05:39:17 ER: I went hiking, met a bear with cub, and consequently decided that when I got home I would shower and take a very long nap, rather than think about anything serious.
05:41:07 syv: Huh. With a cub? That's worrying.
05:42:05 ER: I didn't see her other than just a glimpse though the trees, but other people did.
05:43:01 ER: had to take a different trail to the road because she wasn't going away. Would have been a long walk along the road had not a very nice person with a minivan given us a ride.
05:45:14 syv: Hmm. It's been much too long since I went hiking.
05:45:24 syv: Pity it's so wet right now.
05:45:43 ER: Are there nice spots for that in florida?
05:46:34 syv: When it's not too wet, yeah. Right now even most of the high ground is puddles, but it's pretty nice when it's about 50/50.
05:46:55 syv: Oh, and I mean just walking around the woods. No hills of course. ;P
05:52:12 ER: if there's a hell, it must be flat :I
06:00:16 ER: because flat terrain is terrifying
06:01:36 syv: Mountains sre way worse, you can't fall off a flat plain.
06:01:50 syv: Hell would be a sheer cliff face, infinitely tall.
06:03:09 ER: you can fall over on a flat plane, and then stare at the sky consumed by the extistiential dread of having nothing above you that's solid and nothing below you that's gaseous
06:04:04 syv: You can also be consumed by the existential dread of having nothing below you that's solid, at least for the first few hundred meters, and then something that IS solid.
06:04:09 ER: no up, no down, it's like a key part of reality has just been torn out
06:04:15 syv: I find that far more existentially terrifying.
06:05:09 ER: no, that's just perilous, which is far better than something truly terrifying
06:07:03 ER: does peril even mean anything when you're in hell?
06:07:42 ER: like, at that point you're immortal, so hitting the ground will just hurt, and probably much less than most of the hurt you've already felt.
06:11:06 syv: I think in Hell you wouldn't know you were in Hell. Or, you'd only know intermittently.
06:11:38 syv: Like, you'd keep waking up and thinking it was only a dream, go about your day, and then have Hellish things happen without understanding why.
06:39:22 ER: I got bored of that conversation
06:43:52 ER: sneaky tactics hurt my poor brain a little without a battle map or anything. I might need to make a habit of making maps, not having a good enough view of the space is a recurring problem.
06:46:48 syv: Maps aren't too difficult.
06:48:35 ER: well, I stuck a plugin into paint.net to make it generate grids for me, so that should make it fairly painless
06:56:41 ER: stop having such good luck, I need to kill you.
07:01:53 Devastator: Ahh, unskilled labour.
07:02:16 Devastator: Had a bear cub walking through my lawn last week.
07:06:59 Devastator: got fed up with the lack of callbacks and took a labour position.
07:08:47 syv: So... small fuzzy animals murder each other now?
07:09:27 Devastator: Yeah. I'll update that again starting next weekend.
07:09:56 Devastator: so when is Pumsy's?
07:11:02 Devastator: At least cabal is going okay.
07:11:08 Devastator: and
RC will stop bugging me about mouth hell.
07:25:14 ER: Was thinking about Refine a lot. Think I'll swap "stoicism" for "truth", which is a bit closer to purity is theme
07:25:45 ER: and it looks less like an actual RPG stat, which is bonus ;D
07:27:12 syv: Wonder if I should just throw the class spoilers at you. Unlikely they'll ever get discovered legit, considering how slowly I update.
07:29:19 syv: I suppose that's an answer.
08:12:34 syv: That... sounds much less terrible than I exoected.
08:28:10 syv: Cosplay Souls is an interesting, if not exactly difficult mod.
09:18:56 syv: Aww man I wish I'd recorded that. I killed the hydra by playing fetch with it.
09:58:11 ER: should totally toss cave story references into refine once that's running
10:03:20 ER: powers are kind of the hard part. Your game has 6 powers for 8 classes each with three levels and they all work differently and I have no idea how you did that
10:05:51 syv: Do you remember awhile back when I was in IRC and just asked for any kind of magic power or superpower, no matter how silly?
10:06:15 syv: Most of the interesting stuff came directly from that.
10:06:44 ER: I remember recommending the ability to bleed snakes and that's not in there
10:07:25 syv: Most of the stuff I used didn't even get added in a way even vaugely resembling the suggestion.
10:08:12 syv: IIRC
MJ suggested a magical girl hooking up tubes to her eyes to use her tears as a saline solution, and that directly resulted in Flagellation.
10:08:20 syv: I don't have any recollection HOW that happened, but it did.
10:09:22 ER: maybe some of them are bad ideas, but they're certainly there
10:09:39 syv: But yeah, most of the classes have a couple concepts/characters behind them which inspired stuff. I'd watched RWBY recently, and though I didn't think much of it, Weiss and... the gold-haired girl affected Purity and Bravery, for instance.
10:10:16 syv: Creativity is inspired by shapechangers,
Piecewise-esque fleshorror, and rogues.
10:10:19 ER: so you're saying I have to watch anime? D:

10:10:57 syv: Joy is basically just a D&D blaster mage, Kyouko, and a couple sugg--Uhh.
10:11:17 syv: Bah. I probably wasn't being helpful anyway.
10:11:40 syv: Point was, all of it's derivative, with general goals and themes aimed for.
10:16:35 syv: Ahh, now I remember Flag's connection. Point of the saline tears was using the char's suffering to heal someone else. Fluff around it was silly, but the core idea of sacrificing self to heal another was good. At some point I moved the actual physical damage to the target, since that synergized better.
10:19:07 syv: Probably also relevant (do you logread,
ER?) that I rewatched the entire PM3 anime and wrote down every magical thing anyone did. Everything in Eq came from that, and a lot of base powers. Should've rewatched the movie too, some stuff came from there anyway, but only what I recalled...
10:20:54 syv: Oh! The three levels for each power came pretty much strictly from figuring out what L3 was, then debuffing it in various ways for L1 and L2.
11:20:42 syv: ...And now I have a text file containing the exact reasons for each of the powers, if not what specifically made me think of them. Guh, I like this system so much, pity the game itself isn't nearly as much fun.
11:21:26 syv: That apparently took precisely an hour to write, too. Neat, if a waste of time.
12:02:14 syv has quit [Quit: It's pronounced "psyv". Really!]
