00:35:18 er: It would seem as though Fern.exe is experiencing difficulties
02:36:02 Devastator: and whoops, what's his name showed up.
02:48:18 Devastator: We might get some plot!
05:02:24 Devastator: mmm, high-cha seductive..
05:02:35 Devastator: I'll have to make you write a description. ;-p
05:14:10 MidJag_ has joined #einsteinianroulette
05:16:04 MidJag_: Ah, sorry to hear that
05:16:13 Devastator: need to fix something tomorrow and I don't ahve the stuff I need for it.
05:38:01 Devastator: so we going to watch anything?
05:42:23 Devastator: did you ever get a chance to read any Extinction,
MidJag_?
05:42:42 MidJag_: I don't belive I ever finisehd it
05:45:05 Midjag: And I dunno, I'm just not in the mood for some reason. Which is weird, but eh. Been a long week. Been trying to get my experiment off the ground and it feels kinda like I'm trying to fly by strapping feathers to my arms and flapping really hard.
05:47:04 Midjag: On the plus side, my proffesors main project is now finished with the labor intensive part, so maybe now I won't be fighting with like 30 things for her rather limited time.
05:47:52 Devastator: otoh, it's good to have professors doing actual work.
05:48:03 Midjag: My professor is pretty much me if I was about 2 inches shorter, female and a full professor.
05:49:28 Midjag: Yeah, it is cool, my proffesors great, she's just really busy and ends up overbooking herself.
05:49:52 Midjag: Which I can't complain about because do that myself.
05:52:19 Devastator: mmm, I do like that I gave the minibosses grandiose titles.
05:53:15 Devastator: yes. It's amusing to me to type out "Carina of the Starry Skies" when her name comes up.
05:56:48 Devastator: Carina of the Starry Skies.
05:56:55 Devastator: Arngrim the Mountain Hammer.
05:57:05 Devastator: Doren of Mossberg, the Magister Arcane.
05:57:15 Devastator: and Spar Hessom, the First Sword of Valterre.
05:58:20 Devastator: I wasn't thinking of Game of Thrones when I wrote that, but gah.
05:58:36 Devastator: She even is curly-haired and somewhat short, gah.
05:58:45 Midjag: I've never actually read those books, or whatched the show.
05:59:49 Devastator: It's a character who is on about ten pages, or five minutes of screentime, and is one of the most memorable characters.
06:00:28 Midjag: This guy looks memorable
06:01:43 Devastator: oh god is he memorable.
06:03:29 Midjag: I'm borrowing some of this guys mannerisms for a DND char I play. He's that mixture of incredibly competent, charming, and insufferable.
06:04:15 Devastator: do get to the end of the video first.
06:07:25 Devastator: Apparently Maisie Williams, the kid, is right-handed IRL.
06:11:04 Midjag: I can see why he's one of the most memorable chars
06:11:12 Midjag: And he's only in those 3 scenes?
06:16:02 Midjag: Did you ever read codex alera?
06:18:03 Devastator: I have, but it wasn't that thorough.
06:18:19 Devastator: didn't keep my attention that well.
06:18:21 Midjag: No I was thinking of the metal bender.
06:18:37 Midjag: Called Fade or soemthing?
06:18:43 Midjag: Guy just reminded of that.
06:21:34 Midjag: I did like the magic system in Codex alera.
06:23:29 Devastator: not a super fan of clap your hands for worldbuilding, but it was fun on an individual level.
06:24:05 Midjag: The worldbuiliding was just kinda eh, but the magic system itself was fun. and the blood gnolls were....intresting at least.
06:26:20 Devastator: also amused that it was written due to basically a drunken bet.
06:26:37 Midjag: Yes, that really did carry a lot of the book when you realize that.
06:29:58 Devastator: updated extinction.
06:31:25 Midjag: I still my favorite scene in that book is when the dude metal bends armor into him and the book is like yeah, this is a terrible idea, but since metalbenders have insanse pain tolerance sometimes they're crazy enough to try it.
06:32:47 Devastator: that's what you call narratively a 'bad power'
06:33:13 Midjag: I still think the best power in that was the waterbending.
06:33:26 Devastator: mmm, yeah, generally.
06:33:27 Midjag: They're healers who have insanse close combat capabiliites.
06:33:33 Devastator: other than the protags, of course.
06:33:59 Midjag: And his beast bonded girlfriend with powers I can only vaguelly rember.
06:37:32 Devastator: mmm, I do forget too.
06:38:11 Midjag: Yeah, I know she had soemthing to do with beasts? Or forests or something, but I just can't rember what the hell she did with them
06:38:33 Midjag: The spy guy with the obvious name was fun. Fidelus or whatever
06:39:29 Devastator: I think that whole series suffers badly from the main character being the least interesting person.
06:39:50 Midjag: ...Yeah, it kinda does.
06:40:05 Devastator: I mean, it would have been much more fun if he didn't get magic.
06:40:06 Midjag: The most fun parts of that book are where it's looking at people who aren't tavi
06:41:49 Midjag: Did you ever read the traitor son cycle/
06:42:49 Midjag: I think you'd like it. Very gritty fantasy, and by gritty I mean the dude who wrote it is obssesive about accurcary, and slapped some magic in there too.
06:43:09 Devastator: currently got a novel on order right now, actually.
06:44:55 Devastator: "Sidewinders" but Robert V.S. Redick
06:46:58 Devastator: It's moderately hard fantasy with one of the most amusing premises I've seen.
06:47:07 Devastator: The first book in the series is called "Master Assassins"
06:48:25 Devastator: Searching for the right words, just a sec..
06:48:49 Devastator: "What if you accidently murdered God's son?"
06:49:01 Devastator: "And then your brother does the same to her other son?"
06:49:02 Midjag: That is quite the premise
06:49:18 Devastator: It really is 'What if you had the single unluckiest day ever?'
06:49:35 Midjag: And you and your brother have to flee the wrath of a vengful god?
06:49:55 Devastator: And her 250,000 holy warriors, who are currently on three wars of conquest.
06:50:25 Midjag: Some kind of the classic brothers fleeing shit story, just mixed in with just sheer lunacy.
06:50:41 Devastator: Yeah. The two brothers are also pretty interesting.
06:50:50 Devastator: only downside is the other two people with them are slightly less so.
06:51:11 Devastator: They make a good pairing, but the others demand a bit more flashbacks, use up a bit more time.. make it less focuses.
06:51:28 Devastator: ie, it's not bad, but they aren't quite as good, so they don't help.
06:51:53 Devastator: Basically there's a smart brother and a crazy brother, and they're both absolutely necessary to make it.
06:52:10 Midjag: Heh, I think I would enjoy this book immeneslly then
06:52:19 Devastator: Yeah, you mgiht want to read it, it's pretty good.
06:52:37 Devastator: but really, it's just about the worst day I've ever seen anyone have in fiction.
06:53:10 Devastator: but yeah, the crazy brother kills the second Prophet's Son, and he acts normal for about fifteen minutes or so.
06:53:24 Devastator: all 'what the hell are they going to do to me.'
06:53:51 Devastator: one of the other companions says bascially..
06:54:21 Devastator: 'one and they send out hunting parties and basically holy guardians, who are essentially magic-buffed fanatics on vehicle-sized sand lions.
06:54:26 Devastator: 'two and I don't even know'
06:55:02 Devastator: I wouldn't call it perfect but it's pretty good, glad I read it.
06:55:16 Devastator: and it is the kinda plot I like.
06:55:30 Midjag: It certainly sounds like it.
06:55:45 Midjag: I think it would enjoy it purelly because of the fraternal relations.
06:57:46 Devastator: yeah. They're really good next to each other.
09:16:38 Devastator: I suspect 'dragon memory' will be the popular choice.
