02:13:35 Devastator: actually, a disease that eats the other disease might be the solution in Driderverse.
02:13:48 Devastator: or just have sydney eat the plague. All of it.
02:31:38 Devastator: You were right, we should have taken gluttony.

04:03:32 ER: hi
04:03:40 syv: Hi!
04:04:38 syv: How are you?
04:05:00 ER: i are
04:06:05 midnightjaguar has joined #einsteinianroulette
04:06:16 syv: Intriuging.
04:08:45 ER: I went and downloaded CDDA again, hopefully this version doesn't have me freeze to death on the first day every damn time
04:09:47 syv: That game's gotten pretty comvoluted.
04:10:13 ER: fancy!
04:10:24 syv: Can you still attach an assault rifle conversion to a charge rifle, and turn basic batteries into full-auto nukes?
04:10:51 ER: I mean, when I play it it's mostly a dying cold and alone simulator, so the excessive deepness doesn't bother me much :V
04:12:54 syv: I consider the "Dying cold and alone" to be part of the intense deepitude.
04:13:17 midnightjaguar: You get to die dynamically
04:13:24 ER: I could boringly stream this if you like
04:13:36 syv: After all, you get the details of exactly which bodyparts are falling off due to frostbite.
04:13:49 syv: Nah.
04:13:54 midnightjaguar: Busy
04:22:20 ER: this seems like a *great* character!
04:23:50 ER: hmm
04:23:56 syv: ?
04:24:05 ER: start in a room with a suit of plate armor :P
04:24:13 syv: Nice.
04:29:11 ER: wielding j - mace
04:29:40 ER: I'm now a maid wearing a steel helmet and holding a mace
04:29:44 ER: groovy
04:29:58 syv: And plate mail? Where's the maid come in?
04:30:09 ER: what I started as?
04:30:29 ER: and I'm not putting on that plate mail just yet, shit's heavy :V

04:51:35 ER: that zombie was holding a toolbox!
04:51:46 ER: a toolbox with TOOLS in it!
04:52:29 syv: Wow.
04:52:48 syv: This game sounds like it's going great. Do you have drugs and books yet?
04:52:57 ER: nah
04:53:16 Devastator: heyo.
04:53:20 Devastator: was away for a bit.
04:53:25 ER: but it seems that a mace is enough to kill normal zombies one by one even with no melee skills
04:53:43 ER: 7 str 12 dex
04:53:46 Devastator: You have trouble with freezing to death on day one?
04:53:54 syv: Yeah, actual melee weapons make for good melee weapons, who knew?
04:54:23 Devastator: wear ALL the clothes. ;-p
04:54:39 ER: I can tell that clearing this mansion of zombies will take a while, though
04:55:05 Devastator remembers toolboxes just counting as a pile of tools.
04:55:08 Devastator: did they change that?
04:55:21 Devastator: And actual plate mail or the decorative stuff?
04:55:22 ER: and THIS zombie held a cash card with $400 on it...
04:57:00 syv: Junk food!
04:57:46 Devastator: glorious junk food.
04:57:57 Devastator should pick up that game where I was going for the champion alcoholic.
04:58:16 Devastator: I think I was up to a level 13 addiction or something like that.
04:58:44 syv: Katia?
04:58:54 Devastator: Yeah.
04:59:05 ER: ...that zombie with the toolbox was apparantly wearing a dress and flip-flops
04:59:07 Devastator: maybe she died and I forgot or something.
04:59:27 Devastator: it was at the point where I'd end each day wasted.

05:05:37 AoshimaMichio: with weird videos
05:06:12 Devastator: Heya Aoshi.
05:06:21 Devastator: Come to a decision?
05:06:54 syv: That vid is awesome.
05:07:21 ER: I found... a broom!
05:07:29 AoshimaMichio: dev, yea nay
05:07:55 ER: I hope that I'll be able to locate all this dank loot once I find a use for it all :P
05:08:06 Devastator: Yeah, that deer did something I thought only cats could do.
05:08:14 ER: maybe should carry all the good stuff to one room...
05:08:17 Devastator: Make horrible mistakes and act like they intended to do exactly that.
05:09:04 Devastator: Okay, no worries.
05:09:24 Devastator: Only slightly disappointed. Would have been neat having someone wish for magic powers at low favor and suffer horrible consequences.

05:11:29 Devastator: Hmm, wasn't there another roguelike that was inteded as a dying cold and alone simulator?
05:11:40 Devastator: Something about an iron age setting?
05:15:18 Devastator: I think PW is handling magic powers in CULT with a word cap.

05:16:36 Devastator: Hmm, I wonder what you could do with, say, a 3 word limit.
05:16:52 ER: well, having gotten off to a shockingly good start with this maid run, probably should go to bed
05:17:31 ER: this is a maid wearing a steel helm, carrying a mace, probably covered in blood
05:17:49 ER: pulping zombies in a dark basement
05:17:55 Devastator: sadly not DF.
05:18:01 Devastator: where you'd get to see how many different kinds of blood.
05:18:39 AoshimaMichio: what you are playing, ER?
05:18:41 Devastator: What did you call your maid?
05:18:50 Devastator: Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead.

06:06:20 Devastator: "Pheasant", clearly.
06:44:22 syv: Frozen Synapse 2 is terrihle.
06:48:58 Devastator: of course it is.
06:49:03 Devastator: you loved the first one, right?
06:55:09 syv: Ehh, not love, but it was good. Pretty unique, and I like tactical games.
06:55:34 Devastator: That's even worse.
06:55:40 syv: This, though, this is bad because it's half of an amazing game.
06:55:44 Devastator: It had something that you deeply enjoyed, and it's not there.
07:01:58 syv: It... largely is, though. The tactical game is the same, aside from the AI being far more incompetent. It's just that everything *else* is broken,
07:03:06 Devastator: ahh.
07:05:52 syv: There's now a melee knife unit. It has no gun, is very fast, and very cheap. But using it is very difficult, because it has to run *through* an enemy to kill them, and has no command like "charge at t=nearest enemy". You have to put it in the exact spot an enemy will be by the time your knife guy gets there. Even that wouldn't be terrible, but the AI typically makes insane movements that are neae impossible to predict,
07:06:11 Devastator: That sounds terrible.
07:06:39 syv: The knife is a neat idea that could be cool. But, it's just realized so terribly that it's worthless, and detracts from the game if you use it. So much of the new stuff is like that.
07:07:11 Devastator: Heh.
07:08:13 syv: There's a bunch of new units, but a lot of them follow a basic progression of strict improvement (Pistol < SMG < Machinegun < Scoped Machinegun), and most of the really neat new classes are just inferior to old stuff. There's flamethrowers! But there's very few situations where you'd want one instead of a shotgun.
07:09:27 syv: You can get smoke grenades! But the utility of a *normal* grenade is so great that you generally shouldn't waste your time. Maybe take a smoke if there will be wide lanes with enemy snipers... but you can't preview what the enemy area looks like, and need to be rich to see what units they have.
07:10:30 syv: There's rocket launchers that can bust down walls! But they can't open buildings in lockdown until you've picked the doorlocks. You can't blow up the wall next to the door until you've unlocked the door. Yes.
07:11:21 syv: On that note, ENEMIES CAN'T UNLOCK THEIR OWN DOORS. There's soldiers inside most locked rooms, but they can't get out, or shoot out, until YOU open the doors.
07:13:35 syv: Spawning is fucked sideways, half the missions I've played where I manually set it up, it changed the spawns somehow. Swap the locations of my sniper and grenadier, yes, thank you. And if you don't set up manual spawns (preemptively--there's no choice to only do it once you've confirmed that the location will be attacked), it's random, and you can have a guy standing in the middle of the street with three guns pointed at
07:15:20 syv: Missions are all insane. Periodically, factions will beg you to attack another faction. If you refuse, they dock your pay. If you accept, the target docks your pay. If you don't kill *everything* in the target, you fail and get docked by both. Unless, of course, you killed the enemy faction leader in the process, in which case your employer still considers you to have failed in disrupting operations and will dock you,
07:16:31 syv: All troops regenerate a few in-game hours after death, no matter where or how they died. Send six people into the heat of enemy territory, and get them blown up by rockets? No worry, you'll have them back for free in four hours!
07:16:46 syv: Just... gaahhh. That rant
07:16:57 syv: 's not ven half of the flaws, it's crazy.
07:48:20 Devastator: glorious.
07:49:04 Devastator: It's like me and XCOM.
07:49:06 Devastator: good luck.
07:49:46 Devastator: Is it still fixable, or is it forever hooped at this point?
07:50:00 syv: They'll probably patch it.
07:50:11 Devastator: Or sell the patch as DLC.
07:50:21 syv: I can't see them fixing everything, though. They never completely fixed their FIRST game.
07:50:36 syv: Meh. If they do that I'll pirate the patch, same as the actual game.
07:51:04 Devastator: I wonder if it's stealth copy protection.
07:51:29 syv: ?
07:51:39 syv: Oh, as in the game's broken because I pirated it?
07:52:10 syv: No, the reviews about it were pretty bad too, though they still understated it.
07:52:34 syv: If it is copy protection, they put too much work into breaking their already-broken game.
07:52:49 Devastator: Is it in Mostly Positive territory or Mixed?
07:52:56 syv: Mixed.
07:53:15 syv: I.E. "Terrible, or somehow political".
07:55:41 Devastator: Mmm.
07:56:57 Devastator: Is there anything below mixed?
07:57:33 syv: ...Unsure, let me check.
07:57:53 syv: "Mostly Negative" and "Negative".
07:58:15 syv: No "Very Negative" or "Overwhelmingly Negative", oddly.
07:58:20 Devastator: Lemme guess, terrible AND political.
07:58:41 syv: Oh, wait, no. Those do exist,
08:01:45 Devastator: ok.
08:11:40 syv: Apparently, statistically speaking, more than 50% of games are rated "Very Positive" or higher. And Steam's ranking system doesn't really sort by percentage past that bucket, going by other metrics. So the only rank that usefully tells you a game is good is "overwhelmingly positive". And even then, from experience I know YMMV.
08:12:00 Devastator: Good old 9-10 rating scale, that is.
08:15:24 syv: Yep.
08:15:33 syv: You'd think people would learn.
08:17:32 Devastator: Better that way.
08:17:38 Devastator: fewer hurt feelings if all reviews are positive.
08:19:52 syv: I don't think feelings come into it. At worst, it's done deliberately because it sells better. I don't think that's it, though, I think it's just incompetence.
08:21:07 Devastator: No reason for Steam to care.
08:36:27 syv: Yup.
10:21:20 syv has quit [Quit: Definitely a psyv.]

19:14:57 ER: Factions which are paying your bills giving you missions to fight other factions which are paying your bills and getting mad when you choose not to is weird, but seems intended.
19:15:28 ER: It's an unusual way to make you pick sides, but that's what it is.
19:48:06 Devastator: Heya ER.
19:48:19 Devastator: It also makes no sense at all.
19:49:50 ER: Well, everyone was like "hey, these 'sonata' assholes are a problem, let's put aside our differences and pool our money to fund an organization that can fight sonata!"
19:50:39 ER: and then later, they're like "jeez what are we paying these clowns for? Let's tell them to go kick in the teeth of [other faction] who are disrupting society!"
19:51:50 ER: and the poor player faction is like "b-but that's not our job" and they get mad and stop paying you.
19:52:21 ER: and they're power hungry so they go ahead and start fighting sonata themselves and taking the sweet artifacts.
19:57:04 Devastator: still seems silly.
19:58:23 ER: it's still odd from a game-balance point of view
19:59:05 ER: you start with a certain amount of income, and everyone's happy with you, and then gradually people decide you stop liking you can you lncome
20:02:43 Devastator: It seems odd from a story pov too, where they'd set up this independant group and only control you through funding.
20:03:38 ER: welp, that's basically how every x-com game works, though
20:04:16 Devastator: Yeah, but that's x-com.
20:04:20 ER: especially Apocylipse, which this seems to be using as a model.
20:08:29 Devastator: What?
20:08:42 Devastator: in X-com, though, nobody hired you for specific missions.
20:10:55 Devastator: Apoc had you funded by one group in particular.
20:12:29 ER: yes, but you're an independant group controlled only through funding
20:13:50 Devastator: Yeah. Hence why you have the latitude to conduct yourself as you wish.
20:14:11 Devastator: If you've got a specific mission-based structure, then it isn't X-Com style.
20:14:45 ER: You're totally free to disregard those missions though.
20:15:08 ER: In fact you probably HAVE to, if you don't want half the city raiding your base.
20:19:55 Devastator: Still a fixed structure, though.
20:20:16 Devastator: Should be per-mission payments with some regular funds through development costs if it runs that way.
