02:03:12 Devastator: got the cc bill for my vacation.
02:03:22 Devastator: sight unseen I called the total dollar value to 60 bucks.
02:03:54 MJ: I read that as vaccination and was like damn that's fucked, you're getting charged for vaccinations?
02:04:48 Devastator: No, those are free. This is for the trip down to see my brother.

02:22:31 MJ: I took the day off today and it was like really really nice.
02:23:55 MJ: Yeah, it's the first time I've done that since I started med school, where I was just like fuck it I'm not going to do anything at all medically related today.
02:24:23 Devastator: I hope I didn't wreck that with my suggestoin.
02:24:43 Devastator: talkign with
MJ about a potentially medical-related forum game.
02:25:10 MJ: Nah that's fun medical related stuff...which is pretty much exactlly the same except I'm not being graded on it
02:27:16 MJ recoils at the sight of the grading scale
02:27:47 MJ: Do we want to play some DRG?
02:34:18 MJ: Oh actually I'm busy tomorrow unfortunately. I have a date!
02:34:57 Devastator: yeah, too tired after a day of wrangling trees.
02:35:10 Devastator: it really is 35,000 trees per day.
02:39:37 MJ: 3 months or somehting right?
02:41:12 Devastator: about 75 working days.

02:48:08 Devastator: Hmm? I'm just getting bumped around the line.
02:48:12 Devastator: I can work every position.
02:48:24 MJ: I thought you'd been put in
02:48:32 MJ: I can not type today apperently
02:48:45 Devastator: well had one for a couple days, but got bounced around today.
02:49:29 Devastator: unfortunately, I got the curse of the good generalist.
02:49:39 Devastator: I got paired up with green people to help cover for their mistakes.
02:50:53 Devastator: ahh, well, it'll mean a good recommendation and the situation I have with them, in that I can always get a job with them whenever I want.
03:00:05 Devastator: I live in treeland,
Egan.
03:01:06 Devastator: ask
syv, he's seen them.
03:02:51 MJ: I'm fairly sure
dev is a druid
03:03:32 Devastator: You can't be both a druid and a lumberjack.
03:04:16 MJ: true, but your creating trees not fellin them. So your a druid
03:06:06 Devastator: A druid who has the main contribution of pulling them out of their nice lovely greenhouse racks and stuffing them into boxes.
03:06:54 Devastator: is that positive or negative from the tree's point of view? I've never done planting on a professional level.
03:07:30 MJ: I feel like it's probably a positive?
03:07:43 Devastator: It's like.. you know well testing racks, right,
MJ?
03:07:59 Devastator: hundreds of wells inside a big plate or something, managed by machines?
03:08:44 Devastator: imagine they're styrofoam, the wells are dirt-filled plugs the size of big test tubes, and a machine shoves them out from below. One styofoam rack at a time.
03:09:11 Devastator: and then I do one of the steps that's involved in taking those seedlings and stuffing them into boxes.
03:09:20 MJ: Huh. for some reason I expected the trees to be bigger
03:09:35 Devastator: they get a lot bigger.
03:10:49 Devastator: they're not tiny. They vary a lot, (and the ones that didn't make it get ditched), but they're generally not bigger than a foot tall.
03:11:18 Devastator: well, a foot, eighteen inches, something like that.
03:11:38 Devastator: the ones I've been dealing with are spruces. Other species are handled a bit different.
03:12:25 Devastator: pines are tiny when they're boxed, even smaller. They basically haven't branched yet, most of them, so it's like one living stick with a few dozen big needles.
03:13:36 Devastator: lodgepole pines are quite a bit bigger, but they're ill-behaved. They get all twisty and are pretty unpredictable. When we do those there's a lot of sorting involved and we handle them quite slow.
03:14:38 Devastator: douglas fir are in-between the pines and spruce. They're usually more reliable, with more of them making it, but they all look neat because the needles on the tip are always brown, despite the seedlings being alive.
03:14:53 Devastator: it's just how firs work.
03:16:21 Devastator: No, they're green, but the easiest way to tell that they're firs is the needles on the end of every tiny branch are always brown and dead, despite the rest of the branch and the tree being fine.
03:16:24 Devastator: it's just how they work.
03:17:25 MJ: Alabama has a lot pine trees actually
03:17:32 MJ: But they're all like weird pines
03:27:54 Devastator: was waiting for pine-related elaboration.
03:28:55 Egan: there's some needly trees around here but I dunno what kinds
03:36:41 Devastator: Ortho bros are real, aren't they?
03:36:44 Devastator: What kind of bones are there?
03:36:47 Devastator: "Oh, there's the Long Bones. And the Flat Bones."

03:47:24 Devastator:
MJ's having trouble dealing with my estimate of 35,000 trees/day.
03:47:36 Devastator: Would you confirm that I come from treeland?
03:49:13 Devastator: There are three more tree factories like this one within an hour's drive,
MJ.
03:49:26 MJ:
Dev this is what I think everytime you talk about tree buisness
03:50:26 syv: Yes
MJ,
Dev comes from the untamed wilds
03:50:40 syv: He lives in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees. Forever.
03:50:54 syv: Drive for hours and hours. And it's just more trees.
03:50:55 Devastator:
MJ,
syv isn't exaggerating.
03:52:09 syv: We flew in, so I never saw the line where the trees stop and more normal terrain begins, I'm sure it does exist somewhere, but as far as I saw
Dev might as well live in the Elemental Plane of Trees and Mountains
03:52:23 Devastator: in which direction?
03:52:34 Devastator: I know where the line is. ;-p
03:52:40 MJ: Okay honestly elemental plane of trees soudns sick
03:52:51 MJ: That should be an elemental plane
03:52:54 Devastator: east it goes to about 30 minutes east of Jasper, just out of those mountains.
03:53:03 Devastator: then it's open plain and farms.
03:53:06 syv: Oh, to be a jaguar in the elemental plane of trees
03:53:17 syv: Well I guess we didn't go quite east enough
03:54:03 Egan: I mean, everything around here that's not forest is just a place where people tore out a bunch of trees to build stuff there. Though we don't actually have a lot of forest :v
03:54:50 Devastator: north it goes until the trees stop, about 36 hours of driving and a few hundred km to the arctic ocean.
03:55:07 syv:
Dev lives in a place where there's little colonies of cleared space between endless forests
03:55:16 syv: Little roads snaking through
03:55:24 Devastator: west it goes to the ocean. that's about 600 miles.
03:55:52 Devastator: south it doesn't go that far, actually. When you're in the Fraiser Canyon you're not really in forest anymore.
03:56:11 Devastator: like about 3.5 hours or so, but there's trees if you leave the canyon.
03:57:50 Devastator: the area that's now farmland was, before human habitation, cottonwood prarie, which is unfortunately too rare for me to show you any of it when you were here, and the area around it was scrub forest, which is pretty open and not what you'd normally call a forest.

05:26:15 Devastator: maybe if you invite.
05:28:35 Devastator: sure, one more sounds good.
05:32:28 Devastator: err, joined you already.
06:03:11 syv: Sorry for not playing so well there
06:04:10 syv: I was being much too reserved and cautious on haz 5, then flubbed the bulk on the haz 4 mission
06:05:44 syv: I should run one of the EDD kits I use next time we try haz5
06:06:25 syv: I tend to focus on efficiency and simplicity for those over DPS, which might work a little better.
06:15:38 syv: I am definitely not biased
06:16:02 Egan: the assault rifle is one of my favorite weapons, oddly
06:16:41 Egan: they should give scout a nuke
06:22:10 Devastator: and updated Extinction.
06:28:27 Devastator: I must apologize for this puzzle. Optional areas are harder than the normal game.
06:39:28 syv: It's silly fun with the +RoF overclock
06:40:00 syv: It has a *lot* of really good overclocks in general. More than scout's other primaries.
06:40:53 syv: At some point I'm going to mod this game and play with gear from all classes
06:41:50 syv: Like, on one character. Assault rifle scout with nuke launcher. Driller scout. C4-only driller. Gunner with shield and all three primaries.
06:43:52 syv: ...There's a lot of silly potential, doing something like "three revolvers and a grapple!", or two drills and two minelaying overclocks.
06:44:08 syv: They shouldn't make a standalone DRg roguelike
06:44:47 Egan: twelves shots... now I have twelve shots
06:45:13 syv: They should make a roguelike mode for DRG where you start off with two gear items, a support and a weapon, and as you beat missions you can swap in more items which are randomly selected.
06:45:43 Devastator: roguelike really has no meaning anymore.. ;-p
06:46:51 syv: Maybe force you to have only two weapons, but let me choose betweem "Hrm, do I keep the clean overclock assault rifle, or switch it out for this rocket jumping grenade launcher?"
06:47:00 syv: Actually I could play this myself with modding
06:48:06 syv: Just set up rules for myself for how a "campaign" goes, start at haz 1 with crap gear in all slots, then as I beat missions steadily increase hazard and randomly roll weapons I can choose to equip in
06:48:11 Egan: guess they don't have to make anything then ;p
06:49:31 Devastator: playing with the bandana might be interesting.
06:49:43 Devastator: why isn't there a bandana?
06:50:01 syv: Bandana? Infinite ammo...?
06:57:02 Egan has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
06:58:52 syv: If you do mean infinite ammo
dev, I dunno if there's a mod for it, but there's a bunch of mods to edit nitra cost of resupplies.
06:59:08 syv: Make it 1 nitra per pod and that's pretty close to infinite ammo.
06:59:37 Devastator: I did. Not really to play the game like that, but to maybe do a weird thing or two.
07:01:51 syv: "Let's just excavate the entire cave."
07:02:48 Devastator: we still haven't pierced the heavens yet.
07:03:46 syv: It's best with either double engi or solo scout. You only want driller if you're going down.
07:03:56 syv: Resupplies mine upwards way better than driller.
