04:17:25 syv has joined #einsteinianroulette
04:32:14 syv coughs quietly
04:32:26 ER: bepp
04:32:46 ER: https://youtu.be/4j3Ji2hJYX0
04:33:36 syv: No videos. :(
04:33:55 ER: the art on that is hilarious, because everything is realistic and consistant except for her face, which is ANIME.
04:34:19 ER: (is just a song mix with a background)
04:35:06 syv: ...It's an hour long.
04:35:23 ER: multiple songs
04:36:01 ER: plenty of videos are hours long. twitch stream recordings tend to be like 3 hours
04:37:37 syv: The only streamer videos I watch are LobosJR vids, and even then, generally only at work when I don't have anything better to aside from *think about* playing DaS.
04:39:12 syv: Speaking of, I finally beat Scorched Contract.
04:39:15 ER: they need to make DS for mobile phone~
04:39:19 ER: nice.
04:40:33 syv: Gwyn was a major roadblock for me. 178 deaths in the Kiln total. Which happened to be precisely equal to the number of deaths I had in the entire playthrough before the Kiln.
04:40:56 ER: ouch
04:41:38 syv: I was trying to fight Gwyn with a fire butcher knife.
04:42:30 syv: Not actually a terrible choice, but it couldn't oneshot BKs, and when I swapped to a normal server (and waited for physical pixies), things got MUCH easier.
04:43:01 ER: server, batter
04:43:24 syv: Only needed six(?) ripostes, plus some well-timed hits, and it could stagger him on every other hit.
04:46:51 syv: Also! I think I figured out how to positionally dodge Gwyn's attacks for the SL1 no roll/block challenge.
05:02:56 ER: hmm
05:03:26 ER: you know, one thing that makes DS good is that it's ACTUALLY both an RPG and an Action game.
05:03:55 ER: Not an Action game with "RPG elements", or an RPG with "Action elements"
05:05:10 ER: The way you level up and what weapons you use and what kind of spells you use all have a tangible effect on what playing the game is like.
05:05:44 ER: But at the same time, your skill at fighting is one of the most important things determining if you win or lose.
05:07:10 syv: Skill based, but with relevant stats.
05:07:14 ER: Plenty of action games just throw you a halfhearted skill tree to make you feel like you're making some form of progress. None of it matters much and by the end of the game you have everything.
05:08:31 ER: And then I discovered Tales of Berseria, which is an RPG that dresses itself up like combos and blocking and dodging are going to be important, but... they're not. What's important is how well leveled you are.
05:10:00 syv: Also, DaS is genuinely fairly difficult.
05:10:12 ER: That's why I can jump into Dark Souls, a game that I've put hours an hours into, and still have fun. I can start a new character and both be doing something NEW, and enjoy the timeless pleasure of stabbing hollows and dodging attacks.
05:10:18 syv: It's not super hard, but it doesn't hold your hand and a lot of people find it too hard.
05:10:49 syv: Unlike many games, where if you get the basic mechanics and have the time, you'll complete it easily.
05:11:08 ER: ...I think it's easy to take for granted just how low the videogame skill floor goes.
05:12:24 syv: I remember finding Halo on Normal difficult when I was a kid.
05:12:42 ER: I'm sure there's people out there who, when presented with the very start of mario 64, panic, mash the controls wildly, jump into the moat and drown.
05:24:17 syv: ...Wait, you can swim in that game. And it takes forever to drown. And not drowning is utterly trivial.
05:24:31 syv: Yet, I can't bring myself to say that you're wrong.
05:31:55 ER: it's a game where one of the first levels is almost exclusively underwater, yes.
05:32:46 ER: ...also, your life bar and air bar are the same thing, so swimming on the surface of the water will fully heal you.
05:33:13 syv: Wait, really?
05:33:29 syv: I had no idea, though I played that game a ton when young.
05:33:39 syv: ...And have watched a lot of pannenkoek.
05:34:49 ER: uhhhhh. that's how I remember it. It may have been like fiiiiive? years since I've played it.
05:35:29 syv: I think it's been over a decade for me...
05:36:55 ER: I have played the game at some point after I turned 11 so that means I win!
05:37:14 ER: unless I've truly lost track of time, which is possible.
05:37:40 ER: stuff never made sense to me in the first place. It's like space but not! what!
05:38:22 ER: what's it do? just changes things? but space changes things too. But it's not space.
05:38:42 syv: How'd Albeom coming?
05:39:17 ER: I am not currently writing it. How judgemental is your current expression.
05:39:29 ER: I need to feel it
05:42:37 syv: I'm currently struggling to write 20% of a PS update which is two days late.
05:42:43 syv: I pass no judgement.
05:42:50 ER: aw
05:44:16 ER: late already? *checks* oh yeah, you said you'd finish Alida "tomorrow"
05:45:10 ER: that was foolish, it's impossible to update something on two consecutive days unless you're a superhuman being like PW~
05:45:49 ER: Surprised that nobody's actioned yet. Do they all think that Alida's bit will be strategically relevant?
05:48:19 syv: Eh. Decaying interest.
05:49:06 ER: my interest is cursed to never decay till Sophia sees light of day.
05:49:59 ER: so keep going... lest I whine at ye
05:52:23 syv: Meh, I think Alida's done.
05:52:34 syv: No Sophia tonight, because I am very tired.
05:53:03 syv: I hate this update already, it's clearly empty work that only exists because it must. Oh well.
05:53:40 ER: all work exists because it must. otherwise it wouldn't!
05:54:15 ER: believing in determinism makes everything so simple, honestly~
06:05:38 syv: My belief in determinism typically comes alongside depression and attempting to sleep >20 hours in a day.
06:07:29 ER: my depression doesn't really have any particular philosophy, just ughhh let's not do anything today
06:09:09 syv: :(
06:10:16 syv: It's colder than 60° F right now.
06:10:26 syv: This is horrible.
06:11:09 ER: when I really think of it, I'm just a small element of a massive earthly cycle of life and death, growth and decay, roiling change. I'll play out a small part of that and then die forever having accomplished nothing lasting. It's pretty rad!
06:12:04 ER: Life is a good thing, even though it's unerringly horrible. Better to have been part of it than not.
06:12:54 syv: Your superficial optimism makes my eyes roll.
06:14:47 ER: it doesn't matter, we'll both be dead forever soon~
07:38:56 ER: oh, update
07:38:57 ER: neat
07:55:11 Devastator: 'lo
07:55:17 Devastator: heya syv, ER.
07:55:20 Devastator: decaying interest?
07:55:36 syv: heya dev, ER.
07:56:07 Devastator: RGU figure out what a [kitten] is yet?
07:58:14 Devastator: Heh.
08:00:47 Devastator: I was wondering if you'd ask that question in the SG.
08:01:18 ER: magic transformations, man
08:02:03 ER: "you can turn into anything you like so long as you've seen a similar creature before and it's not too big or small"
08:02:42 ER: That becomes some stupid powerful stuff if that includes magical creatures.
08:03:08 ER: I'm mostly asking so that he'll say no and I can know for sure what our limits are. :P
08:03:25 Devastator: He'll probably say yes to at least some of it.
08:03:59 ER: because as-stated, that lets us just... turn into every other flavor of dragon, making shapeshifter the best boon ever ever ever
08:04:34 Devastator: Yes.
08:05:19 Devastator: When isn't it, really?
08:05:52 Devastator: 'young adult dragon.'
08:05:58 Devastator: was looking for that.
08:07:52 ER: ida gone for a dragoness, but yeah that might not be optimal
08:08:05 Devastator: Another problem that can be solved through shapeshifting.
08:08:40 ER: Hm. That. Might work?
08:16:47 syv: What game is this?
08:16:59 ER: dragon lord's flight
08:17:40 syv: Sounds like me ten years ago.
08:18:00 syv: Is it munchkinnable?
08:18:15 ER: tl;dr: you're a dragon, dwarven empire is killing all the dragons and also taking over the world, you grab a few populations of puny mortals and go on ships to colonize a distant land.
08:19:21 Devastator: Seems intended for fairly slow, strategic play.
08:19:26 Devastator: ER's turned it into a dungeon crawl.
08:19:38 ER: We picked a male purple dragon, which breaths negative energy and empowers spellcasters around him. And we're a shapeshifter, which among many other things lets us make half dragon babies with people.
08:20:06 ER: Hey, it wasn't ALL my fault.
08:20:46 ER: The people we brought along were a bunch of stuck up high elves with lots of magic, tieflings, and merfolk slaves.
08:20:48 syv: Hmm.
08:20:57 syv: SG, so kinda political, I assume?
08:21:04 ER: kinda.
08:21:44 ER: We are planning to marry the high elf princess because she can boss around the other elves.
08:21:46 Devastator: Presumably.
08:21:54 Devastator: and apparently really wants dragon babies.
08:22:03 ER: Apparently.
08:22:08 Devastator: Should try for the high score there. ;-p
08:22:17 syv: -.-
08:22:20 ER: I agree.
08:22:40 syv: Why can't people keep their weird fantasies to the weird fantasy sites.
08:23:03 Devastator: Heh.
08:23:14 ER: tis a valid strategical choice, mine fam! Totally.
08:24:07 ER: also dragons are horny and if your lore disagrees you have bad lore. Because half dragons are awesome and it's also kinda hilarious.
08:24:53 Devastator: That's probably true, although everything mentioned about high elves seems designed around not actually having babies, just decade-long courtships that may, just possibly, result in one.
08:25:11 Devastator: Which does make sense when talkign about immortals.
08:25:18 syv: Half dragon dogs. Half dragon cats. Half dragon griffons. Just have a civilization, ruled by one elder male dragon, which has hybridized EVERY domestic species with dragons.
08:25:52 Devastator: Isn't that normal D&D?
08:25:53 ER: those wacky dragons! screwing anything that lives.
08:26:07 syv: Half-dragon treants.
08:26:33 Devastator: Probably.
08:26:37 syv: Half-dragon tardigrades.
08:26:47 syv: Half-dragon amoeba.
08:26:52 Devastator: Although I suspect the princess's ardour may diminish if she lays an egg.
08:26:54 syv: Half-dragon ants.
08:27:07 Devastator: I think GM said 'nothing too small.'
08:27:14 ER: "too small" does imply we can't turn into insects.
08:27:27 syv: It doesn't state it explicitly, though.
08:27:38 syv: If you can turn into a mouse, you can turn into a spider.
08:27:46 syv: Half-dragon tarantula.
08:27:50 Devastator: well, we buff spellcasters. Have spellcaster cast 'reduce', shapeshift, have another one cast 'reduce', shapeshift again..
08:27:52 syv: Half-dragon amblypygid.
08:27:57 Devastator: I'm sure if it's attempted it can be done.
08:28:10 ER: Yeah, I was a little frustrated that the final answer to "what are the constraints on this" was so... vague.
08:28:23 ER: "not too small or too big" and that's it
08:28:29 syv: Half-dragon monitor lizard.
08:28:32 syv: You know.
08:28:43 syv: Why aren't there half gold silver dragons?
08:28:47 ER: I did just ask about turning into tarantula.
08:29:00 syv: There's half dragons of everything, but no mix breed dragons.
08:29:26 ER: maybe they hate each other
08:29:26 syv: So dragons fuck everything, except dragons which are different kinds of dragons.
08:29:27 Devastator: Oh, cats are already confirmed, syv.
08:29:47 Devastator: so half-dragon kitties are possible.
08:30:14 syv: If that actually occurs it'll be a travesty.
08:30:32 Devastator: I doubt it will.
08:31:48 ER: Someone might object to making love to animals, despite us being an explicitly evil chromatic dragon
08:33:08 Devastator: I'm sure someone would object to eating animals despite being a very large carnivore.
08:33:17 ER: I mean, trying to optimize for high score on half dragons already makes me a little nervous, because one of the minion races we brought along are our slaves.
08:34:20 ER: optimal might be uncomfortable.
08:35:32 syv: Optimal succubus play.
08:35:53 Devastator: I was more suspecting only going for the high score from the princess. We have a couple of rapid breeding species as followers already. So only breed with the species that doesn't breed.
08:36:35 ER: going for high score with the slow maturing elves sounds sub-optimal
08:36:56 Devastator: It means that we can have two fast-breeding species and a species of half-dragon elves.
08:38:03 Devastator: The goal would be to supplant the high elves.
08:38:09 ER: half dragon elves is a like, "in 300 years" sort of thing
08:38:19 Devastator: Well, yes. What did you have in mind?
08:38:26 ER: by then we might have a decent pop
08:42:33 Devastator: Also, going to have to spread it around to more than just the one elf, if we're going to replace the entire species.
08:43:22 Devastator: I recommend doubling the number of mates each breeding cycle.
08:44:05 ER: does sound like elven culture won't take issue with mating with more than one elf even if we get married, so that's good.
08:47:00 Devastator: Just have to rewrite the rules for our elven society.
08:58:22 syv has quit [Quit: Definitely a psyv.]
09:01:14 Devastator: well, update is good.
09:01:31 Devastator: I'll think about what to do next and what to respond to syv's request.
09:08:26 Devastator: An alternative high score: Maximum size. ;-p
09:08:58 ER: not convinced that that's negociable.
09:09:44 ER: If I were GM, size constraints would be absolute and not modified by size-changing magic.
09:10:21 Devastator: Doesn't need to be size-changing magic.
09:10:29 Devastator: being a dragon, aging magic would work as well.
09:10:54 ER: If you get enlarged past your normal limit by someone else's magic, you can still transform into the same things as normal and if you do, the spell ends.
09:12:40 Devastator: aww.
09:12:50 Devastator: well, get the spell permanancied then.
09:13:26 ER: Then you can't use those nice transforming powers any more, unless you want to cast the spell over again.
09:14:12 Devastator: Hmm.
09:14:26 Devastator: so any kind of magic that does stuff which doesn't change your size is okay?
09:14:44 ER: what?
09:17:15 Devastator: well, if it changes your size indirectly, like letting you absorb material into your body, would that be okay?
09:17:55 ER: what does "okay" mean?
09:18:18 ER: It's not going to magically change what shapeshifter does, if that's what you mean.
09:21:37 Devastator: eh, it's magic. Should be able to push the lmiits on it.
09:21:58 ER: eh
09:23:53 Devastator: well, you're the one in it, so pick your goal.
09:24:06 Devastator: be it to bone as many people, creatures, animals and objects as possible, or whatever.
09:24:30 ER: that and treasure, pretty much
09:24:48 ER: ...do have to think about politic some, though
09:25:16 Devastator: Acquiring treasure works too.
09:25:28 ER: because we happen to have surrounded ourselves with people who will not not stab us in the back for profit
09:25:45 Devastator: I can think of some settings where the size of a dragon is directly related to the size of the loot pile.
09:26:58 Devastator: in general.
09:27:07 Devastator: although the other people with us are pretty chill so far.
09:27:31 Devastator: coming back with loot, feeding them, and not killing them all is pretty much all you need to do in this sort of setting.
09:27:46 Devastator: they might want to cause problems, but it's somewhat difficult to assassinate a dragon.
09:28:19 ER: difficult until it's not, that is
09:29:05 ER: sure, a ballista isn't a SMALL thing, but it's possible for one to go unnoticed for long enough to shoot down glorious leader
09:29:11 Devastator: It's not going to get easier to assassinate a dragon over time.
09:29:20 ER: yes it will
09:29:29 Devastator: Hmm?
09:29:31 Devastator: What do you mean?
09:29:52 ER: more industry, more places to hide things, closer empire
09:30:06 ER: the world does in fact out scale us
09:31:57 Devastator: I don't know.
09:32:05 Devastator: The world is bigger than just things controlled by us.
09:32:35 Devastator: I mean, it's certainly possible that we'll get more likely to be assassinated, simply due to the change in the ratio of interal enemies to external enemies.
09:32:46 Devastator: but for an individual assassination, that isn't going to get easier over time.
09:33:28 ER: we will inevitably gain many many more enemies of all types.
09:33:52 ER: Our holdings will inevitably become more powerful, and less under our control
09:35:10 Devastator: That's true, but if you're worried about that we need to increase our personal power along with the power of our demsene.
09:36:06 ER: That's possible, but diminishing returns. There's a limited amount of personal power that you can get on top of being an adult dragon.
09:36:45 ER: And I imagine that a lot of it won't help us take an imperial ballista bolt from ambush.
09:37:15 Devastator: That should be doable, actually.
09:37:44 ER: So in the end, we do rely somewhat on allies, because if we ignore the people who like us and piss everyone off, we will just die.
09:37:53 Devastator: "These bracers grant you the benefit of the Deflect Arrows feat."
09:38:01 Devastator: But yes, I do agree with that.
09:38:34 Devastator: At the same time, I can think of lots of ways to improve the capabilities of an adult dragon, even beyond the point where it's normally diminishing.
09:40:39 Devastator: ..kinda been thinking about kitting out giant flying creatures for a while, after all.
09:42:19 Devastator: Also, magic item crafters are likely to be mages, and thus boosted from the aura.
09:42:41 Devastator: so we should be able to get the best stuff.
09:47:33 Devastator: We could also pull a Sauron.
09:47:45 Devastator: key the power of our allies to our own power.
09:48:20 ER: because that ended great for him
09:58:02 Devastator: Hey, we are evil..
09:58:09 Devastator: and he didn't get backstabbed by his own side.
10:19:17 Devastator: deadlocked in driderverse.
10:19:38 Devastator: I'll change to your option, as long as we take out the bad guy next update.
10:19:41 Devastator: you okay with that?
10:20:38 ER: if you like
10:36:20 Devastator: oh well.
10:36:29 Devastator: we'll probably set off the cult doomsday machine and destroy everything.
10:52:03 Devastator: Huh, there is now a battlescape mode for CS.
