00:16:41 ER: do you think that a tilde is sort of like a mini owo
01:05:11 Devastator: anime face on not anime looks weirdest.
01:16:39 Devastator: So what's the concept of medicine talking about,
ER?
01:17:11 Devastator: apparently it's in the comments.
01:18:06 Devastator: the big down arrow suggests otherwise.
01:18:29 ER: ...yeah, because that's where you ask questions?
01:18:47 Devastator: I thought Marcy might be responding in comments.
01:18:51 Devastator: I think someone's done that before.
01:20:22 Devastator: numberphile video about the tetraflexagon.
01:20:34 Devastator: that was the one kids made when I was in school.
01:22:03 Devastator: hardly forgotten to me..
01:27:28 Piecewise: Kids made you into a complex polyhedron?
01:29:30 Devastator: Nah, they made paper tetraflexagons.

02:58:35 Devastator: If she escapes, they'll be at our door tomorrow anyway.

03:39:51 syv: Someone should meme Braveheart into that gif somehow.
03:40:10 ER: well, since everyone is here apparently: go play Disco Elysium
03:40:26 syv: No, I'm fairly certain I would despise the game.
03:40:42 syv: It might be good, but it's in a genre that makes me naseous.
03:40:49 ER: it's basically planescape torment but with less annoying fights~
03:41:17 syv: Did you ever complete PS:T, or even get very far at all?
03:41:36 ER: I didn't beat it, so I don't know how far very far would be
03:42:16 ER: I got into the city's basement and talked to whatshisface and he told me to go the crypt and I stopped because I was bored of stabbing random thugs
03:42:55 ER: that's the whatshisface in the basement, yes?
03:42:56 syv: Guy in charge of a village of scavengers and thieves?
03:43:11 syv: There's a lot of whatsisfaces in basements.
03:43:45 syv: Yeah, I think Pharod is like... 10% into the game or so? So yeah, not very far.
03:44:25 syv: Has Disco Elysium dealt with philosophy much?
03:45:49 syv: Well, maybe I'd like it. Still not gonna play it because it's really not a priority.
03:45:59 ER: it's a game about a mentally damaged man's thoughts yelling at him to take drugs and impress people and occassionally be useful
03:46:14 syv: That does not sound like PS:T.
03:46:41 syv: That does not sound like a good way to convince me of anything positive.
03:46:50 syv: Nice qualification, very smart.
03:47:43 ER: I enjoy it very much for reasons that I'm not very qualified to explain other than "I like the words being put in front of my face"
03:47:55 Devastator: It sounds a lot like PS:T, but 90 degrees bent.
03:48:45 ER: It's set in someone's random-ass RP setting they've been playing in for years.
03:48:55 ER: as is Unsounded, by the way
03:50:08 Devastator: Sigil is a cut above someone's random-ass setting.. but yeah, it's a 90 degree relation, that.
03:50:08 ER: just gotta write a real media set in
ER, and we'll be *geniuses*
03:51:38 syv:
ER is pretty cleanly somebody's random ass RP setting. No offense to Dubs, but not much sets it apart.
03:52:05 Devastator: eh, it's got stuff.
03:52:06 syv: Planescape is... pretty damn interesting, IMO. Not just Sigil, which is kind've a more generic part of it, IMO.
03:52:08 Devastator: but I can see that point.
03:53:15 MidJag: who is Planescape intresting?
03:55:29 syv: Thought and belief directly influencing reality, everyone kinda being a very small portion of the universe's godhead, the connection and separation of planes of reality, the whole cosmology in general... Sigil ends up being the best representation of all of it, I suppose, but in and of itself is a little generic as the melting pot city at the center of everything.
03:56:04 syv: You see the same kinda stuff as Sigil in K6BD, for instance, except K6BD has pressure cooked it all into genericity
03:58:22 ER: ...I wonder if I did that arena fight game with the power tiers how closely the end result would resemble K6BD
03:58:52 syv: Ah yeah. One of the big things I love about Planescape is how it centers around the question of how reality itself works. You've got a whole ton of factions in Sigil who are all based around philisophical concepts about how stuff works, and what the point of life is.
04:15:18 syv: "I wanted there to be the most gruesomely detailed autopsy scene ever put into a game"
04:15:45 syv: This
dev interview keeps flipflopping between statements that make me disinterested and interested. -.-
04:17:31 ER: a lot of words put into describing that dumb corpse
04:17:44 syv: By a normal person's definition, that's gruesome.
04:18:07 ER: but normal people are wrong
04:18:51 syv: By the game's
dev at that.
04:20:03 ER: I suppose it might be true that it's more grusomely detailed than any other game, I'm not sure I've played many games with autopsies.
04:20:29 ER: at least, ones where it actually happens in front of you, not glazed over.
04:21:16 MidJag: They have some cool autopsies.
04:21:20 Devastator: no, doesn't happen in front of you.
04:21:31 MidJag: You still see the aftermath
04:21:32 ER: there is an after picture though
04:23:43 Devastator: Best autopsy was the micronoid one.
04:24:19 MidJag: I do like XCOMs autopsys.
04:24:27 syv: A lot of this art strikes me as really Boschy.
04:25:02 MidJag: I was always dissapointed in the fact that get less detailed as time went.
04:26:01 ER: did you look at the portaits for skills? I like those.
04:27:00 syv: Yes, and I'm including them. "Artsy" is pretty damn broad, Bosch had a very specific style. Very... fever dreamy. I don't like fever dreams.
04:27:48 syv: It screams "broken schizophrenia", which is a really bad sign for a protagonist IMO, but it seems like that's actually more just an aesthetic"
04:28:53 MidJag: Sounds like something I'd enjoy, I quite like that asthetic
04:29:35 syv: If ypu want it, I'll buy it for you.
04:30:16 MidJag: Eh, I don't have time franklly.
04:30:57 ER: you don't think of aspects of your own mind personified as strange, distorted faces?
04:31:10 MidJag: Since
ER is still only on the second day I belive
04:31:18 ER: seems like just a normal human thing to me~
04:32:18 syv: "over sixty hours on a normal playthrough and over ninety if you're thorough"
04:32:41 ER: reviewer said it's not that much
04:32:44 syv: Same line says it has a million words of text, so it sounds like it's very comparable in length to PS:T.
04:32:59 Devastator: should I give some info on the death ray truck or not?
04:33:08 Devastator: It won't be anything like your stuff,
syv.
04:33:55 ER: I've decided that mad science isn't cost-effective and I'll just ignore it
04:34:21 ER: in lieu of normal science, which is *totally* sane and not catgirls
04:35:51 Devastator: incidently, if you bougt it, you'
04:35:57 Devastator: you'd get more intel than someone else would.
04:39:40 ER: I should build catgirls for intel!
04:39:53 ER: with big ears and big eyes, for intel!
04:40:41 ER: and the catgirls will infiltrate anywhere, because WHO DOESN'T WANT TO HIRE A CATGIRL!?
04:41:41 Devastator: I'd let infiltration be cheaper if you design something for it.
04:41:50 Devastator: and the rules are certainly loose enough to allow that to be a catgirl.
04:41:57 Devastator: but you still need a medium lab for that.
04:42:15 ER: research catgirl operatives?
04:42:31 ER: can I upgrade during action phase?
04:43:24 syv: Could always work together, you build a large workshop, I research junk for you, you build some.
04:43:39 Devastator: Sorry. You can do it next turn. This is the kaiju-fighting phase.
04:44:55 syv: Really, I'd think upgrading to larger infrastructure would be a top priority for people.
04:45:49 ER: haven't needed it thus far, you know.
04:46:06 ER: plus, the later I upgrade the less I spend on upkeep
04:46:49 syv: It's pretty easy to think of ways to use it, and everyone needs upgrades right now.
04:47:04 syv: The only major advantage waiting confers is a better idea about what to pursue.
04:47:26 syv: Even then... I don't think there's many wrong answers.
04:47:57 Devastator: Also, you're getting more funding next turn, too.
04:48:10 Devastator: it's the end of the first review period.
04:48:22 Devastator: Are you guys going to do any missions or such?
04:48:38 Devastator: ahh, nah, it's not hard math to work with, but I need a lot of stuff open.
04:48:49 Devastator: Nah, it'll be tougher next review period.
04:49:01 MidJag has left #einsteinianroulette
04:49:10 syv: I guess I could send my infantry out to do stuff.
04:49:14 Devastator: ie, are you using an action phase to do anything, such as raiding or what not?
04:49:20 Devastator: that might affect your budget change.
04:50:08 syv: I mean, not saying no, I just don't see any real options here.
04:50:10 Devastator: if not, I'll give you guys your funding for next turn.
04:50:29 Devastator: well, if you build an intel building, it might tell you about targets.
04:50:29 syv: I guess I could drop infantry on a Turkish airbase or something, steal a jet, but that seems pretty unwise.
04:50:50 ER: bah, where did you tell me about...
04:50:53 syv: WHAT DO WITH THIS DELTA FORCE
04:51:25 ER: all I know about em is they're shady.
04:51:37 syv:
Dev, that enough info for me to do a thing?
04:52:30 ER: good, that would probably interfere with my infiltration
04:52:46 syv: I was gonna ask if you were okay with me doing anything.
04:53:04 syv: You suuure you don't want to send my troops out to do a thing, though?
04:53:19 Devastator: without intel you could try to raid governments and such, but it's probably a bad idea.
04:53:20 syv: I'll give you shares if any loot comes of it.
04:53:29 Devastator: that kinda stuffs more profitable, usually, for the mad scientists.
04:53:32 ER: and hey, they're just shady, that doesn't mean they're the bad guys! I mean, I'm shady and I'm *totally* on the side of good and right. :V
04:53:37 Devastator: although more risky.
04:53:58 Devastator: but they're not dependant on funding, so have less to lose directly.
04:54:15 ER: Go raid Irony, they're not even subtle about being eeevil~
04:54:37 ER: hey
dev, why don't we have naval units?
04:54:46 Devastator: Go research some then.
04:54:57 Devastator: And yeah, ships are big.
04:55:07 Devastator: but you could design one with a large lab.
04:55:12 Devastator: there are useful boats in that size.
04:55:36 syv:
Dev, could I steal carriers with enough troops?
04:55:39 Devastator: medium would probably just get you basically rubber rafts and small boats.
04:55:48 Devastator: I could imagine you doing that, but it'll be tough.
04:55:58 Devastator: the US has an abnormally strong military strength.
04:56:08 Devastator: and nobody else has a carrier worth stealing.
04:56:13 Devastator: It's 1999, remember.
04:57:00 syv: Reminds me of the end of Xenonauts, where the chief scientist basically just says "Governments will probably want our organization to dissolve now, but really commander, we have power armor and handheld nuke rifles. They still have M16s and Kalashnikovs."
04:57:16 ER: abnormally strong military strength!? sounds like "tons of loot" to me!
04:57:20 Devastator: That could happen, but they'll have numbers.
04:57:31 Devastator: and they are doing things, too.
04:58:05 syv: If we research new designs for stuff, could we sell the designs?
04:58:09 Devastator: They aren't going to stop the kaiju for you, though, but there won't be nothing.
04:58:21 Devastator: Nah, I'd rather not get into that part of X-Com, where you make stuff for sale.
04:58:28 Devastator: the funding increase should be pretty big.
04:58:48 syv: So it's pretty easy for everyone to agree to just not give the world the means to defend itself from us.
04:59:41 ER: that's like, one of my favorite ideas about what an X-Com game would be like that no X-Com game is actually like
05:00:41 ER: Of other orginizations also adapting, possibly using things that you invented.
05:01:21 ER: it makes sense when X-Com is like, 500 people or something? And trying to fight a planetary war?
05:01:24 syv: Eell thrre's still tge other players.
05:02:04 ER: well, this is x-com if there were five x-coms
05:02:29 Devastator: In truth, you guys probably employ about 150 people at game start.
05:02:37 Devastator: and it'd definately go up from there.
05:02:39 syv: Long War kinda implemented that a little bit. Countries would ask for tech and weapons, and the more you gave them the better their own defenses would be.
05:04:13 ER: the way I'd really think that a game with x-com setup should go would be maybe more of a paradox-style grand strategy game.
05:04:25 Devastator: I'm not GMing that.
05:05:58 syv: You never got to see allies using the weapons though, or buy them back after China or whatever started mass producing a clone.
05:06:24 ER: now see, that would be the STUFF :P
05:07:20 ER: at the start, one rifle. one-of-a-kind. few months later, there are ten million of them.
05:07:33 syv: Hmm. That'd be am interesting game. You're not X-com, you're more like the Foundation, a secret
05:07:42 syv: Organization with fingers in every pie.
05:08:11 syv: Aliens are invading, semi-secretly, and the goal is to manipulate countries into fighting the ayys rather than each other.
05:08:48 syv: While also developing tech and spreading it around, but trying to control its flow to keep it in the gooder countries' hands, and not traitor hands.
05:19:00 ER: actually died for the first time in disco elysium
05:19:09 ER: trying to break down a door :P

05:39:41 ER: SUGGESTION [Medium: Success] - These guys are so macho they're ready to confess to first-degree murder. Ask if it was them.
05:48:16 Devastator: No relation to current events, that. ;-p
05:48:43 ER: btw, I did so. And they did.
05:49:09 ER: They also outnumber me enough that arresting them is impossible.
05:50:17 Devastator: just redefine mathematics so one is the last ordinal number instead of the first.
05:51:18 ER: not sure if that'll work out for me
05:57:42 Devastator: I thought it was that kind of game.
05:57:46 syv: Apparently the crestion of this game was *very* political.
06:00:30 Devastator: ..yes? Games about odd philosophical effects and reality being warped in strange ontological ways?
06:01:02 ER: no, reality itself is not something you remotely have the ability to alter
06:13:05 ER: this is a game about suffering!
06:16:39 syv: I suppose suffering can change the nature of a man.
06:18:12 ER: esprit de corps is a good skill
06:18:42 ER: I don't think those cut-away scenes have ever been USEFUL, but they're good :P
06:22:43 syv: That comes across as a good joke.
06:23:24 ER: the next line ruins it a tiny bit by explaining it, but it's still a good joke
06:53:03 syv: More seriously, did you choose those options, like the "Interfacing [medium success]" line, or did those all just pop up at once?
06:53:52 ER: the ones slightly greyed are ones I've read already
06:54:18 ER: some clicks are just contenue, some have options
06:55:06 ER: in that case, interfacing and esprit came up on their own, I didn't pick an option to roll them
06:55:39 ER: though some options are labelled as skill checks, and you can see your percentage chance of beating them before taking them
06:56:17 ER: some of them are white skill checks, which mean you can try them again if you put a point into the relevant skill. some are red, meaning that you can't.
07:02:44 syv: But you don't alter reality itself by choosing an option or not choosing it? My first thought with that screenshot had been that you were interrupted when he steepled his fingers, and given a list of options which would affect what he would say, despite the options being your interpretations.
07:03:38 ER: no, that was a yellow contenue button
07:04:10 ER: when hitting it will result in a skill check, the button is the color of the skill. just a nice little though
07:04:53 ER: You never directly control Kim, or anything other than your own actions really.
07:05:27 ER: I guess some of how you act could be seen as retconning what you were like before losing your memory? dunno
07:08:54 syv: Writing an action for Cabal has apparently become a "don't want to do" thing.
07:09:17 ER: I know *exactly* that feeling
07:10:47 Devastator: sometimes it's just a lot of effort.

10:40:29 ER: kinda. I came back to the body
10:42:12 ER: silly game, cooking human flesh smells like pork, not beef
10:45:03 syv: Now that's just basic research that they should have done. >:(
10:47:10 ER: well, armor greaves. Looted from the corpse, of course.
10:47:37 ER: the cooking human flesh was from cleaning bits of his legs off the inside of them so that I could wear them
10:48:12 ER: put them in a pot with boiling water, soap, and vineger. this was described as "like beef stew"
10:48:37 ER: I don't think smell specifically was mentioned, so they might get by on a technicallity
