00:42:27 Devastator: Having Lords of Magic be your introduction to gaming is extremely lucky.

01:35:02 Piecewise: Better than having mystery of the druids
01:37:28 Devastator: Heya Piecewise.
01:37:31 Devastator: was that yours?
01:39:19 Piecewise: I have no memory
01:39:39 Piecewise: probably something on the NES or genesis
01:40:11 Piecewise: Maybe duck hunt
01:40:22 Piecewise: thats the oldest one I remember
01:40:24 Piecewise: *shrug*
01:42:54 Devastator: mmm.
01:42:57 er: Sonic Adventure. ;0
01:43:09 Devastator: I slightly predate the NES.
01:43:19 er: (Probably not true, but close enough~)
01:44:03 Piecewise: I got into games pretty late due to my worry wort mother
01:44:52 Piecewise: fun fact, she didn't let us watch Hamtaro. Probably because she distrusts them wily Orientals.
01:45:01 er: I remember imploring the mall santa for videogames, just in general, then getting a dreamcast. I don't recall why I wanted videogames.
01:45:06 Devastator: It'd probably be with the Intellivision.
01:45:18 Devastator: ooh, that's a thing.
01:45:25 Piecewise: Poor dreamcast
01:45:30 Piecewise: boren to die
01:45:44 er: Best console~
01:45:51 Piecewise: Hey
01:45:57 Piecewise: Neogeo exists
01:46:02 Piecewise: you fool
01:46:40 Devastator: It's a fair point with the dreamcast.
01:46:57 Devastator: yeah, if anything I'd have to say it was BurgerTime on the Intellivision.
01:47:01 Piecewise: https://media.newyorker.com/photos/59097d79ebe912338a378ab8/master/w_727,c_limit/Parkin-TheUnexpectedlyHigh-StakesWorldofNeoGeoCollecting.jpg

02:09:07 ER: mm
02:11:43 Devastator: mm.
02:25:44 Devastator: "Occupy Dwarf Street"
02:25:47 Devastator: effing dorfs.
02:25:54 ER: effing dwarfs!
02:26:02 Piecewise: Dwarf streets?
02:26:14 Piecewise: Dwarf on the streets, giant in the sheets
02:26:26 ER: I think I've figured out what a good setpiece for a oneshot DnD would be
02:27:54 ER: there's a forest of trees which grow runes in their bark, each of them keeps one eldritch being bound. Some fucking dwarves want to cut a few down because the wood is anti-magic
03:16:45 Piecewise: The best set piece would be shifting the game into a different system
03:17:27 Devastator: That's one of the most classic ones of all time, PW.
03:18:08 Devastator: "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks"
03:33:50 Piecewise: I just don't like the DND system
03:33:56 Piecewise: it strikes me as bloated
03:34:12 ER: eh
03:34:16 Piecewise: has good stuff, don't get me wrong
03:34:31 ER: 5e isn't too bad for people new to RPG systems to learn
03:34:36 Piecewise: Then again, I'm most...familiar with 3.5
03:35:14 Piecewise: I've heard 5e is more simple
03:35:20 ER: all things equal I'd probably prefer to make my own simple system, but may as well go with what's known
03:35:33 Piecewise: just use the black hack
03:35:46 ER: 5e is nice in that it's simpler without sacrificing too much actual depth
03:36:01 ER: it more like... worded better. :V
03:37:30 Devastator: mmm.
03:37:40 Devastator: 5e isn't bad, but it's just as imbalanced as previous versions. ;-p
03:37:43 Devastator: it's funnish.
03:37:47 Devastator: and certainly simpler than 3.5.
03:37:55 Devastator: I doubt it'll stay that way.
03:41:55 Devastator: it'll get complicated.
03:42:23 Piecewise: it always does
03:45:28 Devastator: aye
03:46:20 ER: y'aye
03:46:42 Piecewise: Here ER
03:46:43 Piecewise: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cY4bD9S63JO75uu8ayT6KdRLN9fCkrhZ
03:47:06 ER: the fuck is this
03:47:07 Piecewise: fully updated version of black hack v2 with all the extras.
03:47:18 ER: okay what the fuck is this
03:47:50 Piecewise: The black hack is a OSR hack of the original DND rules that are quite simple but also with a lot of depth if you want
03:47:55 Piecewise: they're very well liked
03:48:06 ER: fcuk em
03:48:37 ER: either I'll use something my IRL people have ever heard of or I'll do it myself
03:48:46 Piecewise: They might have heard of it
03:49:04 Piecewise: its sold tons
03:49:33 Devastator: Heh.
03:49:59 Devastator: does it include the relative polearm bonus table?
03:51:58 Piecewise: I highly doubt it
03:52:06 Piecewise: But I'll check
03:52:54 Devastator: I need to know if I should use my glaive-guisarm or my voulge!
03:56:09 Piecewise: There's rules for "Large" weapons
03:56:11 Piecewise: but thats it
03:56:20 Piecewise: the actual rules are about 30 pages
03:56:25 ER: larg
03:56:33 Devastator: mmm
03:56:40 Devastator: nope, no polearm table then.
03:56:44 Devastator: Is there still Thac0?
03:57:06 Piecewise: I'm not sure waht you mean
03:57:16 ER: thaco!
03:57:31 ER: its thac0 you nerd
03:57:48 Piecewise: Oh, to hit armor class
03:59:11 Devastator: yesh.
03:59:29 Devastator: particularly 20s hitting four different AC values. ;-p
04:02:07 Devastator: to hit armour class zero.
04:03:52 Piecewise: Nah, it doesn't use AC. It uses attribute tests for attacking and defending. Armor grants an "Armor pool" that lets you ignore damage a certain number of times depending on the armor, before the armor breaks. You can then try to fix the armor outside of combat, but it is harder to do with more powerful armor
04:04:42 Piecewise: And if you fail it breaks it till you get it fixed at a blacksmith
04:05:05 Devastator: Oh, THAT ruleset.
04:05:33 Devastator: So that's what that ruleset is.
04:31:58 ER: tuna fiiiish
04:32:10 ER: stole it all to myself~
04:33:12 Devastator: "Order be praised"
04:42:27 Piecewise: With a side of fries
04:53:23 ER: three panels of people's faces looking shook, one panel with kitty cat, looking FUCKING FURIOUS
04:53:33 ER: http://www.sssscomic.com/comic2.php?page=190
05:02:38 Piecewise: Didn't know you read SSSS
05:03:34 Piecewise: I've never read it myself. I saw something called sssscomic and when I found out it wasn't about snakes I gave up
05:13:49 Devastator: Heh.
05:13:58 Devastator: "Why is this dungeon level 11? It looks like shit."
05:14:03 Devastator: "What level is this fucking guy?"
05:14:07 Devastator: "There's TWO of them?"
05:14:21 Devastator: heh.
06:18:49 Devastator: ok
06:18:55 Devastator: no k-com questions tonight, eh?
06:23:05 ER: I had one
06:33:49 ER: *thinking about x-com game* "wait, this will involve a lot of mechanics, won't it? fuck."
06:37:40 Devastator: heh.
06:37:49 Devastator: MECHANICS.
06:37:55 Devastator: It's like me and TALKING.
06:39:15 ER: like, kinda want different alien species to have different stats, so I have to both figure out what those are and what they might mechanically mean in a battle, unless I want to furiously eyeball things.
06:40:23 Devastator: Piecewise, what's your opinion on just winging it?
06:42:41 ER: also, silly things with unit veterancy and tactics.
06:45:02 ER: each individual person in a unit has their own veterancy level. The entire squad can equip tactics which give them bonuses, as many as the highest veterancy level in the squad, AND, each tactic has a level 1 and level 2 verson, and you can only have as many level 2 tactics as the lowest level soldier. :V
06:45:51 ER: so uh, it's best to have everyone trained to the same level, but you can still have one veteran soldier ordering around squaddies, it just won't be as good.
06:54:55 Devastator: so do squad tactics affect the squad as a whole or just the units inside it?
06:55:38 ER: hopefully I can just treat the unit as a unit during actual combat?
06:56:03 ER: so, the tactics apply to th whole unit
06:56:32 ER: which is why it wouldn't just be "soldiers can use as many tactics as their veterancy level"
07:37:14 ER: okay, I honestly just really like this character design: https://killsixbilliondemons.com/comic/king-of-swords-9-106/
07:39:54 Devastator: the rogue angel?
07:40:23 ER: big stone guy~
08:23:35 ER has quit [Quit: HydraIRC -> http://www.hydrairc.com <- Po-ta-to, boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew.]
08:30:08 Devastator: showing up tonight syv?
