03:15:51 Devastator: welp.
03:15:55 Devastator: Cardquest turn, haven't read it.
03:15:59 Devastator: except the 99 initiative.
03:18:19 ER: tilde
03:20:20 Devastator: welp, that was a cavalcade of failure.
04:43:24 syv has joined #einsteinianroulette
04:45:55 ER: hey Devastator, wanna take part in a totally cool game system test duel? :3
04:46:11 Devastator: whoops.
04:46:13 Devastator: wasn't on.
04:46:15 Devastator: oh hey, that was just now.
04:46:18 syv: Yeah
04:46:24 syv: Perfect timing!
04:46:28 ER: missed it by a second, hehe
04:47:19 Devastator: maybe, but no want complex now.
04:47:21 Devastator: is simple?
04:51:10 ER: I don't even know how I'll run this exactly, so likely will involve vigorous application of 3d6 for now
04:51:30 Devastator: sounds pretty reasonable then.
04:52:08 syv: *3d6 intensifies*
04:53:52 syv: Give me sys
04:53:54 syv: Give me tem
04:54:04 ER: okays
04:55:44 ER: b12 pm with the actually formatted stuff I have so far
04:55:58 ER: 14 levels
04:56:26 ER: might be too much, but that can be tuned later!
04:56:53 ER: if you have at least 1 in guns, you have have a gun. at least 1 in alchemy, you can have an array
04:57:33 ER: you can always start with a melee or ranged weapon of a size you can weild, and things in your pockets
04:58:03 ER: if you want to buy gun parts or phantom powers, I haven't written those yet come up with something and be fair
04:58:36 ER: you can move for 1 action, swift attack for 1 action, heavy attack for 2 or more
04:59:04 ER: summoning phantom lets you and phantom act that turn, but puts you at the bottom of inititive
05:00:13 ER: slapping people around can stagger them and rob them of actions to combo them indefinitately. you get a super mode action which costs 0 actions to break out of getting comboed, while doulbing one of your stats for the turn
05:00:23 syv: Uhhh, first, let's have some direction on how to build a char? How many stat points to invest?
05:00:31 ER: 14
05:00:46 syv: Mmm
05:01:10 syv: Actually, can we roll 7d6, then choose where to put each roll?
05:01:13 syv: 6 being 0
05:01:24 ER: ok
05:01:28 syv: It's been forever since I've played a game like that
05:01:48 ER: though having 0 in the first four stats will be more debiliting than 0 in the last three
05:02:12 syv: 3,3,2,4,6,6,6
05:02:17 syv: well fuck
05:02:22 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:22 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 3 <Total: 3>
05:02:23 ER: nice
05:02:34 Devastator: I'll do the same.
05:02:37 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:37 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 6 <Total: 6>
05:02:39 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:39 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 4 <Total: 4>
05:02:41 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:41 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 1 <Total: 1>
05:02:45 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:45 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 2 <Total: 2>
05:02:47 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:47 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 2 <Total: 2>
05:02:49 Devastator: `roll 1d6
05:02:49 GameServ: Devastator rolled 1d6: 1 <Total: 1>
05:02:56 Devastator: and, as usual, utter trash.
05:03:27 Devastator: translated, that's 4,0,5,2,3,3,2.
05:03:52 syv: 5?
05:04:00 Devastator: a 4 is a 5.
05:04:07 Devastator: you have 4,4,3,5,0,0,0.
05:04:21 syv: I don't see why that would be the case?
05:04:36 Devastator: oh whoops, right, I see.
05:04:38 Devastator: doah.
05:04:41 syv: I just said 6 = 0 because the stat system goes 0-5, and 6=0 is simpler than -1 to all
05:04:42 Devastator: messed up.
05:04:45 ER: should have done 1d6-1
05:04:46 syv: Hehe
05:05:11 Devastator: 3,0,4,1,2,2,1 then.
05:05:13 Devastator: for me.
05:05:15 syv: Yeah, I should've, so I'd have three 5s to play with :v
05:05:20 Devastator: and 3,3,2,4,0,0,0.
05:05:23 Devastator: for you.
05:05:29 syv: Yup
05:05:35 Devastator: you've got the better numbers.
05:05:36 Devastator: ;-p
05:05:52 syv: As is only right and proper -v-
05:06:17 Devastator: it is looking too complicated, though, gah.
05:08:02 ER: srry
05:08:26 ER: I'm just rambling my vague ideas out since I haven't actually put them into rules form
05:08:39 Devastator: is ok just all this stuff.
05:08:55 syv: Stats built
05:09:08 ER: alright. PM?
05:09:30 syv: 4 gun means I have twelve gun attachments?
05:10:03 ER: twelve points worth, with better attachments being worth more? :v
05:10:41 syv: Then I guess I gotta wait until we have mechanics, since I have no clue what's better or worse. :P
05:10:48 ER: and gun tadpoles begin life as zip22s, so really it's more gun part grafting with better barrels and actions and stuff
05:10:59 ER: not just dumb ar15 attachments
05:11:21 syv: I can work with that
05:13:54 syv: Sent PM
05:14:51 Devastator: aww, did you rearrange your numbers?
05:15:18 syv: "(syv) Actually, can we roll 7d6, then choose where to put each roll?"
05:15:55 syv: If you want we can just do by default order, but that seems worse for a test
05:16:41 syv: Also leaves you with 0 speed, vs me having 3...
05:17:25 ER: nice character
05:17:27 Devastator: it doesn't matter.
05:19:50 ER: hey, your stats total 12, which is one total I was considering
05:20:33 syv: Technically Dev has a level on me! But I'm more minmaxed, so...
05:24:09 Devastator: anyway we going?
05:24:38 ER: I guess so. did you send something in?
05:25:28 ER: or could you put your stats in a PM so that I can see them at least? :3
05:27:29 ER: ok
05:28:34 ER: you are in a circular arena with walls formed of screaming boiling blood. inconsequential demons flutter around you, attempting to nibble on you.
05:28:43 ER: you should slaughter one another
05:28:53 ER: go
05:29:21 syv: :v
05:29:26 syv: >Shoot Dev
05:33:43 Devastator: Pull a bullet reflector out from behind me, making the shot rebound.
05:34:25 ER: `roll 3d6
05:34:25 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 6 1 1 <Total: 8>
05:35:12 ER: the gunknight gets off a scattershot, the shotgun purring happily. it only wings his opponent.
05:35:18 ER: `roll 3d6
05:35:18 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 6 3 1 <Total: 10>
05:35:45 ER: which hurts, because he's only wearing a peasant t-shirt
05:35:54 ER: `roll 3d6
05:35:54 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 3 3 6 <Total: 12>
05:36:34 ER: all according to plan, dev holds out a specilized *reverse-time* bullet reflector, causing lead to fly out of his flesh!
05:36:45 ER: `roll 3d6
05:36:45 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 3 1 6 <Total: 10>
05:37:14 ER: Wrannel is knocked back slightly by the pellets, which come back even faster!
05:37:18 ER: > go
05:39:08 syv: :P
05:39:12 syv: >Shoot Dev
05:43:23 Devastator: hmm? Isn't the reflector still up?
05:43:35 Devastator: new action..
05:45:32 Devastator: I'll have the Phantom go harass Wrannel. Phantom has the ability to just punch things.
05:46:59 ER: with dev knocked to the bottom of the turn by summoning his Phantom, Wrannel pumps his shotgun twice to power up his next scatter shot!
05:47:06 ER: `roll 3d6
05:47:06 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 1 4 3 <Total: 8>
05:47:32 ER: `roll 3d6
05:47:32 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 2 4 6 <Total: 12>
05:47:39 syv: Yes, because shotguns are waterguns
05:47:52 ER: it's how it works in Ultrakill
05:48:42 ER: the bullet deflector deflects the bullets! Wrannel is thrown back by the force, into the bloodwall! combo initirated.
05:49:11 ER: Dev sends out his Phantom, to just punch Wrannel once.
05:49:16 ER: `roll 3d6
05:49:16 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 3 4 6 <Total: 13>
05:49:34 ER: Wrannel is punched into the bloodwall again!
05:49:44 ER: > go! continue combo!
05:50:07 Devastator: Even with no speed?
05:50:29 ER: you hit him hard and have two moves now
05:50:39 ER: from the phantom
05:51:00 syv: I think the bullet reflector functionally allowed you to mimic having speed
05:51:22 syv: Two attacks hit me, one that had been charged twice
05:51:57 Devastator: sweet.
05:52:18 Devastator: okay, I grapple and the phantom punches again.
05:52:27 ER: what I've learned is that Mind can beat a single minded opponent, with some risk because it's a Test
05:52:47 ER: `roll 3d6
05:52:47 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 4 6 3 <Total: 13>
05:52:54 ER: `roll 3d6
05:52:54 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 2 3 1 <Total: 6>
05:53:03 Devastator: another idea was using Mind to manipulate the environment, like making a jet of fire come out under Wrannel.
05:53:31 ER: you grab Wrannel and your phantom punches you in the balls! You are staggered easily!
05:53:42 ER: > go!
05:55:09 syv: > Swing shotgun up into a stylish pose while lovingly carressing its wufflesnak organ, activating its secret full-auto mode. Which I guess means it pumps itself. Then leap atop Dev's shade, and shoot it in the face. Repeatedly.
05:55:47 ER: `roll 3d6
05:55:47 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 3 3 1 <Total: 7>
05:56:21 ER: you cannot move, as you're still being grappled! Your gun is happy, though.
05:56:24 Devastator: Go for the spinning piledriver.
05:56:41 ER: > go, no combos
05:57:13 Devastator: Go for the spinning piledriver
05:57:27 syv: >Take grenade out of pocket, pull the pin
05:58:54 ER: Wrannel reaches into his pocket only to discover that his mind stat is 0 and thus he cannot conjure needed items from nothing!
05:59:00 ER: `roll 3d6
05:59:00 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 1 4 2 <Total: 7>
05:59:10 syv: "Damn, I'm actually dumb"
05:59:15 ER: Dev kind of flops over
06:00:05 syv: Am I still grappled? :P
06:00:33 ER: I suppose?
06:00:36 ER: > go
06:01:11 syv: >Break grapple, then once grapple is broken, grab and steal the bullet reflector
06:04:43 Devastator: Exchange my weight for the weight of Golden Boy's platemail, letting me get up easily while dragging Armour Guy to the ground, hard.
06:07:12 ER: `roll 3d6
06:07:12 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 2 5 5 <Total: 12>
06:07:36 ER: Wrannel rolls out of the grapple and happens to be holding the bullet reflector!
06:07:48 ER: `roll3d6
06:07:54 ER: `roll 3d6
06:07:54 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 6 4 5 <Total: 15>
06:08:53 ER: All according to plan! Dev pulls out a little occult device from his shirt pocket, an Array. Suddenly he becomes very light and Wrannel's armor becomes heavy!
06:08:56 ER: > go?
06:09:27 Devastator: Axe Kick!
06:09:33 syv: Equip bullet deflector, shoot Dev. Repeatedly.
06:22:24 ER: ahem
06:22:27 ER: where was I?
06:22:34 Devastator: Axe Kick!
06:22:40 ER: shoots first
06:22:48 Devastator: even while heavy?
06:22:49 ER: `roll 3d6
06:22:49 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 4 6 5 <Total: 15>
06:23:15 ER: Dev takes a scattershot! axe kick delayed!
06:23:20 ER: `roll 3d6
06:23:20 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 3 2 6 <Total: 11>
06:23:38 ER: a slightly less satisfying hit
06:23:46 ER: > go!
06:24:42 Devastator: After the kick, use my second item to drink a final fantasy healing potion.
06:27:35 syv: >Continue to shoot repeatedly
06:28:03 ER: `roll 3d6
06:28:03 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 4 6 2 <Total: 12>
06:28:14 ER: `roll 3d6
06:28:14 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 2 4 4 <Total: 10>
06:28:22 ER: `roll 3d6
06:28:22 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 5 1 1 <Total: 7>
06:28:44 ER: hmm, give me a hail mary mind test
06:28:49 ER: `roll 3d6
06:28:50 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 5 6 6 <Total: 17>
06:28:58 ER: ...well, that is a 17
06:29:54 ER: Wrannel shoots Dev to death! Except, with a grin, Dev isn't dead. In fact, everything is back to square one, and he knows more!
06:30:03 ER: > go!
06:30:07 Devastator: Back to Punchinello, then.
06:30:17 Devastator: (Since I'm gonna get no action otherwise.)
06:30:25 Devastator: Resummon the shade and have it hit Wrannel.
06:30:51 ER: I should probably tell players that having 0 body or speed is a bad time
06:32:14 Devastator: Lightness should probably bump it past zero.
06:32:25 Devastator: maybe a one-point swap from that.
06:32:38 Devastator: 1 vs 2 means only one action before the second one.
06:32:59 Devastator: ie, Wrannel -> Dev -> Wrannel.
06:33:43 Devastator: but yes, less speed is a bad time.
06:40:57 syv: >Continue to shoot?
06:41:15 ER: attack staleness!
06:41:20 ER: `roll 3d6-2
06:41:20 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 5 2 6 <Total: 13(-2) = 11>
06:41:34 ER: well, it worked anyways, I guess???
06:41:53 ER: this doesn't really work without mechanics
06:42:48 ER: if I wanted to roll everything I'd need stats more represenative of the things you're doing, and probably shorter fights
06:44:41 syv: Yes.
06:45:44 ER: `roll 3d6
06:45:44 GameServ: ER rolled 3d6: 3 4 1 <Total: 8>
06:46:05 ER: wrannel rolls better, and wins!
06:46:20 syv: classic
06:48:17 Devastator: ayr
07:09:53 ER: hmmm
07:10:07 ER: turns out, combat systems are probably hard to make
07:13:02 syv: Can't empathize, I keep accidentally making make
07:13:24 ER: I mean, you make them
07:13:32 ER: but do they end up in a playable state?
07:13:55 syv: Define playable
07:14:31 ER: creates interesting results for the players while not causing you to go mad
07:14:39 ER: that is "better than fudging it"
07:15:32 syv: Well they rarely make me go mad, and usually people seem to have fun, and complete an encounter.
07:15:40 syv: I'm still a fan of the Sekiro combat system.
07:16:33 Devastator: Shadows that die twice?
07:17:05 ER: well syv, if you want to help me design a system for this, we should... do that sometime
07:17:10 syv: Shadows that attack twice
07:17:10 ER: I'm sleepy
07:17:34 syv: My Sekiro system was notable mostly for the dual wield mechanics, which Sekiro is entirely lacking.
07:21:03 ER: it seems like there'd be a way to have turns happen in a neat interleaved way based on speed but I dunno what it is
07:22:16 Devastator: The classic method is an energy system.
07:22:56 syv: Interleaving is a bad idea, IMO. It makes things more unpredictable for players and difficult to work around. I'd budget X actions per turn, and if you want to take them before another ally, you can, and if you want to go entirely after, you can.
07:24:04 syv: Also, maxed speed having 500% as many actions available as min speed is absurd and broken. It should be a much smaller gradiant, prolly with either breakpoints or alternating buffs/debuffs
07:27:09 ER: I mean, I don't want odd levels to be worse or something
07:27:40 ER: and a 5 speed physics breaking superhuman being merely 3 times faster than 0 speed feels wrong
07:29:02 syv: 0 - combo debuff, one action. 1 - no debuff, one action. 2 - combo debuff, two actions. 3 - no debuff, two actions. 4 - combo debuff, three actions. 5 - no debuff, three actions
07:29:54 syv: And if you aren't okay with the strongest players being only three times as fast as the slowest players... that in itself might be a problem.
07:30:33 syv: That's already a pretty extreme advantage, since actions can also be considered decent proxies for "how much do you get to play the game?"
07:36:51 ER: I feel like each level of every other stat also increases your options a bunch
07:39:40 ER: gaining a debuff for getting a level feel really odd
07:40:27 syv: How I like to think of it is pushing yourself to go faster than you can really control. But yeah, it's not ideal.
07:41:08 syv: Having two action types would also work. Level 0 just gets a normal standard action, level 1 gets a standard + swift,
07:41:22 syv: Level 2 gets two standard, 3 gets 2 standard 1 swift, etc
07:41:46 syv: With swift here meaning something like "half action".
07:41:57 ER: for the first four stats, having a 1 means you're boring and having a 0 means you suck
07:42:34 ER: and I don't know how to balance "you suck" speed in a way where it doesn't mean you'll probaly die unless you do some crazy stuff with your other stats
07:43:04 ER: I was figuring that 1 action *was* basically half action
07:43:54 ER: so that plan is essentially the same as it was but increasing the baseline, right?
07:44:21 ER: well, say they're action points, at 0 you have 2 and each level thereon gives you 1 more
07:44:28 ER: up to 7
07:44:29 syv: Higher baseline and making it explicit that 0 speed is Very Bad would work, I guess
07:45:54 ER: ok
07:45:54 ER: Speed
07:45:55 ER: How fast you go. Really, it's as simple as that. Speed plus two equals the number of actions you can do in a combat round. Test Speed to move or react quickly.
07:45:55 ER: 0: Lumbering. You can barely move and will probably die
07:45:55 ER: 1: You move deliberately. Better hope you deliberate correctly.
07:45:55 ER: 2: A normal, boring level of speed.
07:45:55 ER: 3: You move and react with a trained ease.
07:45:56 ER: 4: You can be hard to track when moving.
07:45:56 ER: 5: You seem to disappear and reappear, moving faster than you can be seen.
07:49:38 ER: mrrr
07:49:44 ER: I gotta sleep
07:50:18 syv: Goodnight

20:04:46 Devastator: How's paranoia going, ER?
20:36:51 Devastator: mmm, Kaz added a message to the Prequel page.
20:47:21 ER: yup
20:48:07 ER: well, I accomplished my objective in paranoia, behind the scenes. now it's a matter of not dying
20:49:06 ER: saw the murder robot coming to kill me, stowed the box before it got there, respawned after it killed me and then avoided the team for a little while to get the box and deliver it
20:49:50 ER: then got a new box, stowed it somewhere, got back to the team and informed them that I'd stowed the box somewhere so that the evil traitor robot wouldn't be able to get it
20:50:22 ER: ...the initial box was described as being sealed with nails, this one was specifically described as being sealed with staples.
20:50:33 Devastator: Slick work, btw.
20:50:43 ER: heh, it worked out
20:50:46 Devastator: You still have the objective of blaming someone else.
20:50:52 ER: cost me a life and a shot thouggh
20:51:03 Devastator: please, sounds like a great trade, that.
20:51:10 ER: can probably blame robot guy
20:55:51 Devastator: Sorry, meant 'blamming' someone else.
20:57:32 ER: well, someone already tried to blam him for his clearly traitorous robot but the blaster refused it so I ain't gonna try
21:08:36 Devastator: Yay, wolf stuff!
21:08:59 Devastator: (I'll do it after syv gives orders.)
21:12:52 Devastator: should totally be able to follow around zombie-boy.
21:20:58 ER: pondering if the enemy will have any smell, though
21:21:21 ER: well, they should once they start bleeding~
21:29:32 Devastator: Mmm.. no, they wouldn't.
21:29:44 Devastator: no sound either, they're completely silent.
21:29:52 Devastator: although you might make out a small sound from their weapons.
21:44:39 ER: *grumbles*
22:01:17 Devastator: heh.
22:03:44 ER: I've got wolf senses but these creatures are apparently anthropocentric in terms of how they can be sensed~
22:27:00 Devastator: Eh, you just aren't in the right place.
22:27:04 Devastator: they are smelly. ;-p
22:28:18 Devastator: They're just not actually here.
22:57:11 ER: sound hard to stab
22:57:38 ER: well, maybe I can pierce one and tether through the chain
22:57:46 ER: to have a bizzare adventure
23:12:02 Devastator: well, one did get smashed.
23:12:05 Devastator: so something happened.
