Spend... 4% of total gas I think, you get a ~50 m/s speed boost for a fraction of a second, *unless* you either interrupt it by landing a grapple within a few frames of bursting (keeps the speed boost and lets you burst again instantly) OR burst *against* your current momentum, which straight reduces your speed.
