recrashing.
10:01:26 syv: Well, fuck.
10:02:03 RadioControlled: Oof. Yeah, I'd unplug it and leave it alone for a bit, then try starting in safe mode if it gets that far.
10:02:23 syv: ...Yeah, okay. Why the unplug?
10:03:30 Devastator: volatile memory issues, or maybe a short somewhere.
10:03:50 RadioControlled: Not 100% sure, but it has helped for me in the past.
10:04:04 syv: Voodoo, got it. :P
10:04:16 RadioControlled: Could be static charge building up as well.
10:04:43 ER: https://youtu.be/wy-sVTaZRPk
10:05:32 RadioControlled: It wasn't just me imagining things, fairly sure, but it's something easy you could try.
10:06:45 RadioControlled: I think I'm about to go, but before I do, a small anecdote:
10:06:56 RadioControlled: Recently the university gym I normally use sent its members a link to a website with small videos on various exercises you can do from home. Ok I think, let me take a look and see what they have.
10:07:02 RadioControlled: 'TotalBody' Ok, sure.
10:07:07 RadioControlled: 'HardCore 2' Oh, this one’s a series.
10:07:14 RadioControlled: 'ButtBlaster 12' ...
10:07:14 Devastator: that not porn?
10:07:39 RadioControlled: One would be forgiven for thinking so, yeah :p
10:07:41 syv: That... no, that does sound like a crappy workout name.
10:08:41 RadioControlled: The fact that it was university approved just made it all the better.
10:09:19 RadioControlled: Anyways, I bid you gentlemen adieu.
10:09:37 ER: no
10:09:40 ER: you must stay
10:09:42 Devastator: ok
10:09:45 Devastator: see you.
10:09:48 Devastator: come back soonish.

22:12:18 Devastator: Heya IO.
22:12:36 Devastator: M:TW is very much exclusive fullscreen, so hard to do chat. I'll keep backing out.
22:13:12 IronyOwl: kk
22:14:54 Devastator: Also not sure about the volume.
22:15:00 Devastator: should be up now.
22:15:04 Devastator: twitch.tv/kofiman19
22:15:41 IronyOwl: I'm getting sound but I can't see anything
22:16:47 IronyOwl: I hear coins but I cannot see the shinies
22:26:20 IronyOwl: I don't know what's going on but are you a real conquerer if the pope hasn't excommunicated you several times?
22:31:12 IronyOwl: are you inquisitioning your rivals after having been excommunicated by the pope?
22:50:24 IronyOwl: this is very festive post-murder music
22:51:10 IronyOwl: Dev? SAVESCUMMING?!
22:51:44 Devastator: no, not been excommunicated.
22:51:49 Devastator: and yes, been excommunicated a few times.
22:51:53 IronyOwl: still can't see anything~
22:52:00 Devastator: welp.
22:52:03 Devastator: I'll see if I can fix that.
22:52:05 Devastator: sorry.
22:53:06 Devastator: okay, this should work.
22:53:09 Devastator: I'll check back sooner.
22:53:12 IronyOwl: hehe
22:53:25 IronyOwl: fullscreen isn't a problem when everything's working, buuuuuuuut~
22:53:34 IronyOwl: ah, there we go
22:54:04 IronyOwl: this is far more dated-looking than I expected
22:54:39 Devastator: Ok, that works.
22:54:53 Devastator: laggy as fuck, but that's to be expected.
22:54:58 IronyOwl: sadly yes
22:55:11 Devastator: Not happy about streaming this.
22:55:17 Devastator: not happy about running it in the first place.
22:55:20 Devastator: ;-p
22:55:25 Devastator: it wants stuff that sits in its boxes.
22:55:35 Devastator: ok, will go back to playing.
23:15:03 IronyOwl: "Craven whoreson" really doesn't appear enough in anything
23:28:31 IronyOwl: this is probably a good place to call it
23:28:53 Devastator: Yeah, thanks.
23:28:55 Devastator: and yes.
23:29:08 IronyOwl: so that was pretty interesting
23:29:13 Devastator: yeah?
23:30:35 IronyOwl: RTS with really oldschool overmap
23:30:45 IronyOwl: couldn't tell what was happening most of the time, but I saw the usual signs
23:30:49 Devastator: The province-based system is much better.
23:30:53 IronyOwl: stats, unit stacks, spending money on things
23:31:01 Devastator: basically, a settlement is the territory around it.
23:31:10 Devastator: and you can move things to adjacent provinces.
23:31:22 Devastator: the overseas stuff was because I had lots of ports and boats all over the place.
23:31:42 Devastator: It was changed due to graphical advancements rather than anything else.
23:32:14 IronyOwl: did later entries use more discrete settlements?
23:32:56 Devastator: Only the first two used provinces.
23:33:10 Devastator: every subsequent game has a tile-based worldmap with cities placed upon it.
23:33:27 Devastator: they often have provinces for things like controlled area and map purposes, but it's about the tiles.
23:33:46 IronyOwl: gets a bit fiddly, I presume?
23:33:50 Devastator: so insead of moving like three stacks around, you ahve to shove them all in close.
23:33:54 Devastator: yeah, even more so than that.
23:34:25 Devastator: plus it adds lots of features like 'lightning strikes' which prevents the AI from getting a big stack together, because if one does, you can always pick off each element in an individual battle.
23:34:46 Devastator: which, you know, makes the player feel great for setting it up... when the skill involved is 'push a button'.
23:35:39 Devastator: There was also that battle. I had much better units than the AI, but the AI made me lose a goodly number of troops there, and didn't leave any obvious mistakes in unit handling.
23:36:08 Devastator: I was only able to get probably one or two good matchups.
23:36:14 IronyOwl: I couldn't entirely tell what was going on, but I notice everyone didn't just clump together into a mash
23:36:19 IronyOwl: there was at least one actual flank
23:36:32 Devastator: well, it got messy because it always did.
23:36:49 Devastator: but in general I made a line and the AI counterattacked when I put a light cav unit on a hill in front of it's line.
23:36:56 Devastator: its line.
23:37:31 Devastator: it managed to overwhelm that end of the line and destroyed a unit of spears, about half of a couple units of archers, and two units of light cav I had to fill the gap in.
23:38:27 Devastator: I ended up winning that part when I got a spear unit on top of that hill and unengaged where it could work into the backside of the enemy general unit who made that rout happen, but the AI had no tools left to stop me. It did have a reserve unit, but it was used to keep me from rolling up the left flank similarly.
23:38:46 Devastator: threw it away into the charge of the best unit I had on that battlefield, my full on knight unit.
23:38:57 Devastator: which I'd kept as a reserve so I could turn a flank properly.
23:39:23 Devastator: ..there are a lot more morale modifiers in Medieval than the later game, so if you have someone surrounded, or if you have the high ground, or if you're alone.. all those things matter.
23:40:36 Devastator: basically it killed about 2/3 the value of its units of my units, and I had about twice the overall power, taking in account my better general. So I'd say that battle had me perform slightly worse than what you'd expect from it on paper.
23:41:07 IronyOwl: also cool
23:41:22 IronyOwl: lots of games, uh... go with the exponential wins calculation
23:41:36 IronyOwl: bigger army crushes smaller army with fewer losses
23:42:06 IronyOwl: I mean, this kinda did as well, but not nearly as much
23:43:05 Devastator: It's true in MTW. If you have more units you can surround enemies, or you can tie them up and do stuff like getting back charges, or pin them and shoot arrows with your extra troops.
23:43:32 Devastator: What's different is that the AI knows how to buy kills, and goes for them.
23:43:48 IronyOwl: I see
23:44:10 Devastator: so it's very hard to get away with extremely few or no losses.
23:45:41 Devastator: If you do play it, play the XL mod.
23:45:57 Devastator: it removes peasants from being buildable and does some other improvements.
23:46:08 Devastator: that helps the AI, because you can't do squat with those.
23:47:09 IronyOwl: peasants being buildable?
23:47:30 Devastator: yeah.
23:47:50 Devastator: a unit that takes nothing other than the basic fort in a province. Comes in default-size 100 groups, are crap.
23:47:50 IronyOwl: like a really shitty military unit or what?
23:48:20 Devastator: it's AI bait and causes them to spend money on something nearly worthless. Also makes upkeep garrisons too easy and cheap to build.
23:48:35 IronyOwl: ah
23:48:47 Devastator: just about every unit other than them can be used for some purpose.
23:49:44 Devastator: I've lost more than one general to the basic urban militia, which are basically them but with armour-piercing weapons and a smaller unit size.
23:49:57 Devastator: probably the next most pathetic unit. ;-p
23:50:46 IronyOwl: generals are a shitty unit?
23:51:04 Devastator: They can be anything, but it's common for them to be pretty good units.
23:51:21 Devastator: Whoever is in charge is the general.
23:51:26 IronyOwl: ah
23:51:36 Devastator: if the king is there, the king is the general. Other than that, it's whoever has the most command stars.
23:51:56 Devastator: if there's a tie, it goes to whoever has a title. If that ties, it's whoever is in the best unit.
23:52:21 Devastator: I think the tiebreaker for that is which unit has the lower ID number.
23:52:38 Devastator: which implies it's been around longer or built in a lower index province, if the same age.
23:52:48 Devastator: but it's whoever is in charge of the battle, and losing that unit sucks.
23:53:11 Devastator: means all the general-related bonuses go away and everyone takes a significant morale hit and is more ready to run away.
23:53:11 IronyOwl: does that mean each unit has both unit stats and leader stats?
23:53:16 Devastator: Yes.
23:53:25 Devastator: you right-click on any unit and it brings up the leader of that unit.
23:53:31 IronyOwl: interesting
23:53:43 Devastator: is that not the case in modern ones?
23:53:49 IronyOwl: is managing leadership a big part of the game?
23:53:58 Devastator: Very much so.
23:53:58 IronyOwl: I wouldn't know, but I've never heard of something like that for any other game
23:54:26 Devastator: an eight-star general (one less than the max) makes a light cavalry unit equivalent to a knight.
23:54:31 Devastator: except against arrows.
23:55:00 Devastator: the other stats are less important, but they're still there.
23:55:21 IronyOwl: so it basically lets your units level, just in a somewhat indirect way
23:56:52 Devastator: Units do level.
23:57:04 Devastator: although it's on an individual soldier basis.
23:57:06 Devastator: Just a sec.
23:58:20 Devastator: each individual soldier has a 'valor' rating, which adds +1 attack and defense per point.
23:58:29 Devastator: if that soldier gets kills, that can increase.
23:59:37 Devastator: Looking at the logfile, soldier #52 in that spanish jinette unit that survived with 12 guys had 11 kills or captures, and went from a personal rating of 0 valour to 3 valour.
