00:30:13 Devastator: Just heading out the door.
00:30:16 Devastator: had a convo with
RC.
00:30:32 Devastator: It was mostly through PMs about that immortal game.
00:31:06 Devastator: GM said that you can't distract someone without the same roll you would do to just pickpocket them, so that's out.
00:31:51 syv: Couldn't you have someone just go up to them and stab them in the face as a distraction?
00:32:09 Devastator: Apparently it would only work as a distraction if it does no damage and is done as a stealth roll.
00:32:50 syv: This GM has some very interesting ideas.
00:33:00 Devastator: That might get changed, I used the example of going to a theme park and getting strapped in a roller coaster. It wouldn't be a roll to make that effective at reducing the ability to dodge, for instance.
00:33:15 syv: Probably, yeah. Whatcha wanna stream?
00:33:55 Devastator: It might be stealth to hide a weapon, yeah, but if I don't have one there shouldn't be a roll to get someone to do something normal for the situation, even if it puts them at a disadvantage in some way.
00:33:58 syv: Somehow I feel that's more likely to nerf rollercoasters than buff thieving.
00:34:42 syv: Yes, you have a point, but the distraction rules as already stated are blatantly insane. Insanity isn't often helped by good points
00:37:00 ER: as a reminder, this is a game where you're a guy in an exosuit using very large power tools to fight other guys in exosuits who have been driven insane by computers probably and cutting their limbs off for parts to attach to yourself.
00:37:43 ER: cyborg bloodborne with limb damage? kinda?
00:39:02 syv: Though my internet is terribad, as usual.
00:41:04 syv: The stream is much too hifh quality for me, unsurprisingly. :(
00:43:43 syv: Are there any shields to engender passivity with?
00:43:53 ER: well, being too high quality is a good complaint to get~
00:44:41 ER: no shields, but you can block with anything and I think it always blocks 100% damage unless it uses up all your stamina
00:44:43 syv: I can keep trying if you want to play the downscale game.
00:44:51 ER: you can't move while blocking though
00:45:15 ER: and putting up your block uses a bit of stamina
00:47:45 syv: I want a Souls game where you're as ambidextrous as DaS II, and can only block with about 80% resist *at best*. Maybe superheavy greatshields would get like 90% or something. And twohanding weapons doesn't increase damage, just changes movest.

01:26:26 ER: trust me, blocking is still not a good idea against enemies with big attacks
01:37:01 syv: Gwyn has way too much wange and speed.
01:50:16 syv: So scorched contract makes Gwyn really hard.
03:04:44 Devastator: I see the Pumsy's PM.
03:05:26 ER: hey, if he gets one, where's mine? >:(

03:10:52 Devastator_ is now known as Devastator
03:17:17 syv: I misunderstood which chain Sophia's breaking, it's not the copy/paste one. So I have to write, and that's harder than training against Gwyn.
03:18:17 syv: In this char's run, I accidentally murdered Laurentius due to a bug, and never bought Flash Sweat. Which means I can't block Gwyn (I'm unsure if I could even with it, actually). BUT, I've now figured out how to safely chain ripostes against him, with fist weapons and longswords.
03:19:16 syv: Buuut I also accidentally murdered Andre, so I can't ascend normal weapons. Which I kinda need for anything that I've found to be able to perpetually chain him without a shield. :(
03:20:35 syv: A later stipulation bugs out and applies bleed to all mobs if you
03:20:44 syv: 're holding a bleed weapon in your right hand.
03:21:23 syv: Which COULD let me trivially kill Gwyn in two ticks, but that would defeat the point. So instead, chaining gwyn with casti.
03:22:44 Devastator: There's something wrong with NPC murder?
03:28:30 syv: Laurentius sells Flash Sweat, which massively reduces fire damage. It's necessary romitigate Gwyn's fire damage at low HP and high NG cycles.
03:29:06 syv: Andre is the only blacksmith who can ascend weapons through the mundane path, and divine paths. Kill him, you're stuck with elemental and unique weapons.
03:29:27 Devastator: well, good luck at high difficulty levels.
03:31:20 syv: Luck doesn't really help. It takes >10 ripostes to kill Gwyn, and about half of his wakeup attacks are too fast to react to. I can't take even one blocked hit. I need to be able to avoid 100% of his wakeup moves, and entering into a chain is really just a matter of skill; waiting for the parriable charges, mostly.

03:45:23 Devastator: well, if you get too frustrated, I could put on some MoO for you.
03:46:22 Devastator: I'm in an interesting strategic situation in any case.
03:49:05 syv: I don't really have the download for a stream, and RTSs make for poor streams anyway.
03:50:43 Devastator: It also runs in 320x200 resolution.
03:51:23 syv: I'll look, and if it's boring I'll do something else.
03:51:56 Devastator: Lemme just tell it to not double resolution.
03:58:02 Devastator: okay, up for proper now.
03:58:10 ER: The Surge is actually, like, a properly creepy game for me.
04:04:33 ER: lost like 2k scrap to an erronious swing taking me off the platform
04:04:52 syv: Is that equivalent to 2k souls in DaS?
04:15:29 Devastator: Yeah. They didn't even see it as worth declaring war.
04:15:44 syv: It's amazing that my internet still struggles a little with a 200p stream. Maybe 90% of that I saw.
04:15:47 Devastator: I could win a ground combat against them there, easily, and take the planet for six of their techs, but I can't scout it.
04:15:52 ER: I don't know, it feels like more than 2000 would to me in DaS, but I'm a total newb
04:15:59 Devastator: I need to have a ship survive in orbit around there to do that.
04:16:42 Devastator: They just have too much tech. 125 HP missile bases is absurd. I might be able to fit one of those bombs on a small bomber, which is about six times cheaper per bomb, but by that time they might have more defensive tech.
04:17:52 Devastator: I'm feeling a little more hopeful after a minute later, but I don't have an easy road to victory.
04:18:10 Devastator: Runaway Psilons are a complete and utter pain.
04:18:28 Devastator: they'll just take a few more planets, research Terraforming +100 or something and vote themselves the winners.
04:19:13 Devastator: Normally time is on the side of the player, but not this time.
04:20:15 syv: Should you just play Psilons, then?
04:21:44 Devastator: They're the easiest race, but I usually let the dice decide.
04:21:58 Devastator: My win rate is about 60% overall on these settings.
04:22:44 Devastator: Yeah, I want some time to think about this.
04:23:06 Devastator: I need a lot more firepower to blow up one of their planets, overall.
04:23:24 ER: I walk into a room, "recycling" pops up for the area name. It's a workshop. Full of severed human limbs.
04:23:27 Devastator: a better weapon tech might let me put a fusion bomb on a small ship, or let me put two of them on a medium, but yeah.
04:24:45 Devastator: if they wardecked over that I'd probably resign, but this way it'll give me slightly more of a chance.
04:25:46 Devastator: Also, the fact they have weak computers is really odd. There are techs in there that multiply your factory count per population. As soon as they choose to research one of those they'll triple their production and missile base counts.
04:26:57 Devastator: It'd be much easier if I had access to any of the other races. A few tech trades wouldn't do miracles, but it might let me pick up factory count 3 to add 50% to my production, or a few other nice things. I'd have to give up something very useful to my opponents, but I'd gladly do that to anyone not Psilon.
04:28:20 Devastator: Hell, I might do that to the Psilons assuming I don't fill one of their tech holes. Get soil enrichment for 25% greater population on my planets, (which they heavily charge for), or construction tech for better ship armour and more space on my ships.
04:28:43 Devastator: Tech trades are very different than most games, though. You pick what you want from a limited list of what they're willing to trade you, and then the AI tells you what it wants for that tech.
04:29:25 Devastator: I'll go check what the Psilons have on offer right now,a ctually.
04:31:56 Devastator: I have one tech they want, Inertial Stabilizer, the +2 defense +1 tactical combat move ship special. They're willing to offer a number of interesting techs for it, actually.
04:35:12 Devastator: Oh, there's the way out, they're willing to trade class VI shields for it.
04:35:22 Devastator: Their missile bases shoot missiles that do 6 damage each.
04:36:21 Devastator: I think they have Hyper-Xs which do 8 damage, but still, that's a big help for bomber surviveability.
04:40:52 Devastator: No, it's Merculites, which are 10 damage. That renders shields 6 more or less meaningless.
04:41:12 Devastator: but I can trade for those, which add five tech levels and a rung to my weapons.
04:41:20 Devastator: taken! Smaller weapons will help a lot.
04:42:09 ER: huh, the game feels better when I'm not tilting all over
04:42:52 ER: it has basically the bloodborne dodge, so going back to DS might become awkward :P
04:43:10 ER: maybe it's good that dodge is a different button in this
04:43:33 syv: BB's dodge is basically just a ninja flip.
04:45:53 syv: DaS has the best dodge system, it's omnidirectional AND you can control facing.
04:46:19 syv: It's really annoying to reverse roll in BB or DaS III.
04:59:00 Devastator: Yeah, the small bombers meant I could put together a thousand of them in less time than the hundred medium ones. And they were able to dodge the scatter packs at movement 3. Could take out a dozen bases.
04:59:46 Devastator: Also, the Psilon fleet ships are terrible designs.. almost all missile armed. Means I can hold them off with a small handful of dodgy gunships.
05:00:28 Devastator: (The missiles run out of fuel and can't kill the ships, forcing them to retreat. It doesn't apply to their land bases, but the lack of computers makes the Alkari bonus still relevant.)
05:00:31 Devastator: I may have hope after all.
05:00:32 ER: by default, it auto locks on when you HIT an enemy
05:00:48 ER: and locking on lets you target body parts
05:01:47 syv: Why do you need to target body parts, anyway?
05:02:33 syv: GG on pulling a chance of victory from a seemingly unwinnable situation,
Dev.
05:03:06 Devastator: It's not a win yet.
05:03:20 Devastator: Long, long way from a win, but I nicked off that rich planet to the upper centre.
05:03:29 Devastator: And they might research a bomb tech and blow me to smithereens.
05:03:47 Devastator: Also, my defences are paper, and they still have 17 planets to my 9.
05:03:55 ER: you need to target body parts to cut the good bits off advanced enemies.
05:04:18 Devastator: I also got no technologies, the rich planet only had 95 factories.
05:04:19 ER: or whack them in their unarmored parts to dispose of them quickly
05:04:28 Devastator: (I don't know the odds, but that's usually good for one or two.)
05:05:20 syv: I would prefer if you targeted body parts naturally, by aiming strikes so that they hit
05:05:43 Devastator: Still, +1 for me, and a nice rich planet. If I can hold it, I should be able to keep afloat on the research front. Plus I have the lovely Stinger missiles on my tree, which are 15 dam speed four missiles with +3 to hit, so are quite sufficient for blowing up big ships.
05:06:06 syv: Do a low sweep from your left, you hit their right leg. Do a big downward chop and aim it right, you hit the head, or the torso if you're a little off.
05:07:46 Devastator: Anyway, only played a dozen more turns. I'm still bad off, and I need to do a little more base building.
05:11:01 Devastator: There's the Psilon fleet.
05:15:02 Devastator: Nope, couldn't hold it. They have heavy bioweapons on some of the ships, and class IV shields don't stop crap, even against no bombs.
05:17:24 syv: Oh well. Think it's going to spiral into a full loss?
05:25:46 Devastator: Yeah, it's a loss. Their fleet is terrible at nailing planets, but I'm a thousand years from planetary shield. If I wasn't so cut off I might have been able to get it in some other way.
05:27:10 Devastator: Basically they can just wipe it out with super-advanced warships. I could probably do some serious damage if I had planetary shields, as 14 levels of shield would render their guns almost ineffective, but IV levels of shield isn't sufficient to squat. I might reload and take my shot at a more developed planet, see if I can actually steal techs from my one capture, but that might not do it....
05:27:11 Devastator: ... I'll count it as a loss and might do some reload action.
05:27:44 Devastator: The annoying part is I scored one capture, but got zero techs from it.

05:28:08 Devastator: If I'd gotten six, the max, it could have included war-winning stuff. Or at least shields VI to help out on the planets.
05:29:56 Devastator: I might try one more strategm, that is, ally with the Psilons, use that to scout their planets and leapfrog to conquer some other AI territory on the far side of the map for myself.
05:31:38 syv:
Dev's explaining how he lost at MoO.
05:32:07 syv: And I'm reading random BS on the internet, waiting to feel sleepy.

05:33:56 Devastator: Nah, I'll probably just start over.
05:34:10 Devastator: Chalk that up as a loss, but keept the ideas in mind for other games.
05:34:13 midnightjaguar: It’s pretty at least.
05:34:32 Devastator: I shoulda hit a more built-up target with the one attack. Take some actual techs at least.
05:37:38 syv: Computers show a lot of pretty stuff, too.
05:38:15 syv: I feel a little guilty to say this, but honestly computers show a wider range of prettier things than nature, with less effort required. :\
05:38:30 midnightjaguar: Eh, I can touch things in nature.
05:38:47 Devastator: Computers are nice, but it's pretty up where I'm at.

10:30:36 Devastator: The ensuing position is winnable.
10:30:54 Devastator: And it isn't 'one of the old 4x games'
10:31:12 Devastator: It is probably the best strategic TBS game ever made.
10:32:41 NJW: Definitely worth a look then
10:33:38 Devastator: Oh, do remember with the GoG version the copy protection appears, but is disabled. Just click on any ship.
10:54:39 Devastator: thought I'd check one last time.
10:54:44 Devastator: He finished the coven update.
11:15:29 Devastator: just before he came on.
11:16:30 Oz: teh girls in alien 9 have huge ears

12:28:16 Devastator: Was bad there for a while.
12:31:04 syv: Posted. Ben's visiting TFL Mages, instead of continuing to hunt down smokes. The smokes aren't really necessary. anyway.
12:36:17 Devastator: I was going to pick him up for money making purposes.
12:39:58 syv: Okay then. He isn't exactly a good choice for making first contact.

Dev, if you're reading this, I've been reading the book you suggested. Reached the University section. Seems pretty good so far. The story is interesting and I like the focus on storytelling, even going as far as the way the story is told. I was afraid it was going to get too... alliterative? in the beginning but it only appears to be so during the beginnings of sections.
13:57:43 parisbre56: don't think I'm going to finish it before winter
13:57:51 parisbre56: but it's a nice way to spend free time
13:58:02 parisbre56: especially when you don't have a powerful internet connection

17:41:14 syv: Not in Coven, I don't think.
17:44:23 syv: If you want to stream The Surge, I have the internet for it now.
17:50:48 ER: I'll go ahead and start that up then, because that's basically all I want to do anyway >_>
17:52:39 ER: I hadn't noticed that before :V
17:59:59 syv: It's still a little choppy, 1050p (?) at 60 fps eithout any available downscaling is rather intensive.
18:00:34 syv: Though that might actually be more a limitation of this dinky laptop.
18:01:16 ER: okay, I can turn it down, make it less pretty :(
18:02:12 ER: okay, back up with 30FPS and downscaling
18:07:30 syv: Was that an estus charge you grabbed?
18:08:30 ER: ah, so the "estus" here is an injectable
18:08:52 ER: which I can plug in as an implant, and has a limited number of uses
18:09:10 syv: Per life, or per injectable?
18:09:20 ER: there's also a smaller heal that I can plug in, that has unlimited uses but requires energy to use
18:09:37 ER: energy is the blue bar that goes up when I hit thing
18:10:14 syv: I like that! Mana from hitting things is a good mechanic.
18:11:12 ER: kinda like how bloodborne encourages you to hit things :P
18:14:31 ER: I saw the security dudes in one other place
18:14:51 ER: haven't attacked them because... come on, they seem sane enough.
18:21:18 syv: Was that a backstab, or just a normal combo?
18:24:15 syv: I suggest the heaviest armor you have.
18:24:42 ER: backstabs kick the enemy over and let you take another shot
18:25:20 ER: I like the light legs though, because of the -10% stamina consumption on dodges
18:26:57 syv: Barely! And you still get cheap dodges!
18:28:01 syv: Srop swapping between them and toying with my feelings. >.<
18:42:49 ER: wow, the lights on the torso piece you've convinced me to use are terrible
18:43:03 syv: Judging by how many times you've been reduced to a sliver of HP, I think the body armor has been helpful. :P
18:43:20 syv: They shine directly into your face!
18:46:00 syv: Pity. Counting consumables, I think you had enough scrap for Jo.
18:46:21 ER: well, I certainly will when I recover my scrap then! :P
18:50:28 syv: The complete lack of heal delay is cheap.
18:51:15 ER: that has saved my ass a number of times :P
19:03:40 Devastator: Posted in Coven. You should be good for your current turn, we'll meet up for the heist after this one.
19:04:50 Devastator: I'm just heading right out the door so no time to talk.
19:12:59 syv: I was expecging the hazmat geat to be a bit more enclosing. :(
19:20:28 syv: Plenty of female voices in this game, but all the enemies seem to be male.
19:21:15 ER: also no character creation, so you're always a dude
19:21:18 syv: I suppose you almost never stab female hollows in DaS, so not really worse.
19:21:40 syv: I figured, since "Warren" is voiced. Also male.
19:22:51 ER: but they have audiologs from a woman who seems to be going through things very similar to Warren, so yay?
19:23:09 syv: She sounds a lot less badass and choppy. :(
19:23:41 ER: Warren just plain doesn't say much, unfortunately
19:26:42 syv: You know, I bet an actual DaS protagonist with a sword would do pretty well in this world. A lot of these crazies have huge gaps in their exoskeletons, and even the heaviest ones don't look significantly more armored than Havel.
19:26:59 syv: A zwei would still mess them up/
19:27:28 ER: Yeah, it helps that basically none of the weapons are actually weapons, but repurposed tools.
19:27:58 syv: Heh. Warren would have a much easier time if only he had a rifle.
19:28:11 ER: look at how blunt these chisels are!
19:28:43 syv: That looks horrible for any kind of chiseling.
19:28:56 ER: the drone's blaster might be supposed to be a weapon?
19:29:29 syv: A weapon which doesn't deal significant damage unless you punch a guy five times first...
19:29:46 ER: point is that he uses them like blades, but they're several inches away from even starting to be sharp, at best.
19:30:20 syv: THAT looks far more effective.
19:35:36 syv: I looked up the game's story, and... yeesh. Not even a paragraph in, and I see this: "The company that you’re an employee of is trying to fix [the environment] by putting satellites into the atmosphere."
19:36:05 ER: yeah they say that in the opening cutscene :P
19:37:11 syv: I guess it's one of these scifi fetish stories where they throw around concepts and words without actually knowing what they mean.
19:38:33 syv: Tuning out, I gotta leave soon.
19:38:39 ER: (going after biohazard torsos to upgrade my armor)
19:40:29 ER: I clicked on the wrong yellow torso piece >.<
19:40:51 ER: Guess I'd better go chop more dudes in half
19:43:44 syv: So, game plot: "GLOBAL WARMING has destroyed THE WORLD! We're gonna launch SATELLITES into the ATMOSPHERE, so they can SEED TERRAFORMING CYBORG NANITES, GENOCIDING stupid people and ASCENDING the rest to live in UTOPIA!"
19:44:20 syv: I wouldn't spoil, but... damn it that's so stupid spoiling it is more of a defense from the inevitable facepalm when they try to make that DRAMATIC.
19:45:35 ER: wait, so the sattilites are flooding the atmosphere with nanites that turn people into crazy cyborgs?
19:47:44 syv: I don't think they've launched the satellites yet, they just seeded their facility first. Or it escaped. Or something.
19:48:18 ER: that cyborg that I just sliced an arm off of had a female face, I think. Though she was still making the same zombie grunts
19:48:46 ER: they're already launching the atellites
19:48:58 ER: you see one launch in the opening tram ride
19:49:21 ER: ...obligatory half life tram ride. hmm.
19:52:29 Devastator has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
19:53:04 syv: Ah. Okay then, yeah, they're launching the cyborg murder zombie nanites across the world already then.
19:53:19 Devastator has joined #einsteinianroulette
19:53:25 syv: And I bet you fix that by hitting the nanites with chisels until they reach 0 HP.

20:04:44 ER: I was frustrated for a moment, because I had a level 0 weapon, and needed tungton alloy mk1 to upgrade it to level 1
20:05:13 ER: and I had a whole stack of tungstun mk2, but none of the enemies dropped the level 1 stuff anymore
20:05:41 ER: but then I realized that I don't need to upgrade thing seqentially, and I could just upgrade it to mk2

20:41:48 syv: Skipping upgrade levels is wonderful. I'd be happy if Dark Souls just didn't have weapon upgrading at all, actually.
21:09:44 ER: you could just increase damage by leveling str and dex
