00:35:18 syv: Thinking about SotM again.
00:36:29 syv: Want to finish the system but I'm not sure where to start. I have too many disparate pieces scattered around.
00:37:26 ER: apply advantage/disadvanatge, is applicable. Roll 1d6.
00:39:37 syv: Guess I could do that, actually. It'd serve to play with the gun generator, at any rate.
00:43:19 syv: Do you think it's okay to have a system where dodges give you arbitrary immunity to attack, on a roll under system? Like, <2 on 1d3, you avoid damage, regardless of damage source?
00:45:23 syv: Hmm. Accuracy of attack controls die size, dodge skill controls threshold? Enemy's attack is difficulty 20, you roll 1d20, and if you get under your dodge score, no damage?
00:45:54 syv: That sounds better. Spend more stamina for rerolls, because the system is about stamina management.
00:47:52 ER: big monsters may reasonably be harder to dodge than little guys, because they hit a wide area.
00:49:13 ER: or have two rolls to dodge, one reflex and the other movement speed. Easy to see big attack coming, harder to actually get out of the way. Inverse is true in a sword fight.
00:50:33 syv: Yeah. But it depends on the attack. Not entirely sure how I'm actually going to handle the colossi;
Piecewise's system did it purely on targeted attacks affecting certain areas, and stamina being spent on moving out of those areas, but I want a freeform system that isn't bogged down by graphs and such.
00:51:15 syv: Hmm. There's an idea. Hmm.
00:53:16 syv: So, players start with one of two mech sizes: Small, which have high dodge, get two actions per turn, and (maybe) gain stamina at a doubled rate due to that; and large, which have heavy armor, get one action per turn, and can have tons of modules installed.
00:54:46 syv: One of the ideas here is that smalls are very vulnerable to small-arms fire, I.E. other mechs, but can dodge/climb/fly really well and so are good for colossus fights. Large mechs are very resistant to anti-mecha weapons, but have trouble dodging, so have to be much more defensive against colossi, and have significantly less leeway.
00:55:33 ER: how large are small are large mechs respectively?
00:56:39 syv: ...Move/dodge split would still work for this though, because many colossi attacks are movement dodgeable, and lights would still get to move + attack, while larges gotta spend their one action on moving. Hmm. Maybe let them dodge as a way to avoid damage *and* attack, so movement's just a guaranteed "Don't die, but don't do anything either" button, 'least against colossi?
00:57:51 syv: Small are ~6-7 feet tall, very thin and lightly built. Almost skeletonized. Larges are... ~18 feet tall, and built very heavy. Like the ogre chassis in Titanfall.
00:59:40 syv: Spikerolls are awesome, like free backstab immunity.
00:59:54 ER: time to make a L.mech build with a greatsword, and avoid colossus damage by hitting their limb as they swipe.
01:02:30 syv: Functionally if you get really lucky on the weapon roll, it's possible to do that with a large mech. Possible to outright sever smaller colossi's limbs. Damage scales infinitely upward, so you can get a really badass sword.
01:03:16 ER: this sword is taller than I am! taller than I am in my mech, I mean.
01:03:45 syv: Actually, everything is robots. All humans have been dead for like five centuries, atmosphere is poisoned.
01:03:49 ER: ...I'm thinking of this game as mechanical-monster hunter now.
01:04:51 syv: It's very similar, really. You're robots hunting other, bigger robots, so you can cannibalize their parts and upgrade yourselves, and/or steal their bodies. Also, fighting with other robots hunting the same giant robots, and you, and looting their guns.
01:06:12 ER: earlier I thought of the question: what sort of ecosystem results in an organisim evolving anti-tank weaponry?
01:06:33 syv: Also, nothing stopping you from being a twenty foot tall mech wielding a 25-foot tall lightsaber greatsword.
01:07:31 ER: Can I be a giant, robotic wasp queen with rocket pods under my wings?
01:07:57 ER: Can I use robotic salvage to create a nest of angry mecha wasps?
01:09:06 syv: Not at the start, unless you have a very loose definition of wasp. You can swap your AI to other bodies though, and wings, rockets, and drones are all obtainable. Yes, you can engineer basically whatever you want on a good roll.
01:28:39 syv: What is a suitably robotic name for a crafting/repairing skill?
01:30:00 ER: make every skill two words and make everything harder for everyone
01:35:16 ER: Mechanical Precision, Optical Processing, Mechanical Advantage
01:43:10 syv: Hum, if I call "Precision" "Exactness", the stats spell out "CHROME".
01:43:23 syv: But "Exactness" sounds idiotic.
01:43:44 ER: ride eternal, shiny and chromp
01:44:11 syv: "The chromp on that bike is so shiny!"
01:44:26 ER: probably not worth shooting for nifty acronyms if they make the stats themselves worse
01:45:14 syv: Jst calling it 'Accuracy' still gets me "Chroma", which is much less appropriate, but a neat word.
01:46:41 ER: chrome isn't too appropriate for a mecha-pocalypse world anyway
01:49:42 syv: Well, it's actually pretty lively. Basically evrything is constantly under construction, and lots of stuff is shiny. More Timmy's Snowglobe than Mad Max.
01:49:57 syv: "Exactitude" is apparently a word.
01:50:32 syv: "I've never seen that man make a mistake. His work is full of exactitude."
01:50:32 ER: Guess I just still don't see machine lifeforms bothering with much shinyness
01:51:24 syv: They're mostly not alive, not really lifeforms. The vast majority of robots are just running on centuries-old programming, building shiny well-stocked cities for humans that are long dead.
01:51:25 ER: maybe your mecha-wasps are shiny, as a visual warning not to fuck with them. ;P
01:51:57 syv: Sapience is a very limited resource in this setting, and you usually have to kill colossi to get some.
01:53:10 ER: guess if I want my machine exosystem world I'll have to make it myself
01:54:21 ER: ...or toss some magical girl hunters into that world :V
01:55:43 syv: I am unsure whether or not magical girl would be OP in this world. On one hand, they're reusable nukes. On the other hand, you're relatively likely to find a mech with a real nuke if you keep exploding.
01:56:06 syv: Also, robots are perfect and always roll 5s most of the time.
01:56:36 ER: Magical girl vs armory master with a fusion instigator at 2000 feet
01:58:32 ER: wait how doesn't she win that one
01:59:31 syv: Fully dark soul nova? Though I guess Rose can tank a nuke.
02:00:39 ER: She probably can't tank a nuke without amps. Or at least she would need to be put back together afterwards by someone else.
02:09:28 syv: Prediction + Teleport would also work. Or just teleport alone if the girl knows what's about to happen. Offspring could also save her... I think that's it, though.
02:10:30 ER: Just Deflect through it, in my system. ;P
02:10:39 syv: All the legit defensive skills are too weak. Maybe Ruler's Rune could quell... whatever it is the FI does, but that would require prep and setup.
02:11:10 ER: I haven't written it yet, so it does nothing
02:11:46 ER: the FI is manip-powered though, so using ruler's rune gets into mucky questions of magic system
02:13:03 syv: ...Where IS
Dev? Shouldn't he be complaining about
ER right about now?
02:13:45 ER: I mean, I don't mind the oppertunity to talk about
ER some
02:14:45 syv: Such selfish, so narcissism
02:15:56 ER: manips are based on Origin, which is some sort of dimension-traveler, and engineered life or something. So I guess Origin is equivalent to dickcat.
02:17:00 ER: It's impossible to use manips or amps without a human or human-ish brain attached, so you could argue they're emotion-powered, too
02:17:30 syv: Jim was a magical girl ALL ALONG.
02:17:48 ER: So really a FI is a magical girl in a tube with one maximum casting of soul nova ready.
02:18:28 syv: Nah, if it were you could buy little eggs as reloads.
02:19:26 syv: Basically all the automanips in weapons ignored the actual lore on automanips in favor of "It's magic, I don't gotta explain shit".
02:20:15 ER: Yeah, that electric sword is something insane. <.<
02:21:19 syv: Like, if the automanips in an FI could create a oneshot nuke wherever you point it, then a bus-sized FI should be reusable. Or, at the very least, you could stockpile enough FIs to fill a bus, which would be a more powerful weapon than AM gauss acceleration, with either infinite ammo or much less space consumption, likely at a lesser cost.
02:21:25 ER: it's an arc thrower, but smaller, and the arc is held in a sword shape by magic
02:22:27 syv: I wanted to abuse that ruling to make a missile that could tunnel through any material using boring automanips, but I don't think I ever worked that far through my backlog.
02:22:40 ER: probably because he wrote all that shit before thinking about the multi-year epic lore. :P
02:22:49 syv: I even diagrams about how it would work...
02:26:57 syv: Also, projectile protection automanips.
02:27:26 syv: Man portable, only deflected projectiles, only around your body regardless of its shape, could react to projectiles at any angle.
02:30:45 syv: Meh. Show me the king of cats.
02:31:31 syv: ...I don't see any swords?

15:29:10 syv: Obligatory message that is apparently required from some IRC apps to notify people. Though I don't think this actually applies to
Dev, the only person who might be around.
15:30:17 AoshimaMichio: I'm always around, always lurkingin shadows
15:31:33 syv: I never see you though, so you don't exist.
15:31:50 syv: n't exist if they're never around.
16:23:00 Devastator: Aoshi is on like me, just rarer.
16:23:45 Devastator: I don't even know what colour that is.
16:23:53 Devastator: It's Fortnight that everyone cares about these days, right?
16:24:05 Devastator: I think purples and golds are the colours there.
16:24:18 syv: Oh. Yeah, think so, I know nothing about it being cartoonish PUBG with construction.
16:24:46 Devastator: Although Purples are good too.
16:24:47 syv: I'm used to Purple = V.Rare/Epic, Orange = Legendary.
16:28:12 Devastator: Apparently it's for special purposes and non-battle royale modes.
16:29:36 Devastator: Is the painter not doing well?
16:29:48 Devastator: I saw that ninjas got you.
16:30:52 syv: There's non-battle royale modes?
16:32:32 Devastator: I was thinking about that myself, yes.
16:52:53 Devastator: Maybe a mode where you unlock all those cosmetics.
16:56:10 Devastator: Looks like some fun in politics yesterday.
16:57:06 Devastator: Yeah.. just.. yeah.
18:00:05 syv: 65uvtv 3ye?4vtvrrrrys3yyyyhduaw 4t4

18:11:46 Devastator: I see the byte salad that is a gen 1 glitch pokemon.
18:14:30 syv: It's too pronouncable for that~
18:22:48 syv: Yeah, that's not pronouncable.

18:44:33 ER: in case you're not being sarcastic, Fortnite was originally a pay-to-play zombie wave defence game. It didn't do very well, I think. Then they noticed that pubg made all the money so they created a free to play battle royale mode and then became the most popular game on the planet.
18:45:27 Devastator: I've never played it before.
18:45:43 syv: I've never played it at all.
18:48:51 ER: I'm pretty sure that I could set this up to make a noise when people join, but that would mean getting spammed by people with poor connections. :P
18:49:08 ER: As it is, if I hear a sound I know there's something to read.
18:50:29 syv: The name "Fortnite" makes more sense, now.
18:51:19 ER: The building mechanics, too.
18:51:52 ER: Apparantly in the battle royale mode you use the building mechanics mostly to throw up some cover WHILE UNDER FIRE.
18:52:07 ER: Like some kind of wood plank energy shield.
18:52:23 syv: Actually seems like a decent mechanic.
18:52:47 ER: You could theoretically build a fortress, but... you're forced to move all the time by the basic mechanics of battle royale.
18:53:24 syv: I could see a skilled squad whipping up a bunker crazy fast.
18:54:28 ER: There's also event 50v50 and 20v20v20v20v20 modes
18:54:45 ER: which seem to result in dorfier fortresses.
18:57:46 syv: That... actually sounds pretty fun, to be honest.
18:57:58 syv: 50v50 with construction and permadeath?
18:58:25 syv: Does it obey normal battle royale rules, everyone being scattered, and a slowly shrinking arena?
19:00:50 Devastator: 20v20v20v20v20, yay.
19:00:55 syv: Hmm. That does sound kinda bad.
19:01:03 Devastator: Well, unless you happen to fort up the place that would be the finish zone. ;-p
19:01:06 syv: It still has a huge element of luck, then.
19:05:15 ER: game concept: battle royale, except when it's reduced to two players you're stripped of your weapons and forced to play rock-paper-scissors with your opponant for the chicken.
19:06:26 ER: game concept: a simplified version of battle royale, played on slot machines in a casino.
19:08:13 syv: Game concept: Hearthstone.
19:08:30 Devastator: game concept: Chess.
19:08:34 syv: Oh wait that one already exists and is both more luck based and more popular than battle royale huh
19:08:50 syv: No-luck: it's not popular on Twitch.
19:09:43 syv: Is chess popular on Twitch, somehow? /:|
19:10:06 Devastator: Games with odd concepts.
19:10:11 Devastator: Go at least is somewhat sensable.
19:10:32 syv: Unless your definition of odd is itself odd.
19:10:47 syv: ...Which is likely true, here.
19:10:59 Devastator: What's the concept of chess?
19:11:12 Devastator: No, that would be Go again.
19:12:08 ER: you've got all your different unit types making up your army, and command them individually with the goal of destroying the enemy.
19:12:14 syv: I think the oldest wargame was "Hit brother with stick"
19:12:32 syv: And even that was probably predated with "punch brother"
19:13:16 ER: ...the first brother-hitting was probably not accomplished with a stick, considering that other animals do the same thing

21:33:45 Radio_Controlled: How's it going?
21:34:09 syv: Hello you thimble of unslilt milk dangerously close to the edge of the table.
21:34:29 Devastator: Thinking of streaming something else antique, if you're itnrested.
21:34:38 syv: I'm tried. But too caffeinated to sleep. So instead I'm arguing with
Dev in sekret chat
21:34:43 Radio_Controlled: Depends on the game.
21:35:03 Radio_Controlled: Seems like we have some new players in cabal, which is nice.
21:35:46 Radio_Controlled: Fresh blood infusion straight from the corpse that was chalice.
21:36:04 Radio_Controlled: I might watch, but probably only a little.
21:36:35 Devastator: Good work, you guys, abandoning Chalice like that.
21:37:00 Devastator: okay, I'll get it fired up.
21:37:15 Radio_Controlled: Yeah, solid work, 10/10 would flee again.
21:38:31 Radio_Controlled: What's you guys arguing about
syv?
21:39:02 syv: Semantics, mostly. At this specific moment, the definition of Mad Max With Wizards.
21:39:06 Devastator: twitch.tv/kofiman19
21:39:44 ER: mad max with wizards means my game because magical girls are equivalent to wizards.
21:39:59 ER: any others are just pretenders
21:40:07 syv: I meant to debate the relative merits of different games meant to fulfill that promise, and discuss why they failed, but it ended up being a debate about which words that were said five years ago were the important, meaningful words.
21:40:51 syv: I would bet money that Refine will function better as MMWW than what
Piecewise will come up with, yeah.
21:42:06 syv: That's not pressure. That's simple confidence.
21:42:56 syv: It is functionally better designed for what he wants. I think. Part of the problem is that the specific thing he wants has gotten very difficult to pin down, over the last FIVE YEARS.
21:43:30 Radio_Controlled: Should my pointed commentary go here or on twitch?
21:43:59 syv: I don't think
Dev reads Twitch chat, and beyond that it's fun to watch the disconnected babble without context.
21:44:23 Radio_Controlled:
Dev cannot run in a straight line it seems.
21:44:43 syv: It's because his legs are different lengths.
21:44:51 Radio_Controlled: Is playing a slightly retarded looking redhead.
21:46:04 Radio_Controlled: That wizard is wasting his talents as a mere shopkeeper.
21:46:18 Radio_Controlled: He should be out in the world, spreading shotguns.
21:46:19 syv: Sarcastically commenting on your comments without actually watching the stream.
21:47:10 syv: Shopkeeping is a prettysafe job though, as long as there isn't any high energy music playing in your store. Even then it's pretty solid.
21:47:38 Radio_Controlled: Noooo! Doggo!
21:48:30 Radio_Controlled: The wolves can breed.
21:48:57 syv: ...And
Dev stopped arguing with me. Aww.
21:49:10 ER: for some reason I prefer watching professional streamers to watching
dev~
21:49:44 Radio_Controlled: Preeeety sure TES arena isn't obscure.
21:49:52 ER: what ya wanna argue about? I agree with you whatever it is! :D
21:50:07 syv: You're a terrible arguing partner.
21:50:15 Radio_Controlled: Ah yes, let me go dive into the cesspool that is twitch just to prove a point.
21:50:44 Radio_Controlled: Instead I'm going to be enjoying these lovely spider graphics.
21:50:53 syv: Also, all pofessional streamers that aren't LobosJR are terrible and boring.
21:51:07 syv: Ooh! Can you share the spider geaphics with me?
21:51:25 ER: I've watched lobos and he's boring but not terrible
21:51:26 Radio_Controlled: It's mostly the way they bob up and down that I like.
21:51:37 Radio_Controlled: Shaking that abdomen.
21:52:07 syv has quit [Quit: Definitely a psyv.]
21:52:22 ER: I thought you wanted to argue

21:53:37 Radio_Controlled: Damnit, another one?
21:53:48 Radio_Controlled: DIG is full of 'em already.
21:54:16 Radio_Controlled: Why aren't you in DIG yet
dev.
21:54:41 Radio_Controlled: It was great!
21:54:49 Radio_Controlled: Until people pussied out that is.
21:55:31 Radio_Controlled: Yeah, this dungeon is a little bland tbh.
21:56:05 Radio_Controlled: 888th is ok I guess, but I feel like I've played out my joke character.
21:56:06 ER: welcome to the elder scrolls
21:57:15 Radio_Controlled: I would recommend a full pacifist runs starting... NOW;
21:57:47 Radio_Controlled: You just hit yourself with a sword.
21:57:55 Radio_Controlled: I feel like that should damage you.
21:58:29 Radio_Controlled: You hit your character portrait with your sword cursor.
21:59:00 Radio_Controlled: Seriously, how does that not poke an eye out?
22:00:27 Radio_Controlled: I'll be honest, I'm not gonna watch this for much longer if it's just more of this foggy dungeon. Might I make a game recommendation for you to stream instead?
22:01:10 Radio_Controlled: Try something like mari0, a free game that's basically mario but you have a portal gun.
22:01:17 Radio_Controlled: It's pretty fun and simple.
22:02:12 Radio_Controlled: You don't have to, but it'd be more interesting than this, wouldn't it?
22:03:20 Radio_Controlled: Not gonna try my recommend?
22:04:09 Radio_Controlled: Game is loud, can't understand you.
22:04:59 Radio_Controlled: It'd be something new for you at least.
22:05:14 Radio_Controlled: Should be fun to watch you learn the game as you go, see how far you get.
22:06:05 Radio_Controlled: Well you don't have to if you don't want to, was just a suggestion for something that I think might be fun to watch.
22:06:39 Radio_Controlled: Descent also wasn't that interesting to watch tbh, mostly just more dungeon fighting. Not very engaging to watch.
22:06:52 Devastator: What else is there?
22:07:35 Devastator: let me know if the levels are okay.
22:09:34 Radio_Controlled: Good enough first level.
22:11:34 Radio_Controlled: No top flag :0
22:12:01 Radio_Controlled: Delicious
dev screams.
22:12:16 Radio_Controlled: Game is already more entertaining than the last 2.
22:12:53 Radio_Controlled: For me at least.
22:12:57 Radio_Controlled: You suffering.
22:13:51 Radio_Controlled: Look, if this is too easy you could always try to go for kaizo instead.
22:14:25 Radio_Controlled: There are unique level packs as well I think.
22:15:22 Radio_Controlled: Depressing lack of portal gun use though.
22:15:42 Radio_Controlled: Because it is hilarious.
22:15:48 Radio_Controlled: And you can do fun things with it.
22:16:06 ER: The Pursuer: "Is this toooooo eaaaaasy for you?"
22:16:15 Radio_Controlled: Playing 'mario but with portal gun' as just mario does make it less interesting I suppose.
22:16:51 Radio_Controlled: You haven't even managed to launch yourself half a level away yet.
22:17:01 ER:
dev is a goblin who insists on finding a feature to specifically not use in every game he plays.
22:17:13 Radio_Controlled: If you don't know how to have fun that's not on me!
22:17:33 Radio_Controlled: Ah, so you want less options then?
22:17:58 Radio_Controlled: Very well then. New rule: no more jumping!
22:21:58 Radio_Controlled: See, now this is entertaining.
22:22:17 Radio_Controlled: Ya didn't have ti jump there.
22:22:52 Radio_Controlled: I think you could have just made a portal behind you.
22:23:40 Radio_Controlled: Run to the wall.
22:23:45 Radio_Controlled: Use that speed as a boost.
22:24:15 Radio_Controlled: You need more speed.
22:24:23 Radio_Controlled: Gotta be sprinting.
22:25:16 Radio_Controlled: Wrong portal there buddy boy.
22:25:51 Radio_Controlled: I remember doing that and it working though, hmm.
22:26:07 Radio_Controlled: Oh no game over.
22:26:16 Devastator: Not that fun, really.
22:26:21 Radio_Controlled: It was way more enjoyable to watch than the first two.
22:26:28 Devastator: Way more painful to play.
22:27:02 Radio_Controlled: You"ll never become a professional streamer with that attitude.
22:27:11 Devastator: I don't want to be a professional streamer.
22:27:24 Radio_Controlled: See, there's your first problem.
22:28:06 Radio_Controlled: Anyways, if I can come up with another game that's free and fun to watch I'll tell ya.
22:28:31 Radio_Controlled: But no way am I watching more 'foggy soup: now with dogs: the game'.
22:28:32 Devastator: If it's that shitty, don't bother. Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't want to play terrible games.
22:28:52 Radio_Controlled: It was good to watch for me though!
22:29:04 Radio_Controlled: Suffer for our entertainment, game goblin.
22:29:17 Devastator: Keep it,
RC. If you'll only watch games that suck, I won't bother streaming.
22:29:30 Radio_Controlled: If nothing else that girly scream was great.
22:30:00 Radio_Controlled: I watch games that are entertaining to watch. That was one of them, the first two weren't really.
22:30:35 Devastator: Yeah, games that are good to watch isn't the same as ones that are good to play.
22:30:44 Radio_Controlled: Now I wish I had taped that so I could make a soundbite out of that scream.
22:31:02 Devastator: I don't mind streaming, but I'm not going to play terrible games for others. At least for free.
22:31:04 Radio_Controlled: Presumably you're streaming to entertain a crowd.
22:31:47 Devastator: don't want recordnings of myself going around.
22:32:10 Radio_Controlled: Welp, back to my own game then.
22:58:19 Radio_Controlled: Looks like you might be getting some reinforcements in cabal
er.
22:58:26 Radio_Controlled: Assuming they can locate your sorry ass.
23:37:12 Devastator laments the lack of syv.
