03:01:24 Devastator: going to buy some game today.
03:01:51 ER: would ye like Disco Elysium?
03:02:11 Devastator: Nah, want something a little more actiony
03:02:51 Devastator: Deadnaut end up any good?
03:04:01 ER: haven't bought it myself but had some fun watching a couple streamers play Deadwood recently. Top down survival horror
03:04:36 Devastator: does it take a while to get into?
03:04:48 Devastator: I'm looking for something that I can put a couple hours in tonight and pick up again later.
03:05:05 ER: i dunno, its fairly slow paced
03:05:44 Devastator: mmm, maybe not then.
03:07:02 ER: spelunky 2 came out recently, if you'd like a bigger version of spelunky
03:07:59 ER: I don't like the art style of the paid version though
03:08:40 ER: might just be sour grapes though ;P
03:09:23 ER: I played the classic version way back, got real into it. Then they made a bigger, paid version of it... for the xbox 360
03:09:34 ER: only came out on PC years later when I'd moved on
03:10:35 Devastator: I beat it and got to the city of gold.
03:10:54 ER: I'm not sure if I ever got the city of gold
03:11:42 Devastator: had to get all the special items, IIRC.
03:12:05 ER: I did play random mods for spekunky classic through. There was one where you could play as the carnivorous plant
03:12:17 ER: yeah, I know the secret chain well
03:12:26 ER: just not sure if I ever pulled it off
03:17:21 Devastator: Someone made a PC version of Metal Wolf Chaos.
03:21:07 Devastator: hmm, owlboy, that's a metroidvania, but not as intense as Celeste, right?
03:21:47 ER: too much mashing on R2 while aiming the stick, made my fingers tired :P
03:22:07 ER: I'd recommend some other metriodvania, tbh
03:22:50 Devastator: medium-skill action sounds about right today. I'm usually awful at metroidvanias, but one seems right today.
03:23:29 ER: hmm, didn't have one in mind
03:23:48 ER: I really liked Sundered, though it might not be everyone's jam and I got stuck on a boss
03:24:57 ER: with hordes of slavering eldtricth beasts
03:25:50 ER: areas are randomly generated and big hordes of monsters can appear at any time, so you have to navigate quickly
03:26:39 Devastator: might just buy quake if that's what I want.
03:30:05 Piecewise: Did you ever buy noita?
03:30:27 Devastator: I will today, yeah.
03:30:38 Devastator: won't play it for a while.
03:31:56 Devastator: any other suggestions?
03:32:05 ER: oh wait, Momodora reverie under the moonlight?
03:32:16 Devastator: had some extra shifts so have some extra money.
03:33:59 Devastator: Mmm, the one with the pickups and the house? Closer to the castlevania than metroid?
03:34:27 ER: not sure what you mean by that
03:34:48 Devastator: Well, the title that is awfully close to 'symphony of the night' is also a tip off, too. ;-p
03:35:01 ER: you hit things with a leaf and shoot things with a bow
03:35:31 ER: having a title similar to symphony of the night is traditional
03:35:56 ER: there was also Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
03:36:03 ER: guess what it's inspired by
03:36:35 Devastator: but owlboy sounds cuter of the two, so..
03:37:26 Devastator: I also think I remember you getting stuck for a while.
03:37:30 ER: momodora also had a really tough boss fight against a nun with a rapier, in very dark souls fashion
03:38:55 ER: owlboy is a easier game, I just got frustrated by having to mash the trigger to maximize my damage
03:39:10 ER: you CAN hold it down, but it doesn't shoot as fast as mashing
03:39:19 ER: which is bad game design in my book
03:39:28 Devastator: yeah, I want somewhere between easy and moderate today.
03:46:37 Piecewise: Have you played IJI?
03:47:03 ER: he was asking for a game to buy, though :P
03:47:10 Piecewise: should still play iji
03:47:23 ER: but that's outside the question
03:48:19 Piecewise: Did he want a metroidvania
03:48:33 Devastator: Yeah, but iji isn't new to me.
03:48:50 Piecewise: Hollow knight is good
03:49:22 Piecewise: midboss...that body hopping roguelike
03:49:31 ER: I played it but never did buy it
03:49:51 ER: enjoyable though. I'm just cheap
03:49:52 Devastator: anyway, bought owlboy and noita, so that's sufficient.

04:21:18 ER: our two cats are both scared of each other and it's a little sad
04:21:55 ER: and now we have their food in the same place, because Hilda being on the porch wasn't going to work in the winder time
04:23:24 syv: What's the other one's name?
04:25:36 ER:
syv. did you see that I updated LACE
04:26:42 syv: But I didn't respond when I read it because I had been tired >.<
04:28:02 ER: (I'm kind of mad right now. I was having fun watching a stream, and now my internet is crap slow and all I can do is text stuffs)
04:28:38 ER: but I *do* have anime downloaded
04:29:30 ER: playing SCP: Secret Lab, a multiplayer SCP game
04:34:05 syv: Huh. One exists? How's that work?
04:35:32 ER: it's first person, people spawn as SCPs, scientists, d-class, and guards. SCPs murder people. Sometimes dead folks respawn as squads of NTF or chaos insurgency soldiers up top
04:36:10 ER: good potential for roleplay, which is good for streamers
04:37:20 ER: looks like my internet's better now
04:37:45 syv:
Devastator, did you ever play that timestop maid metroidvania?
04:38:18 Devastator: I do have the anime downloaded, but I'd like to play owlboy some for a bit.
04:38:23 Devastator: two cats that don't like each other?
04:38:35 syv: And seemed to basically fit your desires.
04:38:55 Devastator: was that the one with the very grindy pickups?
04:39:04 Devastator: 2/2000 to get a +1?
04:40:32 ER: I'm not really sure what you're talking about with that
04:41:01 Devastator: currency drops were gems or something.
04:41:09 Devastator: and everything took a huge amount of them.
04:41:22 ER: I'm pretty sure I literally never bought anything
04:41:24 Devastator: ahh, found my controller.
04:41:49 ER: except right at the end for 100%, when I was filthy rich anyways
04:44:04 syv: The currency drops were pretty reasonable as far as actual purchases of direct buffs.
04:44:10 syv: Which were themselves minor.
04:44:31 syv: Each variety of currency gave a passive buff to some stat; damage up, mana regen up, etc.
04:44:41 syv: Those ones were absurdly grindy.
04:45:05 syv: It was basically "never sell this and by the end of the game you might have a +20% buff"
04:45:13 syv: Which isn't entirely unreasonable, mind.
04:46:02 syv: That being said, the passive buffs weren't really important. You might have an easier time with bosses, but it's a skill based game.
04:46:46 syv: Levels were more influential than currency anyway, IIRC.
04:47:04 syv: Doing everything at level 0 was actually really really hard.
04:47:26 syv: And level 99 was trivial. Moreso than L0 with max currency.
04:48:44 syv: Kind've an odd decision to add psuedo RPG stats to a metroidvania, but meh, the difficulty curve worked *really* well.
04:49:20 ER: that's standard for castlevanias I think
04:49:38 ER: and the game took more from castle than from vania
04:51:56 syv: You mean vania than from metroid?
04:54:26 Piecewise: You know the guys who made timestop maid have 2 other games?
04:54:46 syv: But neither of them looked interesting like Timestop Maid.
04:55:14 syv: What skill/stat is used for Wilfred's green ghost powers?
05:14:50 Piecewise: whatever the spooky stat is called
05:15:41 Piecewise: bing bong, time for bed
05:17:05 syv: And yeah, occult, figured.
05:24:05 Devastator: well, failed the tutorial.
05:24:10 Devastator: god I hate tutorials.
05:26:36 Devastator: Freedom, dammit, just give me freedom.
05:27:01 ER: owlboy does some handholding
05:31:46 Devastator: I'm not one for that, heh.
05:32:24 ER: then refund it and play one of the other metriodvanias we mentioned~
05:37:31 Devastator: I get back at excessive handholding well.

05:53:34 MidJag_: I'm getting close to having time to do that.
05:53:57 MidJag_: I wrote two lab reports in 4 hours. And I'm close to being done with secondaires.
06:07:16 Devastator: okay, that's enough of that.
06:07:26 Devastator: I hope I can take that hat off.
06:08:10 Devastator: also talked to the penguin before the shopkeep..
06:08:18 Devastator: anyway, any chance for an ep,
ER,
syv?
06:10:47 MidJag_: What game are you playing
dev?
06:14:44 Devastator: doing ok. Dunno if I'm doing great, but.. seems simple enough.
06:14:47 Devastator: failed the tutorial.
06:17:20 Devastator: haven't hit a flight limit like that later on, and realizing there's no easy way to drop something, so wondering if it was forced.
06:18:53 Devastator: yeah. I also want to do an extinction update later, but maybe after a show ep.
06:24:25 Devastator: I guess I'll play a little more.
06:24:41 MidJag_: Eh, I'm writing so I can't really watch.
06:32:39 OtherOwl has joined #einsteinianroulette
06:33:30 OtherOwl: watching
Dev carry a guy around to shoot all his enemies
06:33:32 ER: in a webcomic I follow an owl just died
06:33:57 MidJag_: What've you been up to Irony?
06:34:15 OtherOwl: ...actually I've been wrassling a puppy
06:34:27 MidJag_: Yours or someone elses?
06:34:46 OtherOwl: he's very cute, but gnaws upon my flesh and pees on the floor still D:
06:35:16 OtherOwl:
dev just threw his triggerman into the abyss
06:35:39 MidJag_: This sounds intresting enough I'll have the stream in the background as I write.
06:36:23 MidJag_: This is not the art style I was expecting
06:36:51 OtherOwl: also this appears to involve a lot more vegetable harvesting than I'd expect from an owl
06:37:15 OtherOwl: maybe the original plan was to pluck and devour small rodents, but testing groups described it as "horrifying" and "of deep moral concern"
06:37:46 MidJag_: Owls are some weird birds.
06:38:03 ER: tiny brain, huuuuge eyes :P
06:38:22 MidJag_: So why do things go all pixelly?
06:39:09 OtherOwl: normally I'd say
dev's internet, but I think he got the good stuff installed recently
06:39:20 MidJag_: Irony does it go all weird and pixelly when he moves a lot?
06:39:41 OtherOwl: haven't been paying attention to when it happens
06:39:46 Devastator: there's a teleport device that returns the triggerman to you whenever.
06:39:53 Devastator: so I see no reason to not ditch the triggerman whenever.
06:39:53 OtherOwl: but it definitely goes all weird and pixely sometimes
06:40:12 OtherOwl: poor yoshi, being hurled off cliffs whenever you have no more need of him
06:40:19 ER: oh yeah, toss all your friends everywhere
06:40:55 Devastator: looks like for whatever reason the resolution was off 24 pixels.
06:41:27 MidJag_: That would sorta explain the really odd pixellation.
06:44:44 ER: who would have thought that me
06:45:28 OtherOwl: does time to sleep mean you're going to sleep
06:45:33 OtherOwl: or just that you should?
06:46:12 MidJag_: Hmm, I need two random scientests. The more differnt from each other the better.
06:47:08 OtherOwl: huh, grabbing a cloud
06:47:12 OtherOwl: that's a neat puzzle solution
06:47:34 OtherOwl: what do you mean random scientests?
06:50:16 MidJag_: Like just any fairlly recent scientest that you can think of who doesn't resemble any other scientests you can think of. I'm drawing a blank on ones that make for easy analogies.
06:51:20 MidJag_: I'm in the middle of writing secondary applications., so coming up with something that explains diversity of thought is always a pain.
06:52:22 OtherOwl: what's an owl need all these coins for, anyway?
06:54:12 OtherOwl: what, no thanks for expanding his pond?
06:56:09 OtherOwl: oh so that's what those smoke-holes do
06:59:15 Devastator: yeah, I thought they might do that, but hadn't touched it.
06:59:18 Devastator: mostly extra health.
07:00:44 MidJag_: WElp. I should go to bed.
07:00:53 MidJag_ has left #einsteinianroulette
07:06:43 OtherOwl: this some kind of horror portion
07:06:56 OtherOwl: did that gnome just instadevour you
07:13:16 Devastator: That's the first time I've died, other than those gnomes.
07:13:28 OtherOwl: rather good shots with a cannon, those pirates
07:19:06 OtherOwl: seems like a prohibitively long recharge on that pirate cannon
07:19:10 OtherOwl: shotgun, whatever he's got there
07:21:13 OtherOwl: well... guess he's good for burning the world
07:33:28 Devastator: gonna leave it here.
07:33:37 OtherOwl: I should sleep soon anyway
07:35:22 Devastator: just what I wanted today.
07:35:41 Devastator: glad I got that collectable..
07:38:20 Devastator: backtracked for it, and it had plot.
07:38:27 Devastator: and put owlboy to sleep.
07:38:39 Devastator: ..like Trence, really.
07:41:45 OtherOwl: little disappointing we didn't do better, but it's certainly more realistic that we're not the only poison resisters around
07:42:30 Devastator: Trence had a lot more room to go, really.
07:42:45 Devastator: Too many people there.
07:42:47 OtherOwl: oh that's what the contest was missing
07:42:56 OtherOwl: getting drunk is the first step
07:43:02 OtherOwl: doing stupid things is where the real magic happens
07:43:29 Devastator: The issue with that is that trence is better at doing that sober than drunk.
07:45:15 Devastator: but yeah, maybe I should have had it push it more.
07:53:20 Devastator: it's like a vertical zelda.
07:59:28 OtherOwl: feel like zelda had more uh... theatrical bosses?
07:59:37 OtherOwl: like the game seemed to make a big deal of them
08:07:54 Devastator: I havne't use Uncle's name in a long time.
08:08:04 Devastator: had to look it up because Sessha wouldn't call him Uncle.
08:42:10 Devastator: That may be the ugliest ship ever built.
