00:07:26 ER: it might forget that you're dead if you suggest such, though ;P
00:12:08 ER: I guess it can kind of detect when you die, but it missed that time.
00:12:48 Devastator: yeah, the seams are kinda showing.
00:13:11 ER: it's AI, the whole thing's seams
00:13:23 ER: still, it's amazing how well it works
00:13:35 ER: or rather, that it resembles working at all
00:17:29 Devastator: don't worry, only a few more years and there won't be any authors.
00:32:28 ER: I've gotten one actual ending, every other time it eventually broke
00:44:27 Devastator: that is a neat AI thing.
01:02:04 ER: I like how eventually it started using >
01:02:24 ER: I dunno, that was just an experience.
01:03:28 ER: the AI certainly got confused, but I'll just interpret that as my character going insane and take it as a win.
01:03:47 ER: ...too bad I didn't save the detective one
01:05:13 ER: I ran into the woods, immediately got shot in the back, took a few more bullets, shot the gun in the head twice, called an ambulance, then called my boyfriend while in the hospital but couldn't express my feelings so I wrote a latter to him instead.
01:21:20 Devastator: Also,
ER, I need your orders in K-com.
01:24:31 Devastator: was wondering if maybe you wanted to avoid casulties. ;-p
01:33:14 Devastator: I didn't know you were a necrophiliac.
01:51:50 Devastator:
Piecewise, let me know if you get back.
02:33:40 Devastator: Nah, was just negotiating with
ER.
02:33:52 Devastator: What's the die roll to figure out he's working for the magebreakers?
02:34:53 Piecewise: Well, depends on how you're trying to figure it out, could be Know, could be sense.
02:35:23 Devastator: Well, probably Sense, because I really should know I met her while she was joining up with them in their building.
02:36:45 Devastator: and Sense to decieve?
02:37:34 ER: because that's my higher stat!
02:41:07 Devastator: sorry, sniffed it out.
02:41:46 Devastator: Also, we're exchaning one more spell.
02:42:26 ER: I don't need better armor deeply
02:42:50 Devastator: I can probably buy anesthetic.
02:42:57 Devastator: didn't think of it, though.
02:43:57 Devastator: I'd prefer magic anesthesia, but the need isn't that great.
02:45:17 Devastator: real stuff I could fuck up and kill someone with.
02:45:23 Devastator: but your stuff would be impossibly good.
02:49:02 ER: yeah
Piecewise, can I make anesthetic which can't kill?
02:50:02 Piecewise: any anesthetic can kill
02:50:16 Devastator: one that's unreasonably good at not killing while making sleepy.
02:50:23 ER: magic anisthetic which KOs and doesn't kill
02:51:11 Devastator: Plus it'd be good for
ER to go with the reverse-plan.
02:51:22 Devastator: instead of being kidnapped, kidnap someone else!
02:51:26 Piecewise: You'd have to create it in such a way where it knocks out via some process different from most anesthetic though
02:51:33 Piecewise: maybe something akin to a K-hole
02:52:08 Piecewise: high grade depersonalization
02:52:29 Devastator: well, sounds neat. If you're up for the trade, we can do it.
03:05:41 ER:
Piecewise have you played AI dungeon yet
03:30:43 ER: damn AI dungeon, why you gotta be so addicting
03:31:23 Piecewise: but it seemed to only kind of understand me
03:31:23 ER: I'm not sure if this even counts as a game so much as silly roleplaying with myself
03:31:43 ER: sometimes it's jank as fuck
03:31:51 ER: mostly when it crashes tho~
03:32:21 Piecewise: crossbone or geno spino...
03:51:02 Piecewise: Lets see if I got this sekiro boss rush mod installed right

05:13:32 Devastator: Egan's secret mission in Cabal is to spy on the expedition for the magebreakers.
05:13:51 Devastator: ..which is pointless, because the job is for the magebreakers, and I offered to just take someone for the employer if wanted.
05:13:59 Devastator: It'd be a good idea to hide the statue.
05:14:20 syv: I think that's true regardless of who Ravi's working for.
05:14:58 Devastator: well, wanted to make sure you're okay with it.
05:16:24 syv: Yeah, worst case, it causes some fun.
05:16:56 syv: Considering what
ER's already said about the sculpture, I kinda doubt he'd even tell them about it?
05:17:04 syv: It'd be boring for him to do so, anyway.
05:17:14 Devastator: but they might suck it outta his brain.
09:44:39 Devastator:
syv is sending you MEAT.
09:44:43 Devastator: you may wish to adjust your orders.
11:15:20 er has joined #einsteinianroulette
11:31:07 syv: Not until I get off work, which is a bit over an hour from now.
11:31:21 syv: If you want anything, I'm free.
11:46:07 er: I've never seen gum that's not sugar free, which is gross.
11:49:46 syv: You've *never* seen sugary gum...?
11:52:51 er: Every package I've checked has always said sugar free on it
11:53:33 Devastator: America is a third-world country.
11:57:35 syv: ...Hum, checking my favorite type of gum, yeah, it's sugarfree. Sorbitol, yay.

syv, do you have an opinion about telepathy being a pickable power in fmd rather than an odd default ability?
12:42:43 syv has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
12:49:57 er: Yeah, he told me when he was leaving
12:50:08 er: And I asked a question right in time
13:31:10 syv has joined #einsteinianroulette
13:32:19 syv: Telepathy is a default power because it's a team based game in an environment where there's lots of room for meta play.
13:34:03 syv: If telepathy isn't available, players will have the choice of just not working together because their chars can't communicate (which is bad in general), or of communicating OOC (or just reading the other turns...) and then just-so-happening to do the right supportive things.
13:36:06 syv: It also just smoothes out a lot of IC oddities. Player gets confused about where their char is in relation to another, or isn't paying attention to the fact that they're supposed to be stealthy? It's a bit unfair to punish them for *talking*, and even more annoying to say "Wait, wait, you guys are like two blocks away, you can't talk to each other", so just handing them telepathy is a convenient solution.
13:38:17 syv: Finally, from a powergaming perspective, it's just a terrible choice. Do you invest character building points into an ability which gives you no benefit beyond communicating IC to justify the stuff you'll agree on OOC either way? Do you trust your teammates to actually be cooperative enough to make the skill useful?
13:38:17 syv: Will the GM enforce it? Will it be entirely redundant if two people have telepathy, because one person can be a middleman for the whole team?
13:39:36 syv: It's just a bunch of icky non-mechanical stuff that's hard to deal with well, and it's very easy to make an extremely wrong choice. So I went with free communication for everyone; it's most convenient, fun, and understandable.
13:40:05 syv: TL;DR everything is simpler if telepathy is free. Simpler is good. Make telepathy free.
13:40:15 syv has quit [Quit: You hear a distant scream of "FUCK AT&T!"]
13:48:48 Devastator: If you're going to make it a power, don't use it for communication. Use it as a power, ie, let you mess with your enemies or give you utility particular to the character. Not be a phone.

22:52:31 IronyOwl: Are we screwed this fight?
22:56:11 Devastator: Insufficient info to make a solid conclusion.
22:56:18 Devastator: you do know it's stronger than the previous Kaiju were.
22:56:34 Devastator: but you guys don't have the capacity to get a solid estimate.
22:56:38 IronyOwl: ad
syv apparently only has a pair of hyperobsolete tanks to send D:
22:57:09 Devastator: Well, you could ask him about how bad they are.
22:57:52 IronyOwl: speaking of information, does part processing always give the same number of bits?
22:58:11 Devastator: Also, was surprised to find you not processing the acid gland.
22:58:22 IronyOwl: wanted to start with something a little more basic
22:58:31 Devastator: ..I also forgot to write up botes.
22:58:35 IronyOwl: processed acid pretty much requires I then devote efforts to utilizing it
22:59:11 IronyOwl: so is there a way to figure out how much processing gives outside trial and error?
23:03:50 Devastator: Pretty much trial and error.
23:04:53 IronyOwl: what was the procedure for transferring research again?
23:05:11 Devastator: You have a blueprint.
23:05:16 Devastator: you give it to another organization.
23:05:34 Devastator: that org spends a research phase learning it for 20, in any lab with any scientist.
23:05:42 Devastator: they now have a useable copy.
23:06:12 Devastator: Mad scientists don't use blueprints, so if you want them to build off of your designs, you have to make one first and send it to them.
23:06:20 IronyOwl: hm hm, so there's no particular point to sharing one-turn research, multi-turn research is basically a discount of N - 1 turns
23:10:25 Devastator: well, you might want to share it so both of you can build copies of it.
23:10:57 IronyOwl: good samaritan bonuses and whatnot
23:13:31 IronyOwl: meaning you statted out the submarine or?
23:14:05 Devastator: Nah, wrote up how they work.
23:14:14 Devastator: it's already statted out, just not revealed.
23:14:20 Devastator: presumably until
syv gets his hands on it. ;-p
23:14:27 Devastator: or someone else builds a trials centre or whatever.
23:14:52 IronyOwl: oh, so are bote rules going to be public or hidden?
23:15:04 Devastator: I just posted them.
23:15:46 Devastator: it's because they aren't normally transported.
23:15:54 Devastator: although I suppose I wouldn't ban transporting them, but they can move themselves.
23:18:37 IronyOwl: ...oh, but what counts as a "region", and thus an adjacent region?
23:21:04 IronyOwl: so is that like its own region or part of the south china sea region or part of the asian region or what?
23:21:30 Devastator: Your local region is basically the south china sea.
23:21:55 Devastator: Celebs isn't in it, Borneo is.
23:22:04 Devastator: Borneo and Java are.
23:22:35 Devastator: The sea of Japan, the Yellow Sea, and the east coast of Japan are adjacent regions.
23:23:03 Devastator: Same with the Western Pacific, the coast of austrailia, and although this is a bit of a stretch, New Zealand.
23:23:35 Devastator: Going west, Karachi is the limit of the 'adjacent Regions'
23:24:05 IronyOwl: hm, so I can cover a decent fraction of the globe from here
23:24:06 Devastator: The arabian sea, the east side of africa, and the Persian Gulf are all two regions away and not adjacent.
23:24:18 IronyOwl: not great, but somewhat approaching viable
23:24:45 IronyOwl: oh well, we all know I'm going to do very strange things to this bote anyway
23:25:38 Devastator: I think Stirk's the only one with an inland base, so I'll ask him for a port if he gets a bote.
23:25:59 Devastator: Although most likely it would be the american west coast as his local region
23:26:19 IronyOwl: so the sub is... huge, was it?
23:26:52 Devastator: That's a nice region. It's basically Prince Rupert to Puerto Vallerta.
23:27:10 IronyOwl: and large+2 is the largest size currently theoretically feasible, called... what was it probably going to be called again?
23:27:44 Devastator: There's no real cap.
23:27:59 Devastator: But I'd probably call that Gigantic or something like that.
23:28:17 IronyOwl: better yet, although now I have no cap to aim for particularly
23:29:20 Devastator: that said, labs and workshops that large can run into some time and money.
23:29:30 Devastator: but they do have advantages.
23:33:29 Devastator: If you aren't trying to pack a nuke into a suitcase, it's a lot easier to make a nuke, for instance.
23:33:53 Devastator: same applies for things like guns.
23:34:41 IronyOwl: hm, does that affect what the end product can be mounted on, though?
23:34:53 Devastator: if it's big, it needs to be on a big thing.
23:35:07 Devastator: but if you have a big thing, you don't need to make a 50mm cannon hit like a 150mm cannon.
23:35:15 Devastator: because you can just have the bigger gun.
23:35:42 Devastator: So if you are making something big, it's easier to mount powerful stuff on it.
23:35:53 IronyOwl: man I am super excited for all the dumb shit I could theoretically design or commission
23:36:08 Devastator: I'm willing to allow most anything.
23:36:11 Devastator: anything in specific?
23:37:06 IronyOwl: no, just thinking of giant tanks, organic mechs, literally all the submarine augments/upgrades, and every weapon known to science fiction
23:37:34 IronyOwl: including using the submarine as an infantry transport rather than an assault craft
23:37:56 IronyOwl: when I say infantry I obviously mean aquatic catgirls with jetpacks, though
23:38:38 Devastator: yeah, you can make a boat transport.
23:38:53 Devastator: also, nobody yet has catgirls.
23:39:00 Devastator: or told me what they actually want from the catgirls.
23:42:37 IronyOwl: wasn't
ER asking about using kaiju muscle to let them carry around tank weapons or something?
23:42:44 Devastator: Yeah, that's something.
23:42:50 Devastator: still, helps to be specific what you want.
23:43:10 IronyOwl: speaking of which,
pw's action is a lil vague innit?
23:43:28 Devastator: because, no offense, infantry strong enough to punch out a Kaiju isn't happening.
23:43:58 Devastator: Yeah, but I'll just interpret that as 'start working on the bug generator with MUSCLE.'
23:44:09 Devastator: It's gotta get built before he can do anything with it.
23:44:37 Devastator: And hell, it's really dumb for him to build it, as he'll have to escort the products every time he deploys it.
23:44:47 Devastator: so I'll probably suggest he build it in someone else's place.
23:46:05 Devastator: Although if it stores a couple it won't be so bad.
23:46:18 Devastator: and he can just send them along with whatever product he makes next, since the lab will be empty again.
23:46:41 IronyOwl: "next mad science project comes with a complementary serving of armored machine gun wasps!"
23:50:48 Devastator: and all projects to come!
23:51:17 Devastator: I suppose if someone else gets it I'll waive the capacity limit and wait for the base to explode from rampaging wasps.
23:51:51 IronyOwl: speaking of which, are organic machine guns going to be relevant against kaiju?
23:52:05 IronyOwl: infantry have to use grenade launchers and they're still shit
23:52:46 Devastator: Nah, not unless you're talking about stronger or bigger than conventional machine guns.
23:53:16 IronyOwl: well that's gonna piss the boneman right off
23:53:16 Devastator: What he said there, the Gau-8s on A-10s, are bigger than normal machine guns.
23:53:29 Devastator: so.. yeah, more power than small arms, that's for sure.
23:54:13 Devastator: Still, though, I've been vague about the size of these things, but we're talking about fifty-foot tall creatures at minimum.
23:55:27 IronyOwl: I mean, modern artillery can score direct hits and still not do very much, they're very clearly made of don't give a fuck
23:56:36 Devastator: yet nobody's done any skin research.
23:57:17 IronyOwl: that was totally on my list when I was still aiming for tanks
23:57:27 IronyOwl: getting some of that sweet organic hide armor on them would have been boss
23:57:33 IronyOwl: still would be boss, but also... bote!
