00:03:04 Elastic_Ridicule is now known as ER
02:34:31 Devastator: hello ER.
02:34:40 ER: hallo
02:40:34 Devastator: mmm, food.
02:40:52 ER: foood
02:41:52 Devastator: yes.
02:41:59 Devastator: looks like Trence is gonna be fighting.
02:42:03 Devastator: now I need to make up 12 ships. ;-p
02:42:21 ER: just fight everybody, it'll be fine
02:42:54 Devastator: ALL THE BOTES.
02:43:05 Devastator: have to see if you run into the boss too.
02:43:08 Devastator: bosses.
02:43:29 ER: yeah, I went this way cause of course we gotta fight the bonus boss
02:44:47 Devastator: well, if you do die, you can reload.
02:44:59 ER: https://darkestdungeon.gamepedia.com/Brigand_Vvulf
02:48:32 Devastator: mmm
02:59:47 ER: watching a speedrun for spelunky 2's ulta final secret route :P
03:00:03 Devastator: that the last secret?
03:00:23 ER: what the last secret?
03:00:39 Devastator: The ultra final secret.
03:00:57 ER: it's the last one I know of!
03:01:43 ER: probably not anything after world 7 ;P
03:07:02 Devastator: World 8.
03:07:12 ER: presumably
03:07:16 Devastator: numbers just keep going up.
03:07:34 ER: if there were unlimited content, yes
04:43:29 Devastator: owlboy is fun.
04:43:36 ER: yeah?
04:43:59 Devastator: these dungeons are longer than I expected.
04:44:05 Devastator: just fought blob-robot.
05:19:48 Devastator: and now the worm.
05:19:50 Devastator: huh.
05:40:47 ER: wyrm
05:52:54 Devastator: dunno.
05:53:03 Devastator: maaybe?
05:53:37 ER: I forgot most things about that game but I don't really wanna play again either :P
05:53:44 Devastator: heh.
05:53:53 Devastator: I'm getting tempted to try and 100% it, buuut.
05:53:56 Devastator: Nah.
05:54:09 Devastator: That starry cape calls to me.
05:54:20 ER: that would be annoying without a walktrhough
05:54:31 Devastator: I've got four areas.
05:54:53 Devastator: Also, all the hats are ugly.
05:54:54 Devastator: ;-p
05:59:12 Devastator: and got two of those medallion thingies.
05:59:49 Devastator: think I missed at least one more.
06:04:03 Devastator: very fun game, though.
06:04:06 Devastator: well worth the buy.
06:05:02 Devastator: difficulty is just right, one step above trivial.
06:05:44 ER: see, I usually don't enjoy that level
06:06:01 Devastator: sometimes I want it a lot harder, but it's just what I was looking for.
06:17:16 Devastator: back to it.
06:27:54 MidJag has joined #einsteinianroulette
06:27:58 MidJag: lo
06:28:28 ER: hello
06:31:10 MidJag: how're you?
06:31:56 ER: what do you want with that question
06:33:46 MidJag: A general statment of how your day has been?
06:34:24 Devastator: heya.
06:34:33 Devastator: okay, now this cannon thing is a couple notches up.
06:36:34 Devastator: very annoying that the controls are reversed.
06:36:59 Devastator: Left is owlboy trying to turn right.
06:38:26 MidJag: That does seem confusing
06:38:44 Devastator: Every single time.
06:39:04 Devastator: every single time it goes back to me trying to steer the character rather than rote memorization I flip back to the normal orientation.
06:39:17 MidJag: mmm
06:40:21 MidJag: I got some more secondaries in. Only three left to go.
06:40:39 MidJag: Then it just turns into waiting.
06:41:03 Devastator: Yay.
06:41:08 Devastator: oh phew, got past that part.
06:41:10 Devastator: can now just drop.
06:52:07 Devastator: ..yeah, I don't think I can do this.
07:00:05 Devastator: ..and clear.
07:00:09 Devastator: but there's a secret.
07:04:25 Devastator: nope, not a secret, that's the launch platform.
07:08:17 MidJag: Heh
07:09:40 Devastator: yeah, you get shot out of a cannon.
07:09:45 Devastator: well, this looks like the end boss.
07:09:47 Devastator: stream?
07:09:53 Devastator: (or the last dungeon.)
07:10:26 MidJag: Sounds fun
07:10:40 ER: I doubt you've gotten that far by now
07:11:09 MidJag: Eh, sure I'll watch a bit.
07:11:21 Devastator: believe what you want..
07:11:26 Devastator: stream's up.
07:14:43 MidJag: That is one immortal companion
07:14:53 Devastator: they all are..
07:14:58 Devastator: you can toss them into lava in the previous level.
07:15:05 MidJag: heh
07:16:02 MidJag: I gotta say ER, this does feel final bossy
07:23:53 Devastator: huh.
07:23:55 Devastator: what am I missing..
07:24:09 MidJag: I'm not sure honestlly
07:24:51 Devastator: I seem to be stuck between three locked doors. Maybe I kill these?
07:26:25 MidJag has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
07:30:30 Devastator: there we go.
07:30:58 MidJag has joined #einsteinianroulette

07:31:55 MidJag: hah
07:32:00 MidJag: Speedrun strats
07:35:57 Devastator: Aww.
07:36:04 Devastator: almost managed to smuggle an item into the bossfigth.
07:36:14 Devastator: but owlboy is incapable of dropping something without breaking it.
07:36:15 MidJag: Yeah. I think I'm going to bed.
07:36:17 Devastator: kk
07:36:27 MidJag: night
07:36:28 MidJag has left #einsteinianroulette
07:44:04 Devastator: whoops, out of bounds.

08:04:27 Devastator: that would be correct.
08:09:10 Devastator: maybe I should try to 100% it, then..
08:09:25 Devastator: (well, I missed a chest in the previous stage, so..)
08:20:08 Devastator: Preparing for extinction.
08:20:13 Devastator: the fucking drama dice, I swear.

09:08:40 Devastator: how are you doing today?
09:08:55 syv: Complex.
09:09:14 syv: A kind of determined melancholy frustration?
09:09:36 syv: 2/3 of those are negative, which doesn't really fit.
09:09:43 Devastator: "I'm frustrated, but only through sheer effort!"
09:10:24 syv: I was gonna say no, but actually yeah, kinda.
09:11:24 syv: It's not that I can't make progress, but that progress is time gated and I want to do moooore.
09:11:38 Devastator: hah.
09:11:40 Devastator: progress on what?

14:01:20 er: Not sure if I like it!
14:03:30 syv: Hmmm.

16:39:47 Devastator: And there will be cake, presumably.
16:46:43 syv: He's down to 11% win chance according to 538.
16:47:08 syv: Though that's barely better than yesterday, where it was a 12% chance. Now there's just a 1% tie chance.
16:47:12 Devastator: yeah, there was an outlier poll in Wis the other day. Biden +17.
16:47:20 syv: Ahhh.
16:47:51 Devastator: ..but, looking at it, I think the NYT polls are lowballing Biden. All their samples are +2-4% reported vote for Trump, over the 2016 results.
16:48:38 syv: To parrot 538, Trump's made gains among people of color.
16:48:54 syv: Though his approval *is* way lower.
16:49:51 Devastator: yeah. what seems to be, quite literally, the anti-woman black man vote.
16:50:14 syv: Hmm.
16:50:31 syv: Man, he seemed to sink to current approval months after election, actually.
16:50:53 Devastator: For latinos, it seems to be them and some of the devoted religious ones.
16:51:06 Devastator: Yeah, there was some initial optimism which he pissed away.
16:51:09 syv: Yeah, and cubans over here.
16:51:24 syv: That's a *very* solid repub block though, so prolly not much of a shift.
16:52:09 Devastator: Socialism! Socialism! Socialism! Now watch as I dictate terms as to what the press is allowed to publish, and promise massive spending to buy votes.
16:52:31 syv: Hmm?
16:52:59 Devastator: oh, thought that was the rallying call to make sure cubans vote for him.
16:53:13 Devastator: lie about 'socialism' and pretend that he isn't the one promising dictatorship.
16:53:41 syv: Far as I know, they just *really* hate dems.
16:54:01 syv: But I'm no expert.
16:55:20 syv: I don't know any cubans, too far north of the main population centers.
16:55:33 syv: Also, social isolation.
16:56:43 syv: Reading the article on the 17 point poll.
16:57:30 syv: I find it interesting how they kinda refer to the model with this kind of semi... reverential tone.
16:58:27 syv: Like "This is the model, that which speaks truth". Prolly mostly because their editors don't really grok how it works on the inside, I suppose.
16:59:52 Devastator: huh, doesn't come across as that to me.
17:00:57 Devastator: "Here's why outlier polls like this are a normal result of proper polling" "Here's how it affects our model." "Here's three other recent polls that are only slightly less of an outlier than that one."
17:01:41 syv: Yeah, articles talking about it specifically definitely show understanding of it.
17:01:45 Devastator: then "Here's our guess as to why things might have swung a bit in Wisconsin, which is currently having 32% positivity rates in their testing."
17:01:55 Devastator: nah, I mean the one on that poll..
17:02:13 Devastator: doesn't seem too worshipful of the model, although it does refer to it.
17:02:28 syv: But some of them which use it as an example come off to me as using it as a source of knowledge in itself.
17:03:05 syv: The specific bit which reminded me of that was the bit where they say "our forecast now has a 51 chance of Biden winning here"
17:03:10 syv: Iowa, I think it was.
17:04:49 Devastator: Mmm, could win Iowa.
17:05:24 syv: Which was true beforehand.
17:05:40 syv: Swinging up a couple points isn't particularly notable.
17:05:50 Devastator: I can kinda see what you're saying with that line.
17:06:30 syv: It's also been something I've felt for awhile, some of their podcasts have come off that way.
17:06:50 Devastator: mmm.
17:06:58 Devastator: I don't listen to their podcasts.
17:07:14 syv: I've found that it's pretty nice to listen to while playing a game.
17:07:33 syv: I like hearing about the stuff, and they're generally pretty positive.
17:09:48 Devastator: mmm
17:12:33 Devastator: Here's the reassuring one.
17:12:35 Devastator: https://electproject.github.io/Early-Vote-2020G/index.html
17:15:46 er: I already voted, so if we lose it's now everybody else's fault
17:15:54 Devastator: heh.
17:15:59 er: Now there's reassurement!
17:16:07 er: I feel much better already

17:23:41 syv: Not very high in Penn, though.
17:24:34 syv: ...Huh, a lot of NPA.
17:28:53 syv: 11/17
17:29:19 syv: Last one was just a depressing bare metal box with some pots in the bottom.
17:29:27 syv: Trump.
17:33:47 syv: Aww, 12% of people said they didn't have enough food. :(
18:20:21 er: Mmmmm
18:20:26 er: Good morning
18:21:21 er: Hope you're well
18:29:00 syv: Good morning.

19:13:11 ER: this spelunky 2 speedrun category is amusing in a way that I'm not sure if I should spoil
19:19:07 syv: How long is a speedrun?
19:19:26 ER: this one is 1 hour 17
19:19:28 syv: Or is the category itself a spoiler?
19:19:53 ER: let's say it's much, much longer than any%
19:20:16 syv: PM a link?
19:20:24 syv: I don't play Spelunky and likely never will.
19:27:34 syv: I want to see Noita speedruns.
19:27:52 ER: those would likely be fun
19:40:25 ER: wonder why crtl-tab brings me backwards in tabs rather than forwards in hyrda irc
19:40:41 ER: wait, now it's forwards
19:40:49 ER: am I just dumb
19:41:46 ER: huh, the order in which it sends you through tabs isn't the same as the order in which the tabs are displayed
19:42:14 syv: History?
20:52:56 ER: just look to history
21:23:20 ER: hmm
21:23:42 ER: I don't think I've written this out yet.
21:25:00 ER: so, for helljackers, everybody has a stand they can summon which has powers and stuff.
21:25:07 syv: BRB.
21:25:17 ER: that's fine
21:25:23 syv has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
21:25:28 sy has joined #einsteinianroulette
21:25:33 ER: gotta think while writing this out anyways :P
21:26:32 ER: players have two stats which govern this, Determination for how much Hellpower they can hold max, which is like mana.
21:27:13 ER: Shadow for how many points they get to buy powers.
21:28:12 sy: Helljacker is about invading Hell to kill and replace the rulers?
21:28:15 ER: Summoning your phantom is basically a free action, but on the turn you summon it you get a big malus to initiative.
21:28:19 sy: Like an unsexy Helltaker?
21:28:23 sy is now known as syv
21:28:32 ER: not necessarilly unsexy!
21:28:38 ER: though probably more violent
21:28:47 syv: Murder isn't sexy.
21:29:56 ER: having your phantom out costs 1 Hellpower per turn, and it can use one active power and as many passive powers as you have each turn.
21:30:22 syv: Oooh
21:31:20 ER: while your phantom is out, both it and you can do actions, but things you do with your actual body get a malus to the roll because you're focusing on the phantom
21:31:49 ER: phantom can take damage, but it doesn't persist between summonings
21:33:17 ER: at chargen/levelup, you can pay one extra point to make a power Innate, which lets you use it without summoning your phantom, at a flat cost of 1 Hellpower. This is less efficient becayse if you use the phantom you can use many passives in the same turn for that same cost
21:33:54 ER: but it would let you bypass the initiate malus, focus malus, and lets you give your main body the binefit of passives.
21:34:31 syv: How expensive are passives? Same flat 1 HP per turn?
21:34:40 syv: ...Uh
21:34:57 syv: Maybe call it something other than "Hell Power".
21:35:06 ER: aww
21:35:12 syv: "Hell Charge"?
21:35:21 syv: Just to get away from "HP"
21:35:42 ER: what? it's just horsepower ;P
21:35:54 syv: Helldrive?
21:36:07 syv: Hell Liters?
21:36:11 ER: it will also be useful for not dying, so it's appropriate
21:36:12 syv: Hell Gallons?
21:36:19 syv: Aww
21:36:30 syv: Well, still.
21:36:30 ER: HPA: HELLPOWA
21:37:30 ER: so, costs 1 HPA for a turn of Phantom, and they can use as many powers in that turn as you like, so long as it's not multiple Actives
21:37:59 ER: and it costs 1 HPA to activate 1 Innate power on yourself
21:38:42 ER: HPA doesn't regenerate naturally, you need to get it from demons and potions and such
21:40:10 ER: I don't have a list of powers, but some of them will cost more than 1 xp
21:40:54 ER: and it's probably not called xp but that gets the point accross better than if I say power points of something because that could be confused with mana
21:45:29 ER: I dunno, that's about all I have about powers. any questions? :P
21:54:12 syv: AFK. >.>
21:54:27 ER: me patient :)
22:02:53 ER: whatcha doin?~
22:05:32 sy has joined #einsteinianroulette
22:09:32 syv has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
22:58:20 sy is now known as syv
22:58:38 syv: Depressed friend. Practicing being a therapist.
22:58:47 ER: ok
22:59:02 syv: Increasingly thinking I'd really enjoy that as a career. O.O
22:59:15 ER: heh, maybe
22:59:15 syv: Okay, looking back...
22:59:36 ER: sorry if my explaination is a little spaghetti
23:01:26 syv: The only offhand comment I have is that 1 HP to use an innate power, and 1 XP to make the power innate in the first place, might end up being more OP than you'd think.
23:02:28 syv: Since phantoms have a persistent cost, summoning it just for one strong nuke might not be feasible where using it yourself *is*.
23:02:53 syv: That could conceivably make a power balanced for a phantom a bit OP when innate.
23:03:41 syv: Another place that applies is simply in phantoms having different priorities than players. Since their health regens on every summon, heals are pretty meh to them, but a heal on a player is very high value indeed.
23:04:01 syv: Same for most anything defensive, really.
23:04:16 syv: Mobility stuff could also get that effect. Especially if phantoms are range locked.
23:05:10 syv: That all being said, if this is considered when powers are written, it likely won't be a substantial issue. And some powers being better when innate just adds depth to the game.
23:06:53 ER: Hmm, to be clear you could just summon phantom for 1 turn, for only 1 cost overall
23:07:50 ER: heals would be targetted actives, so summoning phantom to heal yourself is as valid as using an innate heal power on yourself
23:09:07 ER: defensive powers aren't super useful for keeping your phantom alive, but could be very useful for keeping yourself alive, if you use the phantom as a shield
23:12:27 syv: Mm, if they can be summoned in one turn and immediately use something, then yeah, no trouble there.
23:12:57 syv: There is the slight penalty of the init debuff and stat/distraction debuff, but those are just legitimate tradeoffs.
23:15:59 ER: not much point in having a regeneration passive, because phantoms heal anyways and as an Innate it's worse than a Cure Wounds because it still costs the same
23:23:21 ER: was also thinking of having some kind of alchemy system for non-phantom based magic, though I'm not entirely decided on how it would work. feel like I should steal how sculptors work in cabal though
23:23:41 ER: random fetch quests for power! good fun, right?
23:34:18 syv: It's a good system, if ridiculously difficult to balance.
23:34:37 ER: hehe
23:34:57 ER: I wonder how exactly PW handles it.
23:35:10 ER: if he has a list of things or just ad hocs it
23:35:26 syv: About regen power: If it's a cheap passive and it's quite strong (40% regen per turn?) then it has a use. Assuming there's any penalty for the phantom dying/
23:36:02 syv: IIRC he said he rolls the words, then makes the sculpture off of that. He might pregen a list before handing them to alchemists, though?
23:38:02 ER: what I think I might do is let alchemists have a list of perplexicon words, then propose things they might want to build, at which point I assign a list of things to gather depending on how powerful it is
23:38:27 ER: with perhaps single-use items getting a big bonus to how easy they are to make?
23:38:50 ER: maybe this gets too complicated for the kind of game this is supposed to be
23:46:09 syv: Probably. >.>
23:46:43 ER: ahhh, but it would be fun for the nerd-type characters
