05:29:18 ER: -17 C. is that cold,
Devastator?
05:34:44 ER: so not freezing? Man we gotta get you a better jacket. :p
05:39:05 syv: ...yeah, I still need to replace the zipper in mine.
05:39:15 syv: And even then it's a fairly light jacket >.>
05:39:28 syv: What I really should get sometime is real pants
05:39:37 syv: Or thick or warm pants or whatever
05:39:45 syv: I wear the same pants in summer
05:50:31 Devastator: -17 c is fairly cold.
05:50:43 Devastator: it feels extremely mild compared to the last week.
05:53:24 Devastator: Was rereading Ready Player One.
05:53:39 Devastator: got to one of the best scenes in the book, and kinda disappointed it wasn't in the movie.
05:54:18 Devastator: basicxally, after finding the first key and clearing the first gate in the book, the corporate guys spam the first people to clear it with job offers.
05:54:50 Devastator: the MC opens one and takes the interview. In it he suggests that he'd be willing to sign on if they fire the ass of the main villain.
05:54:57 Devastator: ..which they accept.
05:55:09 Devastator: MC doesn't actually take the job, but it's a fine, fine scene.
05:56:21 syv: Wasn't the main villain the CEO?
05:57:08 Devastator: book was more coherant about things.
05:57:29 Devastator: main villains were corporate types, but they had basically a 'head of department' who was the main villain, so to speak.
06:03:54 syv: Yeah that makes more sense
06:04:09 ER: since
dev won't be playing first round, I guess we could offer for him to spectate my perspective in the MG game?
06:04:49 syv: Did the department head also use an in-game avatar who was OP due to P2W/farming by other people?
06:05:11 Devastator: they were much more organized.
06:05:22 Devastator: they had a couple thousand well-equipped avatars.
06:05:33 Devastator: and loads of high-end resources.
06:05:49 Devastator: and their own planet-sized base of operations with all sorts of kit.
06:06:14 syv: In the movie he had a dragon character who was a mercenary, which made much more sense to me than the CEO being the final in-game boss
06:06:45 syv: Which I guess was done so that protag could punch the main villain
06:06:48 Devastator: Yeah, they took the dragon's name from some low-level guy who tipped them off as to what the MCs were doing.
06:07:04 Devastator: the protag did punch the villains, but it was through forming a very neat plan.
06:07:24 Devastator: basically got them to set off one of their own nukes inside a force-field they had up over the third gate area.
06:07:34 Devastator: which let everyone in.
06:07:52 Devastator: Third gate had a special reward where everyone got a giant mecha, and the final scene was a giant mecha fight.
06:08:13 Devastator: ..which went against the corp guys because they only had a limited supply of giant mecha and there were like five million people against their well-eqquipped group.
06:09:23 Devastator: Main villain also isn't the CEO. He's the head of the department trying to hunt down the egg.
06:09:32 syv: Movie didn't have the budget for five million mecha unforuntunately
06:09:40 syv: (I know, most didn't have mecha)
06:09:49 Devastator: The issue was different.
06:10:05 Devastator: it would have been impossible for them to license all the necessary stuff.
06:10:29 syv: Yeah, I had been surprised with how much they *did* license
06:10:50 Devastator: Book guy can write in references to whatever films and video games wanted, but the movie had a much more limited range.
06:11:09 Devastator: Yeah. Still should have been able to get the William Electronics titles, though, back then that was doable.
06:11:48 Devastator: They also dropped references to stuff they weren't able to license, which was more annoying than anything else.
06:12:11 syv: I cuddled Parzival yesterday.
06:12:26 Devastator: "Yes, you've got a reference to the Tomb of Horrors D&D module on the back of the van, but all that's doing is reminding me you don't have it in!"
06:12:33 Devastator: which one is Parzival again?
06:12:36 syv: He buried his head in my elbow and purred
06:13:43 syv: ...Didn't they still say that the creator's avatar was Acererak?
06:14:34 syv: He's the least fierce of the bunch
06:14:38 Devastator: Anorak, the british slang term.
06:14:56 Devastator: he does look fighty.
06:15:31 syv: I guess I mentally overwrote it, my dad had been talking about the book before we saw the movie, and I realized who the lich was from that.
06:15:46 syv: There were a lot of references I knew that he didn't
06:17:13 syv: There is a "cybercrime prevention flier" on the wall of my office. Mostly talks about email scams, and at the bottom has a short segment on password security.
06:17:41 syv: One of the bullet points is "Use strong passwords or passphrases". Which is a blue hyperlink, presumably to a guide on what is actually a strong password.
06:17:46 syv: It's a printed piece of paper.
06:18:21 ER: clicking on links on paper is a form of bad security
06:18:44 syv: oh no i lost my bank account
06:19:37 ER: I mean if you try it and it WORKS
06:19:46 ER: you're probably about to have a bad time
06:20:52 syv:
Dev, did you want to spectate
ER's perspective instead of the human perspective?
06:21:05 ER: I've been spying on the number of replies and most recent poster for SMAK, is that against the rules? :p
06:22:11 syv: Honestly I dunno why you wouldn't be able to spectate both
06:22:38 ER: what if he comments on something to me? :p
06:22:38 syv: If you spectate only Egan you could give him advice I guess
06:22:48 syv: But you don't seem likely to do that
06:23:06 syv: You're more the type to giggle quietly in the background as someone walks into a trap
06:23:49 syv: Yeah I was going to name it SMAC at first, then I wrote that out and went "oh"
06:25:08 Devastator: I'm gonna say no, if that's the choice.
06:25:45 syv: You get three choices and my opinion on them is big shrug
06:26:11 syv: The whole human team is going to just die in one round at *some* point.
06:26:32 Devastator: Not with my character.
06:26:39 Devastator: I am interested in knowing
ER's build.
06:27:17 Devastator: Alida probably isn't gonna do a one round kill.
06:28:05 syv: Alida can absolutely summon ten wolves at once and murder at least one person with each
06:28:30 ER: getting into melee range all together is going to be an awful idea
06:28:40 ER: that'd let me one round them for sure~
06:46:47 Devastator: ..Yeah, I should make sure to use Effigy.
06:46:57 Devastator: although with Alida it's more arena dependant.
06:47:03 Devastator: can only fit so much woof in a given area.
06:51:15 Devastator: you know, a giant double-ended polearm would actually be an okay weapon for her.
06:53:58 ER: my first pick for totem this time was farron greatsword but I don't think a teenage girl can wield it without CC and CC for me competes with prediction. So it made some sense to me to pick something which can binefit from more finnese rather than raw strength
06:55:59 Devastator: so what'd you pick?
06:57:49 ER: sort of boring but I can wear it by my side and draw it easy enough
07:00:04 ER: not the main weapon really. That's the six mundane rifles in storage which I can sextuple wield with telekinesis
08:01:52 ER: I wish that I were able to control future me's actions, and yet I would really really hate for past me to tell me what I should be doing
08:03:16 ER: it's like, it would be helpful if I could set a time every day to pursue creative things but I know that when my timer informs me that I should spend an hour writing I'll flip it off
08:09:07 ER has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
08:10:52 syv: It's pretty effective to set a sleeping time and a waking time.
08:31:58 Devastator: Hah, he has the Derek Lowe article on it quoted at one point.
09:49:56 syv: The grass outside is *frozen*
10:50:43 syv: I never walk on frozen grass.
10:50:53 syv: It was a new and unique experience/
12:30:39 syv: Chevalaresse's post hurts :(
