ERLOG 2018-10-24

The below can be used to save the settings to a file or load them from a file. Useful if you want to transfer the settings between devices or feel better editing the settings by hand. Settings are stored as a cookie in your browser.
The below is a unique name for your settings. If you update your settings on one device, all other devices with the same name should be updated. This is done by checking if the stored cookie has an update date later than your current cookie. 14:52:04 er: The way that 888 works is kinda dumb, and what I'm proposing is just a slight variation on it and is therefore dumb as well.
14:53:58 er: The way skills work in 888 is that +1 transforms your 4 into a 5, a +2 transforms your 3 and 4 into 5, and a +3 turns your 2, 3, and 4 into 5.
14:55:35 er: Going from 0 to 1 costs 100 xp, so you're paying 100 xp to make your successes slightly better.
14:56:57 er: Going from 1 to 2 costs 200, which means paying 200 for a real improvement, making the almost-success of a 3 into an actual success.
14:58:25 er: And going from 2 to 3 costs 300 and is even better than the 3 to 5, because a 2 can be real bad sometimes.
14:59:26 er: So all that's a buildup to say: why make the player buy these improvements in strict order?

22:54:20 ER: Martial artes are hitting things. the hidden artes are more like spells, and cost lots more SP
22:54:50 ER: but if I use a martial arte first in a combo, chaining that into hidden artes will cost less SP
22:55:40 ER: There's a third type of arte called malak artes, but I don't have those cause I'm not a malak. They're magic spells that are powerful but need time to cast.
22:55:55 syv: I am simultaneously intriuged by the potential complexity this system implies, and annoyed by the stupid "arte" name.

22:56:40 ER: can only use if I have at least 3 souls, costs 1 to use, and gives that 1 to the enemy I attack.
22:57:23 syv: Do some artes get boosts based on what artes you used previously? So you could set it up so down is strongest after up-left-up, despite being *available* after any combo?
22:58:01 ER: buuuuut it's a giant claw, doesn't count toward the combo limit, does lots of damage, puts me in a special demon mode, and greatly increases the damage of moves I do later in the same combo.
22:58:03 syv: ...This would be hell to balance, even if so. I'd be very impressed if it isn't trivially breakable.

22:59:03 ER: And once I'm in that mode, I slowly start to lose HP, but if I try to use another move when I'd usually be capped, or I reach 1HP, I'll do a special Break Arte move, which depends on what category of enemy I hit with the claw.
