00:02:32 Piecewise: Oh and get used to thrust and sweeps
00:02:40 Piecewise: and grab that skill to counter thrusts
00:02:45 Piecewise: very use ful
00:05:45 syv: Thrusts are good, and I did grab the skill, yet always hit jump instead of dodge for some reason. It's trivial to use in training, yet for some reason my mind just can't understand which button activates it outside of training. -.-
00:14:45 ER: heh
00:14:56 ER: found the guy who sells firecrackers
00:16:25 ER: a fellow crow enthusiast!
00:16:49 Piecewise: those firecrackers are actually the prosthetic tool.
00:16:56 Piecewise: though they look like a consumable
00:17:08 ER: yeah, I know I've seen the tool
00:17:29 ER: they were like... in the first trailer for the game, so I know about it. :V
00:20:15 ER: is there any real difference between getting up from a ledge hang by pressing x and by pressing a?
00:20:23 ER: maybe the jump is noisier?
00:22:15 ER: heh
00:22:23 ER: this guy quotes patches
00:34:58 Piecewise: Oh no
00:35:02 Piecewise: I just killed dark sousl
00:35:06 Piecewise: souls even
00:35:11 ER: rip
00:35:36 ER: so, the amount of XP needed to gain a skill point goes up each level, right?
00:35:43 Piecewise: Like a man in full european platemail and swinging a claymore attacked me
00:35:54 ER: and when you die, you only lose XP, not the skill points?
00:35:58 Piecewise: yeah
00:36:14 ER: hmm, interesting
00:36:33 ER: the closer you are to leveling up, the more desperately you need to not die :P
00:38:58 Piecewise: abuse that stealth
00:39:37 ER: they also give you an unlimited homeward bone right from the start.
00:39:50 ER: as in it's like the one item you literally start the game with
00:40:11 ER: so if you're feeling the danger, run hide and bone home
00:42:08 syv: It's an ancient feather~
00:42:40 Piecewise: I just got monkey booze
00:44:26 ER: stick it in your arm
00:44:42 ER: along with 10000 LMGs
00:47:47 Piecewise: >find note
00:47:55 Piecewise: >Shinobi escape route
00:47:58 Piecewise: >secret door
00:48:04 Piecewise: >leads to fucking headless demon
00:48:10 Piecewise: Escape route my ass
00:48:21 ER: escape route
00:48:26 ER: from life
00:51:41 Piecewise: man spring loaded flame vent is a hell of a thing
00:51:59 ER: hellofa drug
00:52:39 ER: also I hope the running slide move isn't important because that's the input that my controller likes to fuck up.
00:56:37 Piecewise: I haven't used it
01:03:22 Piecewise: Fist full of ash is actually quite a good item
01:03:27 Piecewise: basically a smoke bomb
01:03:57 ER: yup
01:04:12 ER: items are a bit akward to use in combat tho
01:08:35 syv: Yeah. I've never had this much trouble selecting combat items in DaS. I think the UI should be bigger.
01:09:26 syv: ...Also, boss HP should be more notable than boss poise. Before PW mentioned HP, I though Mr. Murakumo had infinite HP, and needed to be worn down until he could be critted.
01:15:02 Devastator: heyo.
01:15:12 Devastator: It's a different kind of escape.
01:15:50 ER: all bosses need to be worn down until they can be critted
01:16:11 ER: they don't die when they run out of vitality, you actually have to deathblow them
01:16:30 ER: but the lower their vitality, the more their posture builds up
01:20:02 ER: oof, 3000 for a phantom kunai
01:20:17 Devastator: It's like a real kunai, but it only works when nobody looks at it.
01:20:49 syv: Yeah, I hadn't realized he had HP, so I was just focusing on parrying and going full-aggro when possible so that he didn't get any chances to recover.
01:20:52 syv: I died a lot.
01:21:19 ER: yeah, dealing damage is pretty important
01:21:41 Devastator: heya syv.
01:21:49 syv: heya dev.
01:22:00 Devastator: PS looks like lots of discussion.. can we get a hold before the next update? Lotsa thinking to do.
01:23:43 Devastator: and good that samurai game is going well.
01:24:05 ER: more of a ninja game
01:24:22 ER: though it's certainly a ninja game with a lot of sword
01:25:21 syv: Yeah, nineteen posts, none of them with boldtext.
01:25:52 syv: I *could* update it, but it'd just be an extended description of the witch chewing on Mina, while everyone else whinges uselessly.
01:25:57 Devastator: heh.
01:26:12 Piecewise: The phantom kunai is to use madam butterfly's special kunai that have trailing butterflys for damage
01:26:20 Devastator: Well, I could write up a quickie action for you, in the absense of anyone else, but it doesn't seem meaningful.
01:26:20 syv: I won't do that, because it's inspired by PM3, not Attack on Titan.
01:26:22 Piecewise: they make her second phase a real bitch sometimes
01:26:23 Devastator: Heya PW.
01:26:25 Devastator: sent IRC PM.
01:26:27 Piecewise: heya
01:26:32 Devastator: Well, that'd be fine anyway.
01:26:34 ER: nineteen posts without boldtext *or* IC chatting...
01:26:38 Devastator: It would mean I wouldn't lose soul.
01:26:43 Devastator: we could do it IC, just add <>
01:26:50 Devastator: and be less precise.
01:28:03 ER: I gathered that PW, because the phantom kunai's desription says it's for upgrading the shuriken, and it says it belonged to madam butterfly, and it also mentions that her throwing knives leave behind a trail of butterflies.
01:28:10 ER: thaks for spelling it out though!
01:28:36 Devastator: Does it do that because it was hers?
01:28:47 Devastator: I mean, just because it was hers, or did she make it specifically to do that?
01:28:47 ER: sure?
01:29:00 ER: i unno magic or someshiz
01:29:08 Devastator: "And I'd like these knives to leave a trail of butterflies behind them."
01:31:10 Devastator: Or did they get butterflies because she owned them for too long?
01:34:58 Piecewise: I think it can release a butterfly swarm too
01:36:57 Devastator: hmm.
01:37:14 Devastator: I wonder if I can make a weapon release apes when it hits people.
01:38:33 ER: probably
01:38:54 Devastator: I somehow doubt it, if only because that would also imply I could make a stick that made people stronger when I whack them with it.
01:39:05 ER: I could probably make a sword that makes anything it hits lighter than air.
01:39:38 Devastator: I could see that happening as a one-off effect, but not something continual.
01:40:56 Devastator: Hmm, have to put temp-buffs on popsicle sticks like in Overlord.
01:40:58 Piecewise_ has joined #einsteinianroulette
01:41:16 Devastator: ..That'd probably be a decent idea, come to think of it.
01:41:32 Devastator: temp-buffs on something breakable. Might be better than the pill idea.
01:45:02 Piecewise has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
01:53:06 syv: Indeed. Popsicle stick buffs are a very good idea.
02:03:17 ER: hmm, sudden;y I have 3 skill points!
02:03:26 ER: maybe I should spend those or something
02:17:41 Devastator: Might do that, then. Although I'll investigate the pill idea for the need for mass buffs, as I'd like to make a pile of them that can be enlarged using expand. Popsicle sticks would be for like personal stuff.
02:29:30 ER: "recovers vitality upon performing a successful deathblow"
02:29:32 ER: !!!
02:29:48 Devastator: mmm.
02:29:57 ER: do want, yes, let me murder for health
02:30:22 syv: Yes, that one is amazing.
02:30:41 ER: costs five points though
02:35:39 syv: Amazing regardless.
02:57:48 syv: Huh. So I went back and did everything else *before* the boss fight I was having trouble with, got more heals and skillpoints and such, and when I came back I killed him on the first try without much difficulty. Samurai bro even survived, though he doesn't say much of anything despite typically lasting all of 20 seconds.
02:59:20 Devastator: bromurai.
02:59:32 Devastator: what type of samurai bro is he?
03:05:00 ER: a sigh of relief every single time unseen aid pops up
03:05:10 ER: thanks budda
03:05:23 syv: The stupid honor-and-death kind. Wears nothing more than a blue robe, charges in to fight ten guys (including a man the size of a shack), dies very quickly.
03:05:36 syv: I've only gotten it once, on my second death. -.-
03:06:19 ER: still haven't beaten the ogre or shinobi hunter
03:06:47 ER: and Jozu is a bit above that
03:07:03 Devastator: ..aren't you immortal in this game?
03:07:06 Devastator: Maybe that guy is too.
03:13:20 syv: No, I killed him.
03:13:39 syv: Ogre is hard, but right next to a sculpture, so.
03:14:27 syv: I mostly relied on throwing oil at him, dodging one of his attacks, then using fire from point blank. Wail on him for six strikes, then get away before he does his close grab.
03:14:42 syv: Sometimes he'll cower randomly, it's safe to hit a couple times after that.
03:19:32 syv: Oh, nice, after two entire areas, a boss, and five minibosses, the game tells me how damaging vitality slows posture recovery. A mechanic core to beating those six bosses.
03:19:51 ER: it told me at some point
03:20:06 ER: and it's one of the tutorials with undying
03:20:44 ER: available from basically the start of the game, I think it unlocks all those when you fight the general
03:22:28 syv: ...Huh.
03:22:33 syv: I haven't seen it before.
03:29:48 Devastator: heh.
03:30:01 Devastator: syv, more oblivious than dev.
03:30:49 syv: I went through his tutorials and read them, but none of them talked about how reducing vitality hurts posture regen,
03:31:04 syv: I wasn't oblivious, it didn't happen.
03:31:47 ER: Hirata enemies sure drop oil a lot. It's almost like a hint. :P
03:32:07 ER: it's literally called "vitality and posture"
03:37:49 syv: I found a consumable which causes you to gain a weak poisoned status effect, which makes you immune to OTHER poisons, DaS dung pies style. Unlike dung pies, this is apparently the actual purpose of the item.
03:38:11 ER: ha, cool
03:42:45 Devastator: nifty.
03:42:52 Devastator: wait dung pies aren't for that?
03:45:24 ER: Er is lucky
03:45:28 ER: very lucky
03:45:37 ER: unseen aid bby
03:45:55 syv: Dung pies are for killing things.
03:50:58 syv: ...Okay, so I hadn't done the basic "Hit him until he dies" training option, and therefore didn't unlock the advanced training options, which is where vitality and posture training is.
03:51:20 ER: yeah, of course
03:57:45 Devastator: Oh, Piecewise_, did you see yesterday's xkcd? It features Nevada.
03:58:05 Piecewise_: I did not
03:58:47 Devastator: https://xkcd.com/2126/
03:59:29 Devastator: And Florida, for that matter.
04:02:13 syv: Explainxkcd says that Florida would have a high rate of searches for "alligator" because of the Everglades. Which is just facepalm-inducing; a Floridian searches "alligator" because an alligator moved into a nearby pond.
04:04:15 Devastator: "Because there are a lot of alligators in Florida" isn't good enough, apparently.
04:04:52 Devastator: Sometimes people make metajokes.
04:07:05 Devastator: it also says 'is home to an obscene number of alligators.'
04:07:09 Devastator: Which is an interesting question.
04:07:29 Devastator: Is two hundred obscene?
04:07:33 Devastator: Ten thousand?
04:07:36 Devastator: Five million?
04:16:20 syv: ...
04:16:38 syv: Giant snake insta-murdered me for 1000 gold.
04:17:21 Devastator: Get a refund.
04:17:22 ER: oh, the vitality gained on deathblow is quite sizable too
04:20:57 Piecewise_: Which upgrade path is it for the vitality thing
04:21:03 Piecewise_: I've been specing ashina
04:21:33 ER: the fuck is an ashina
04:22:11 Piecewise_: the third upgrade path you get by talking to the tengu guy and killing the weird hat wearing people
04:22:23 Piecewise_: the midgets that vomit on you
04:22:54 syv: Killed me for 500 this time!
04:22:59 Piecewise_: it has a super powerful attack that restores posture
04:23:10 syv: Gwah.
04:23:23 Piecewise_: always buy the coin purses from merchants sy
04:23:28 Piecewise_: good way to bank gold
04:23:41 Piecewise_: also dev, that xkcd surprises me not at all
04:23:45 syv: Yeah, was just gonna do that with my remaining 500.
04:24:17 Devastator: Yes.
04:24:19 syv: ...He's put.
04:24:23 syv: *out
04:24:30 syv: No more bags of gold left.
04:24:33 Piecewise_: get rekt
04:24:36 Devastator: No suprise either.
04:24:45 Piecewise_: go spend it on upgrades or something
04:24:49 Devastator: I don't think British Columbia has ever featured in an XKCD.
04:24:54 Piecewise_: because snake is a pretty unforgiving section
04:25:13 Piecewise_: and the main boss for that level is just past the snake
04:25:20 Piecewise_: so prepare to lose that shit
04:25:29 Devastator: snake.
04:25:35 Piecewise_: Snek
04:25:51 Devastator: Snake snek.
04:26:02 Devastator: You think you'll be up for more overlord tomorrow?
04:26:07 syv: I have 463 silver bullets now.
04:26:23 ER: good job
04:28:47 syv: This snek *is* pretty awesome.
04:29:36 syv: Very snoot, much jowl. One of the better sneks I'd seen in a vidya gaem.
04:30:14 Devastator: searching shows that the Great Bear Rainforest was mentioned once, but in a context that makes no sense.
04:30:27 ER: I fear that I'm going on tilt
04:30:33 Devastator: You don't make desks out of redwoods.
04:30:34 ER: maybe should put this away
04:31:43 syv: ...Huh, that was all there was to Snek?
04:31:56 syv: That wasn't hard at all.
04:44:12 Devastator: What was the trick?
04:44:18 Devastator: Did you get snake trapped in a dead-end?
05:23:34 ER: I sm not good enough at game to manage this just now
05:27:22 syv: Which enemy?
05:27:32 ER: all of them
05:27:43 syv: Sleep.
05:27:49 ER: yeah
05:28:24 ER: ended up just grinding money till I could get the phantom kunai
05:28:31 ER: spoiler: I can't use it yet
05:28:35 ER: but I have it!
05:30:32 ER: at least I can take on a basically arbatrary number of cheap trash enemies now. If I don't underestimate them. 'o_o
05:30:36 syv: ...Well, guess I definitely won't be grinding it. Kinda already gave up after Snek ate 1500 gold, but yeah...
05:30:40 syv: Ehat do you need?
05:30:49 ER: no idea!
05:31:06 syv: ...Hrm.
05:31:17 ER: no option with the sculptor, and that's just about all I know exists
05:31:51 Devastator: block?
05:31:54 Devastator: Does that work?
05:32:14 ER: blocking exists :P
05:35:48 syv: Oh, I got unseen aid for the second time ever, when I don't even have anything of value.
05:36:13 ER: yeah I must have gotten it at least five times by now
05:59:55 syv: Gaaaah more rot
06:00:02 syv: I am still just a puppy. ,_.
06:00:36 ER: gotta strategically sleep on it to minimized rot. :D
06:04:27 syv: I wanna kill Butterfly!
06:07:23 Devastator: Moonlight Butterfly?
06:14:58 syv: I really hate how if your guard is broken, or if you try to block but get interrupted, you have to release and press block again to get it back.
06:16:07 Piecewise_: Two things you should know
06:16:24 Piecewise_: 1. Curing the dragon rot cures it on the people effected forever
06:16:33 ER: oh, forever?
06:16:38 Piecewise_: and seems to stop the other npcs you've met from gettting it
06:16:49 Piecewise_: however, if you meet new npcs, they can get it
06:17:03 Piecewise_: so purge it after major bosses
06:17:32 ER: is it possible for the sculptor to die and screw you out of getting any new prosthetics?
06:17:37 Piecewise_: 2. if you were talking about the butterfly kunai tool, its an upgrade of the shuriken not its own thing really.
06:17:57 Piecewise_: I don't think so? You just can't complete quests for them I think
06:18:05 Piecewise_: I haven't let it get bad though
06:18:21 Piecewise_: NIGHT
06:18:25 Devastator: see ya.
06:18:29 Piecewise_ is now known as PIECEWISESLEEPWISE
06:18:35 Devastator: bah.
06:18:38 Devastator: ;-p
06:24:01 PIECEWISESLEEPWISE has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
06:25:34 ER: someday I'll git gud and beat these enemies
06:25:38 ER: some day
06:26:43 Devastator: Heh.
06:35:07 syv: Third unseen aid! (I have nothing to save at all)
06:35:15 syv: Butterfly is crazy...
06:36:14 ER: ...still forgotten to use any of the buff items for tough fights. hrmm
06:37:09 ER: should probably nom a red candy before fighting the ogre
06:39:04 syv: Fourth unseen aid!
06:39:16 syv: That's good advice, red candy...
06:39:44 ER: it's like a bootleg power within!
06:40:11 ER: or I dunno, lightning sword glue or whatever
06:44:46 syv: Nope, not good enough. Close though.
06:44:49 syv: Fifth unseen aid.
07:00:19 syv: Thing I dislike: Blocking and parrying are intrinsically different actions with their own purposes, but are bound to the same key, with the difference being timing. If you block something on reaction, you actually parry it, which is normally a good thing. Against bosses, it's bad, because a single parry is of little value, but instantly removing any ending lag on an attack is very very dangerous.
07:00:59 syv: Then again, it could be argued that this makes sense in a way; if you're slow to block, they aren't stunned and can chain.
07:01:12 ER: if you hold block you regain posture faster
07:01:18 syv: Yes. I know.
07:01:39 ER: I'm just going to be the loading screen
07:01:51 syv: Helpful.
07:02:09 ER: did you know that you can press r2 to use your shinobi prosthetic
07:02:26 ER: 'tis weak to fire, arisen
07:03:41 syv: ...I should use the prosthetic more against her.
07:04:29 ER: just mash all the buttons, that way you're not forgetting to use anything
07:11:40 syv: Heh.
07:29:25 syv: Sixth Unseen Aid.
07:39:12 ER has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
08:04:17 syv: ...Seventh.
08:04:29 syv: The last six have all been for Lady Butterfly.
08:04:44 syv: I should probably stop and go to sleep. ._.
08:04:47 Devastator: Heh.
08:04:52 Devastator: well, I don't have anywhere to go.
08:04:55 Devastator: no worries, mate.
08:04:57 syv: Night, Dev.
08:05:02 Devastator: night syv.
08:05:07 syv has quit [Quit: Definitely a psyv.]
14:39:17 PIECEWISESLEEPWISE has joined #einsteinianroulette

16:08:47 Devastator: Sleep wise?
16:09:57 PIECEWISESLEEPWISE is now known as piecewise
16:10:02 piecewise: hello
16:10:12 piecewise: not asleep, but ninjaing
16:13:34 Devastator: ninja ninja?
16:15:06 piecewise: well
16:15:08 piecewise: shinobi
16:15:13 piecewise: about to fight a boss
16:19:02 Devastator: what's it look liike?
16:35:02 piecewise: a samurai general who becomes a lightning mage
16:35:09 piecewise: weeeeebs
16:35:34 Devastator: Does he have a demon mask?
16:44:21 piecewise: no
16:51:14 Devastator: aww
16:51:29 Devastator: what kind of weeabo lightning samurai general doesn't have a demon mask?
16:58:12 piecewise: I mean
16:58:20 piecewise: I've found people with tengu masks
16:58:28 piecewise: like that clip I posted on here before
16:58:31 piecewise: the NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOW
16:58:33 piecewise: guy
17:00:06 Devastator: oh, fair enough.
17:00:19 Devastator: this guy just has a different form of weeabo personal style. ;-p
17:27:43 piecewise: *Teleports behind you*
17:28:49 Devastator: pop.
18:43:09 Devastator: glad ninja game is so good.
20:16:39 Devastator: "he was greatly heartened when the court granted to him the use of 300 crack troops from the capital as his personal contingent. Unfortunately this changed to despair when he discovered that the so-called crack troops consisted of a motley crew of new recruits, lowly government administrators and yangban students for the civil examinations who turned up with their books in their hands."
20:16:48 Devastator: Also, those probably were the crack troops.
20:23:34 Devastator: ..Wow.
20:23:39 Devastator: I need facepalm .gifs.
20:23:43 Devastator: it just keeps getting worse.
20:25:13 Devastator: You know what would be the best plan? For me to take my small army out of this well fortified and important mountain pass, down onto the flat ground, and set up camp for my cavalry between two branches of a river, on a small wooded hill above a mass of flooded rice fields.
20:27:14 Devastator: Even worse he didn't even take them down forwards. He took them down backwards, forcing the attackers to occupy the undefended fort and cross the pass first before giving them plenty of room to spread out.
20:38:10 Devastator: On the other hand, it's somewhat hilarious figuring out how angry Katō Kiyomasa must have been, due to always being second man behind his arch-rival to everywhere he went, and after he's allowed to go first, running headfirst into a river and sitting for a month.

20:57:48 syv: Heya dev.
20:58:47 syv: Eigth unseen aid. Seventh on Lady Butterfly. I should really stop fighting her but... guh,
21:01:00 Devastator: Heh.
21:01:17 Devastator: I'll do orders for Alida tomorrow.

21:28:54 syv: ...Okay, cats.
21:29:10 syv: Cool.
21:33:49 Devastator: ER may have acquired kittens.
21:48:52 ER has joined #einsteinianroulette
21:49:19 ER: kittens were indeed aquired
21:54:27 Devastator: Heh.
21:54:41 Devastator: How are they working out?
21:55:10 ER: well, as you can see one of them managed to jump into the ceiling.
21:55:25 ER: Thanksfully we got her back down from ther
21:56:35 syv: :(
21:57:15 Devastator: What's wrong with cats jumping into the ceiling?
21:57:35 syv: Managed to beat Butterfly's first phase flawlessly, without using any silver bullets or other items. Second phase, got her to the point where her poise wasn't even regenerating, but just couldn't last long enough to beat her.
21:58:19 Devastator: ...
21:58:21 Devastator: aww.
21:58:26 ER: seemed to be a place she could get to, but not a place she could get BACK from
21:58:47 Devastator: .. but cats can jump downwards. Kitten not know that yet?
21:59:03 syv: It's completely unfair that she gets unblockable damage, which often is mistimed with her actual attacks so that it's not really dodgeable either. And without consuming snap seeds (which I have two left), there's periodic sections where I just have to focus on not getting hit for a long time, just waiting for her to regen poise and despawn the adds.
21:59:24 syv: At least Wolf sprints like mad, so that's not very difficult, but it takes awhile.
21:59:29 Devastator: Hmm.
21:59:43 syv: Yes Dev. Some cats are afraid of heights and don't realize how far they can fall.
21:59:45 Devastator: Would trying to deal more damage help?
22:00:03 ER: it was also just an akward spot overall
22:00:35 syv: Not really. I'm already to the point where I can go full aggro from the start and crit her around ~50% HP, without taking damage myself.
22:00:43 Devastator: mmm.
22:01:04 ER: the way she got up there was by standing on a tiny ledge on the wall. To get back down she'd have to either land there, on the stove, or go between them to land on the floor.
22:01:09 syv: The problem is that it's *required* to stay on her when going for that, and there's long segments where getting near her is suicide in the second stage, so she gets to regen poise.
22:01:15 syv: And she has just a ton of HP.
22:02:02 Devastator: mmm.
22:02:09 Devastator: ahh.
22:02:15 Devastator: maybe open another panel somewhere else?
22:02:21 Devastator: where there's a clear route to the floor?
22:03:11 Devastator: you're fine.
22:03:16 Devastator: I shouldn't say stuff like that.
22:03:23 ER: it's not a drop ceiling, just a ceiling which happens to have a big hole in it
22:03:27 Devastator: Ahh.
22:03:37 ER: opening another hole would likely involve a saw
22:03:37 Devastator: no wonder the cat wanted to go there then.
22:10:46 syv: Another annoyance: the unblockable butterflies are dodgeable sometimes, but dodging breaks your guard and your char won't resume blocking until you release and press block again. Since the model doesn't really change that much, and I'm looking at other things, this means sometimes I'll forget that I'm not blocking and just eat a combo. Admittedly, this is less a flaw with Sekiro and more muscle memory from DaS making me track blocking purely by w
22:11:46 syv: I really think I'm just bashing my head against the catacombs right now, but gah that just makes me want to kill her even more.
22:12:18 ER: bash bash bash
22:12:25 ER: you slept on it yet?
22:13:28 syv: Considering I started this fight seventeen(?) hours ago, yes.
22:14:08 syv: I'd hope that I can't spend seventeen hours on it. I don't think I've even had any challenge runs in DaS that difficult.
22:14:13 Devastator: Heh.
22:14:19 Devastator: 17 hours on the fight, go for it.
22:14:29 Devastator: Cly you just need to do it one-handed or no blocking or something.
22:17:34 syv: I've never done a one handed challenge.
22:18:04 syv: I have tried applying some of that thought to it, though. That's how I realized just sprinting was the best way to deal with the adds.
22:18:16 syv: Sprinting is just really powerful in Fromsoft games.
22:18:26 Devastator: speed kills.
22:21:53 syv: Ninth UA...
22:23:27 syv: Her aeriel grab is also janky. About 20% of the time I don't dodge it, and I'm just not sure why. Positionally dodging is risky without jumping, which makes it very difficult to counter, while i-frames don't *seeem* to work on it? Maybe I should just jump for all counter moves, since I do have trouble with her sweep.
22:27:19 Devastator: What does a UA do for you?
22:35:33 syv: FINALLY
22:36:16 syv: Killed her. The answer was being more jumpy; it reliably dodges her aerial grab, her sweep, and surprisingly, her uncounterable butterfly spam combo, and without maxing out my posture meter.
22:36:18 Devastator: the bug is dead?
22:36:32 syv: Used three pellets and finished with low HP, but still.
22:36:54 syv: Apparently this was a "Shinobi Execution", which I haven't gotten before, and gives me a permanent damage buff.
22:37:04 syv: Butterfly is dead.
22:37:36 syv: AND an additional resurrection! Score!
22:37:51 syv: Totally worth it.
22:40:39 Devastator: well, that's neat.
22:40:44 Devastator: whatever a Shinobi execution is.
22:41:07 ER: welp
22:41:11 ER: and I beat orge
22:41:13 syv: Oh, Unseen Assistance means you lose nothing on death. It's completely random and has a low chance, which gets lower the more you die.
22:41:47 Devastator: Heh.
22:41:49 Devastator: Ahh.
22:41:53 Devastator: ahh, OCR.
22:41:57 syv: It has been entirely worthless for me, as the seven procs against butterfly were while I had nothing to lose, and the first one was before I realized I could loot money or had the ability to level up.
22:42:09 ER: came very close to dying just beating the ogre, but I did it
22:42:16 Devastator: A common name is Wŏn. won, the word, is often falsly OCRed into Wŏn.
22:42:19 Devastator: Wow.
22:42:57 piecewise: Unfortunately you can't use that resurrection thing until later
22:44:22 piecewise: need to find a certain character
22:44:33 Devastator: hmm.
22:45:28 ER: finally, found the monocular :P
22:45:41 piecewise: its right after the orge
22:46:15 piecewise: You unlock a skill set for unarmed combat later
22:46:27 syv: Mm, found the firecrackers that are meant to be used against the cavalryman I already killed.
22:46:30 piecewise: well, not unarmed but you mix in punches and strikes and stuff
22:46:33 Devastator: Unarmed combat?
22:46:41 ER: thank you from, another gourd seed
22:46:45 Devastator: Even the monks in Japan were big on weapons.
22:47:06 piecewise: I mean, the monks I got it from could deflect swords with bare hands so
22:47:21 piecewise: they also had homing explosives so fuck if I know
22:47:58 piecewise: Also killed undying training guy, since he asked me to
22:51:27 Devastator: not very undying he was.
22:51:37 ER: ...
22:51:43 ER: still pretty undying
22:54:27 Devastator: could he take more stabs than the firekeeper in DS III?
22:56:07 ER: the same number, really
22:56:17 ER: though he gets up a lot faster
23:05:42 ER: alright, took down the next general as well
23:05:57 ER: ez game~
23:12:46 syv: Apparently dogs can run off cliffs. They charged at me, I jumped, they both sailed over the edge and died.
23:16:59 Devastator: Of course dogs can run off cliffs!
23:17:16 ER: snek angry

23:35:11 Devastator: Oh man, these peace negotiations are amazing.
23:35:37 Devastator: Basically the ambassadors rewrote everyone's letters and promised both sides exactly what they wanted.
23:37:43 Devastator: It literally continued until Hideyosi was in a room, all dressed up in his kit, surrounded by a dozen top gnerals also all dressed up, and he asked his diplomatic expert, Saishō Shōtai, to read aloud in translation the document of investiture from the Ming Emperor.

23:39:17 Devastator: Heya MJ.
23:39:23 midnightjaguar: Ello dev
23:39:36 midnightjaguar: How you been?
23:39:51 Devastator: Reading Turnbull's book in the Imjin war.
23:39:55 Devastator: and doing okay, thank you.
23:40:02 ER: NINJA
23:40:05 Devastator: Not much to talk about, everyone here playing some samurai game.
23:40:10 Devastator: ;-p
23:40:10 midnightjaguar: Ah
23:40:14 ER: much fun
23:40:20 Devastator: such wow.
23:40:43 syv: Tenth unseen aid, first death since butterfly, and the first time it's been useful!
23:40:47 syv: Thanks, Obama.
23:40:52 midnightjaguar: Yes DS Japanese edition does sound fun
23:41:15 syv: ...You do realize DaS is a Japanese game, yeah?
23:41:21 midnightjaguar: I do indeed
23:41:31 ER: ULTRA JAPAN EDITION
23:41:32 midnightjaguar: Was just a bad joke
23:41:49 Devastator: seems accurate.
23:41:52 Devastator: double japan edition.
23:41:55 ER: I'm about to fight first proper boss.
23:42:03 ER: guy on horse
23:42:23 Devastator: Also, apparently gryphon is the size of a small shetland pony or really big dog.
23:42:26 midnightjaguar: That’s mildly disappointing as Dark souls bosses go :P
23:42:30 syv: He's pretty easy.
23:42:36 Devastator: ..Did anyone actually get a horse?
23:42:37 syv: Remember to jump, and to block.
23:42:40 Devastator: I don't remember anyone on a horse.
23:42:47 syv: Only in DaS 2.
23:42:52 Devastator: Huh.
23:42:54 syv: And it was more that the horse got a rider.
23:43:09 Devastator: and Mr. King.
23:43:25 midnightjaguar: Does Fire Spider lady count?
23:44:05 ER: oh yeah, should make sure to equip my fireworks for him.
23:44:32 ER: not sure if fire or axe will be useful for that fight, so might just set two to make it easier to swap back and forth
23:45:00 syv: Neither will be, shuriken is decent though.
23:45:06 syv: Shuriken is always nice, really.
23:45:18 ER: yeah
23:45:45 ER: it's your bread and butter of prosthetic tools
23:46:48 midnightjaguar: Prosthetic tools?
23:47:05 ER: a fitting fang for a one armed wolf
23:49:24 piecewise: HA
23:49:44 ER: the castle gate remains closed
23:50:03 piecewise: I've beat the boss of that castle
23:50:09 piecewise: was pretty fun
23:52:29 syv: Jeez that bull was a frantic fight. Two deaths.
23:53:34 ER: close that time
23:55:48 syv: ...Hey, Piecewise, where do you find the eavesdrop that the merchant is asking for? The guy that wants to know what Ashina samurai want?
23:59:38 ER: I'm getting worse at fighting goubu
