03:00:38 Devastator: 'a drink will not help us in balttle'
03:01:05 ER: I don't want a potion I want a tasty drink
03:01:28 ER: tasty drinks are not SUPPOSED to help you in battle!
03:07:52 Devastator: you know, they should have both coffee and hot chocolate here.
03:08:00 Devastator: and maybe cold chocolate.
03:08:43 Devastator: but yeah, lowland tulians do the plantation thing.
03:08:52 Devastator: tropical cultivation.

03:38:16 Devastator: very good thing to not bet into those buzzsaws.
03:44:02 syv: I uploaded the video for my WR.
03:45:16 syv: I forget if I talked about it here, but this is an improvement over the first time I commented on it.
03:45:24 Devastator: you mentioned that you set the record.
03:45:28 syv: Officially triple the speed of the last WR.
03:46:12 syv: When I posted it in Optix, Incendium, who made the map, responded with "holy shit wtf"
03:46:14 syv: She thought the best possible time would be around 300s
03:46:50 Devastator: Also, is that Mami?
03:48:08 syv: I've been using that skin for two years now, I think?
03:49:01 Devastator: the yellow line really helps you follow the map.
03:49:21 Devastator: that ending looks really rough.
03:50:27 syv: Yeah, this map is really well designed for a full lava map.
03:51:04 syv: The ending (after the last green box) is really not so bad, there's nothing I have to go through backwards.
03:51:05 Devastator: it looks tough. That input dancing, too..
03:52:13 syv: The first 45 seconds is hard, because I've optimized it the most heavily (dying there is a quick restart), but the hardest segment is after the second green box, where I died. Too much moving backwards and stopping with no real visual reference.
03:53:36 syv: That's really the hardest thing on this map. Since there's no speed caps in the game, and acceleration varies on how much you maintain, it becomes *very* difficult to intuitively know how far you've traveled when you're not looking in front of yourself.
03:54:26 syv: I have spent a lot of time practicing making the movements very, very consistent, and that helps... but it's still guesswork, and I don't have it any better than a ~20% success rate.
03:55:54 Devastator: how'd the cursed maps thing go over?
03:57:24 syv: Which thing are you referring to, specifically?
03:57:30 syv: I've made a few "cursed" maps.
03:58:45 Devastator: the ones that did the moving map-bits thing to make them very unintuitive.
04:00:02 syv: Amusement, and some people being impressed at what's possible.
04:00:26 syv: Never made anything that was really good enough to play on seriously though, so it was essentially just a neat shitpost.
04:00:54 syv: I have some ideas on legitimately cool maps to make using those tricks, but they're all work intensive.
04:01:09 syv: To the tune of "write a custom python program that does the math required"
04:01:13 Devastator: just let me imagine a world somewhere where the best player has a video going 'what the hell is this map', while dying over and over again.
04:01:37 ER: zero gravity map inside of a giant spinning wheel
04:02:10 syv: That may be sort-of possible
04:02:51 syv: Zero gravity isn't an available option without modding the actual game client, but I can make a map where everything is going downwards.
04:03:24 Devastator: there'd be some issues with constant acceleration applied to the map.
04:03:27 syv: Would need to convince Order to make that an option. Which isn't unreasonable, IIRC gravity is just a float.
04:03:39 Devastator: that might be doable, then.
04:04:28 syv: It's amusing/sad. Modding gravity is simple. Modding gravity *only within one game mode* probably requires rewriting gravity and possibly game modes.
04:04:44 syv: Which is far more difficult than it has any right to be.
04:05:21 Devastator: can't move it into a better construct?
04:05:25 Devastator: and I'm not a programmer.
04:06:58 syv: Apparently, by default, something like 80% of the game is written into one C# method.
04:07:28 syv: MKII may be the improved version that's only 30% of the game.
04:08:35 syv: String and spit with at least three separate layers of duct tape and rivets.
04:08:58 ER: that's why they're building a sequel, right
04:09:27 syv: Feng wrote the base game, Feng patched various things, RC decompiled and modded it heavily, others have patched over top of decompiled (!)
RC.
04:10:08 syv: And as far as I know not a single one of the people in the chain, besides maybe the last one, is actually good at writing clean code.
04:10:37 syv: Though at this point AoTTG 2 will probably die.
04:10:44 syv: I have very little hope for it.

06:18:06 Devastator: It might be a bit weird for dragon-kid too.
