02:14:16 Devastator: Also close up on book.
02:34:05 Devastator: also, got to see a birds nest with baby birds.
02:34:35 Devastator: Not sure what kind of bird even.
02:51:03 Devastator: Says they're cavity nesters, which is exactly where I found the nest, so..
02:52:36 Devastator: Also, good to see some around because there's a serious overpopulation of sparrows.
02:54:14 MidJag has joined #einsteinianroulette
02:55:06 MidJag: The new lady doesn't seem that bad in AH.
02:55:14 MidJag: Better than I expected at any rate.
02:55:36 Devastator: Might be underestimating the situation.
02:55:55 Devastator: No reason to expect others can't be hit by the apathy field.
02:56:02 ER: either it's temporary or it's the new normal
02:56:16 MidJag: Fern was fine with the coffe apathy one.
02:56:21 ER: or it's the end of the multiverse which seems unlikely, but that's fine too
02:56:22 Devastator: False dichrotomy that.
02:56:47 MidJag: Neither of them really care what happens to the rest of the world.
02:57:20 Devastator: that the only two options are 'temporary' or 'new normal.', and that both of those end in a flesh pillar being around.
02:57:47 MidJag: oh I thought you were talking about my stament
02:58:35 MidJag: Though actually I'm not entierlly sure I rember coffee apathy one that well.
03:00:30 MidJag: Hmm, actually I guess coffee one was a bit more worried in general I suppose. Then again she's also a lot younger than the book one.
03:01:31 Devastator: coffee one also seemed out of it.
03:01:37 Devastator: and doesn't the red flesh supposedly do that to people?
03:02:34 MidJag: You mean the cofee hive mind thing?
03:03:54 MidJag: Yeah the cake fucks with your head.
03:04:32 MidJag: But she was working for the cofee shop so I think there's a different thing happening there.
03:04:35 Devastator: flair is some kinda evil, but I think a different kind than the cake.
03:05:01 ER: the redhead human works for burgrr, not flair
03:05:34 MidJag: Damn. dunno how I got that confused.
03:06:05 MidJag: But yeah flair is definetly evil.
03:06:07 Devastator: Fern only tried to seduce one of them.
03:06:14 ER: it's probably impossible to appear to be a normal person who isn't in incredible suffering while working for flair.
03:11:22 MidJag: Heh, maybe read head and this apathy one are branchs or something~
03:11:57 ER: ah, all grey life shares a common origin, aye?
03:13:02 Devastator: That might be a metaphor.
03:13:39 MidJag: Biologically speaking I mean everything has a single common ancestor.
03:13:53 MidJag: But my brain is tired and confused.
03:14:46 Devastator: That may only apply to the one planet.
03:14:54 Devastator: other universes, other planets..
03:15:04 MidJag: Yeah, that would get complicated.
03:15:59 MidJag: Also I just realized how small willis is in comparison to Fern, now I'm trying to figure out if he's too scale.
03:16:20 Devastator: He sees Ferp as hueg.
03:16:32 Devastator: and she's been talking to creatures that live inside her own body.
03:16:47 ER: the part of willis we can see is only a small portion of the whole
03:17:02 Devastator: Size probably has a meaning in this world, but it isn't the convetional one.
03:17:21 ER: no, we can actually see how big Tori is
03:17:46 MidJag: Also nah, Your Circle of Willis is way smaller than Willis is compared to Fern.
03:25:11 MidJag: Man, I'm gonna be in med school and someones going to ask me why I said that spleens always seemed misanthropic and that's gonna be a weird explanation.
03:33:04 MidJag: Apperentlly spleens can like make mini spleens.
03:33:40 Devastator: potatos make mini-potatos.
03:34:48 MidJag: But potatoes don't live inside of people.
03:36:54 Devastator: How certain are you of that?
03:37:13 Devastator: Second, what does the spleen do, anyway?
03:41:49 MidJag: And spleens filter blood and can also store blood. that's why when you have like mono you have an enlarged spleen.
03:43:29 MidJag: But you don't need it to live. Though it is pretty useful.
03:45:09 Devastator: What about the splanch?
03:45:48 MidJag: I'm not sure there is such a thing.
03:46:10 MidJag: googling it there is such a thing as a splanchnic nerve.
03:48:21 Devastator: HE'S MAKING NEW COMICS AGAIN.
03:49:14 MidJag: If there's one thing you don't want to be late delivering, it's your own desperately needed transplant organs.
03:49:20 MidJag: I don't know the context, but that line is just great
03:50:04 Devastator: Irregular Webcomic is.. something.
03:51:01 MidJag: I'm paging through, it is there any kind of continuity or underlying theme beyond vague refrences to paradoz?
03:51:29 Devastator: But that particular theme is basicaly a 800 page long paradox.
03:51:37 Devastator: well, not that long.
03:51:46 Devastator: Most of the other themes have more story to them.
03:53:56 Devastator: Wait until you find out where that splanch came from in the first place.
03:55:43 Devastator: That's also the guy who does the Star Wars as a tabletop campaign series.
03:57:12 MidJag: I knew irregular sounded familiar.
04:02:04 Devastator reached the next Hobbit Pun Expiration Timer.

04:50:33 syv: also a thing in Darths & Droids, it's the shapeshifting organ.
04:51:02 syv: I recall that it was a plot point for Boba Fett to get a splanch transplant.
04:51:47 syv: If it's damaged or lost, shapeshifters can no longer shapeshift, until they get a new splanch.
04:52:02 MidJag: That's how most organs work really
04:52:09 syv: It's also mutable, and can be shapeshifted into another functional organ.
04:52:23 syv: Without losing shapeshifting, I believe.
04:52:54 MidJag: That's one of my favorite magics.
04:53:12 ER: have you played Prototype? :P
04:53:25 ER: comeplete bullshit biomagic, it's great
05:03:46 syv:
MJ sent me that, I think it fits Tactihell
05:03:57 MidJag: Also
Dev,
ER opinions on Bojack Horseman as a thing to watch occasionally.
05:14:19 ER: in the opinion of hell, hell's doing a great job and there's nothing that anyone can do to stop that~
05:17:11 ER: also in the opinion of hell, your god is a dummy who writes bad code, but that's not really a moral judgement and it's largely irrelevant at this point.
05:21:45 ER: "time to choose a better king" fits with my favorite DaS ending though. :D
05:22:40 syv: Tachell, as it relates to that song.
05:24:33 ER: it's pretty easy to relate any angry and/or angsty song I hear to Sophia, but burying her with her guns would certainly be appriciated.
05:25:56 Devastator: I thought sophia had guns.
05:26:52 Devastator: so like 1 machine gun or 250 pistols.
05:27:01 ER: guess in TH's continuity, she IS buried with her guns.
05:27:12 syv: 1 machine gun does not a trunkful make.
05:27:26 Devastator: does in breaking bad.
05:27:53 syv: Yeah, that's what I meant when I linked it. People spawn with their weapons, and that song described someone wanting to be buried eith their weapons, do that they'll still have them in hell.
05:28:03 ER: wouldn't a crew operated MG fill a trunk?
05:28:11 syv: Just because you have one large item in a trunk doesn't mean the trunk is full.
05:28:32 syv: ...And yeah, an HMG would probably fulfill that criteria.
05:28:46 syv: But Sophia legit had trouble packing in all her guns.
05:29:03 ER: yeah but there are "machine guns" that are too big to fit in a sedan's trunk, so I assume there's at least one gun that's the right size. :P
05:31:36 ER: SO WHEN I REACH THE OTHER SIDE

05:48:01 ER: you know, the tragic thing is that in TH cosmology Alexander's god might be real, but it can't be as competant and benevolant as it claims to be.
05:50:19 Devastator: because if it was competent that holy symbol would still be around.
05:52:20 MidJag: Actually now I'm curious.
Dev are you an athesit?
05:53:39 syv: I'd put my money on agnostic for
Dev, but only a small sum.
05:54:02 Devastator: Only if you call agnostics 'people who doubt'
05:54:22 MidJag: I think that's actually what an agnostic is.
05:54:53 syv: I consider agnosticism to be one who is willing to believe in the concept of some form of god, but generaly not any of the gods recognized by human religion.
05:55:24 ER: the god game that I ran, Death Plane, was about an uncaring cosmology that's *uncaring to the gods*
05:55:54 Devastator: Not necessarily. People of faith with occasional lapses aren't necessarily agnostics..
05:56:38 sy has joined #einsteinianroulette
05:57:33 sy: I don't consider agnosticism to mean someone is without faith, nor do I consider it to imply faith.
05:58:09 ER: I consider agnostics to be people who don't like to get into arguments~
05:58:41 sy: So, all of us are atheists besides
MJ?
06:00:31 syv has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
06:03:04 syv: Oddly
MJ is the most reasonable one.
06:04:20 Devastator: I don't remember saying I was an atheist.
06:04:30 Devastator: What would make you think I think that?
06:04:57 ER: she believes in the goblin god,
syv
06:05:17 MidJag: Has
Dev been a lady goblin this whole time?
06:06:00 syv: Only
ER and I are unreasonable, as is only right.
06:06:04 Devastator: I'm mostly wondering what I said..
06:06:12 syv: How have you not known this?
06:07:25 syv: You didn't confirm or deny it, you just gave a response which was fairly negative, though literally only defining a word, and I took it as a "no".
06:07:55 Devastator: I don't think anyone can have faith without doubting.
06:08:09 ER: someone tells me the sky is plaid, and I can either say they're wrong or admit they might be right.
06:08:11 Devastator: That's how you find out if you have faith to begin with.
06:09:02 syv: So, theist? Or merely an observation?
06:09:27 Devastator: Dunno. You could put me in any of those categories depending on how you evaluate me.
06:10:08 syv: The answer of a person who's had this discussion before. :P
06:10:51 ER: so only if you say it's more reasonable for me to say that I kinda believe something that I don't for the sake of not annoying people.
06:11:10 syv: For the record, I consider atheism the most unreasonable stance, with agnosticism the most reasonable. Theism is somewhere between, though in an irrelevant, outside-view way.
06:11:23 Devastator: Well, then you have your answer.
06:11:33 MidJag: I'm the youngest here, and I've had this conversation before. I'd expect
dev would have had this discssion the most :P
06:14:32 ER: agnostisism often to me seems to be "something between the two available options; atheism or christianity". Which to me seems like an artificial position designed to sound reasonable to most people in this particular culture, which mostly consists of those two.
06:15:14 ER: But I say there's infinite options, an infinite number of which nobody believes in.
06:16:46 Devastator: Whatever gets you through the night.
06:17:06 ER: Getting through the night is the default result!
06:17:16 ER: All I have to do is keep existing!
06:17:33 syv: Atheism to me means that the concept of a singular entity which created all things is personally fantastic and unbelievable, in much the same way I can't imagine gravity pulling up. I personally feel agnosticism makes more sense as far as logic goes, and theism makes more sense as far as pragmatism goes.
06:19:18 ER: I get through the night until I don't, at which point I won't be getting through any more nights because either me, terra, or sol have stopped meaningfully existing.
06:21:41 ER: I don't need beliefs to get through the night. I need food water and oxygen to do that.
06:22:06 Devastator: That sounds like a belief in itself.
06:22:36 ER: it is a belief in itself, and if I didn't have it I'd get through the night just as well.
06:23:11 Devastator: ..and would have some other belief.
06:23:30 syv: You need a reason to keep on living, or at the very least a reason to not self-terminate. Simple pain can act as a decent reason to eat and drink and such, but maintenance of life is a bit more than that, and simple pain doesn't encourage eating and drinking quite enough.
06:24:59 ER: Most of life seems motivated enough to keep existing.
06:25:06 Devastator: I've seen belief accomplish too much to say that people get through the night fine without one. It really does seem to help people do more.
06:27:42 Devastator: But you could also call that some other kind of motivation, or some goal, or plan.
06:28:23 ER: the best motivation is spite.
06:28:35 MidJag: spite is an amazing motivation.
06:29:36 syv: Hedonism sucks as a motivation.
06:30:08 Devastator: Quiet you anti eudamonic.
06:30:08 syv: Hatred is really powerful though, I'll give you that. I consider spite a subset of hatred.
06:30:24 Devastator: I suppose 'counter' would be better.
06:31:54 syv: I read about eudaemon literally three days ago, and I'm not sure how the title applies to either me OR
MJ.
06:33:02 ER: most living things are both pretty good at living and don't appear to have belief.
06:33:10 syv: "Anti/counter-eudamonic" seems to suit
ER's statements well, but why would you be quieting *him*?
06:33:23 Devastator: "Hedonism sucks as a motivation."
06:33:57 Devastator: I like the one with the stool sample.
06:34:51 syv: I wholly agree with that comic.
06:36:16 syv: @
Dev IIRC Eudamon is a general term for "good living", without really meaning much, but... Plato I think, or maybe Socrates, or maybe both, argued that it could only be achieved by virtuous living, where you live "right", versus hedonistic living, where you sate your needs without care for morality.
06:36:38 ER: life that's good at surviving is life that survives, and I'm some of that life, belief or not.
06:36:47 syv: Neither of which I quite agree with, but I certainly wouldn't put myself in the sociopahic hedonism camp.
06:37:17 ER: I don't need to find a reason to choose to keep existing, because most of my body is for living and not for thinking.
06:37:42 ER: So if I let it do that and instead think about what I like, I'll live.
06:37:49 Devastator: It could be the opposite way around, where the good life is the one where everyone gets to be hedonistic.
06:38:12 syv: Oh, also, "Arete" is the latin word for virtue here, which is notable because that's the name I gave to my catgirl char in Sialia's vampire game. I had no idea at the time. :P
06:38:40 ER: too bad that one didn't last
06:39:57 Devastator: you can only bloodsuck catgirls.
06:41:16 ER: it occurs to me that I really don't know what kind of demon rakiit should turn into.
06:42:18 ER: you're already an unreasonably fast animal person, which is basically a demon already
06:42:54 syv: I actually liked her, Arete was deeply painful to write, almost as bad as Lucy. I'm glad that game died TBH.
06:42:55 syv: More cat? Turn into a furry by steps?
06:45:09 Devastator: Maybe. Just act like this is a human with 1 corruption, say.
06:47:46 ER: you wake up as a demon. everything's the same except you're even faster.
06:48:03 MidJag: I'm curious what Alex becomes
06:49:08 Devastator: Strong and fast, but slow.
06:49:13 Devastator: until Rakiit has to carry him.
06:49:25 ER: as if alex boy is ever going to take a scratch~
06:49:46 Devastator: could go with the drugs.
06:50:16 Devastator: more cat and more drug dependant.
06:50:24 MidJag: I could see Rakiit as just an ungodly fast cat thing.
06:52:38 syv: Maybe she'll become a cheetahgirl instead of a catgirl?
06:52:56 MidJag: Cheetah would probably make more sense honestlly
06:54:24 ER: gotta consider when you'll start feeling hungry or sleepy in AH.
06:54:40 Devastator: Probably a lot faster.
06:54:57 MidJag: Both of those things can be solved with drugs really,
06:55:07 ER: hm, what's that abbriviation?
06:56:05 Devastator: Well, we were discussing how Fern doesn't seem to get hungry.
06:56:12 ER: this otherworld is a bit different from that one
06:56:16 MidJag: That's a fair point really
06:56:33 MidJag: Then again has she been alive consistnelly enough to get hungy?
06:56:41 ER: in TH, you get hungry, but you don't die...
06:57:00 MidJag: Also Rakiit just ate
ER.
06:57:12 MidJag: That needed a comma there I think
06:57:17 Devastator: She ate parts of some demon.
06:58:00 ER: maybe why I don't tend to make totally villainous enemies ;-;
07:00:14 syv: Dogs seem pretty villainous to me...
07:04:11 MidJag: Also
syv I can't rember you don't read AH right?
07:04:26 Devastator: I know
Piecewise doesn't.
07:05:00 syv: I've read a bunch, and heard more, but no, I don't follow it. It makes me deeply unhappy.
07:05:25 syv: The cosmology is... upsetting.
07:05:58 syv: It's absurdist, absurdism is just extremely unpleasant to me.
07:06:21 ER: too bad, because I quite like absurdism
07:06:40 MidJag: Howe'ver it's also like two AM.
07:06:45 Devastator: I'm about 50-50 on it.
07:06:54 MidJag: And my brain is still restaring from last night.
07:07:19 ER: I also like eldritch horror, which is like absurdism taking itself too seriously~
07:10:43 syv: I like eldritch horror, but that's a different kind of thing. That's more like amorphous fear sinking into a mundane world, it's a very different kind of thing to absurdism IMO.
07:11:05 MidJag: absurd exstneialism is one of my favorites frankly.
07:11:21 MidJag: It's like everythings pointless, but it's also funny, so fuck it.

07:13:54 Devastator: unfortunately the stunlock didn't work like I thought I did, so I didn't no-damage her.
07:14:07 Devastator: Could have done so had I just played it safe.

07:15:12 MidJag: I don't think anyone but full on libertarians love monopolies
syv~
07:15:17 Devastator: Or (spoilers here) if you're playing on Nightmare and do (ridiculous thing X)
07:15:17 ER: I don't remember you doing so
07:15:53 syv: Two things before

07:15:59 syv: One:
MJ, I'm beginning to suspect that you may be an inverted version of myself.
07:16:00 ER: I think that may depend on the flavor of libertarian
07:16:02 MidJag: And in the new game
dev the spider boss comes from a lady who made a deal with demons.
07:16:22 syv: Two: I have a torrent which I'm going to link in like two minutes.
07:16:27 Devastator: maybe they knew of Doom the Roguelike.

07:18:41 Devastator: Doom without levels, unlocks, or online features.
07:18:49 MidJag: It's where doom guy only kills demons that really desrve it~

07:19:30 Devastator: Only until someone makes it be.
07:19:39 MidJag: OG Doom had a multiplayer didn't it?
07:19:43 ER: I haven't heard anything about this one having a deathwatch mode like the 2016 one

07:21:52 MidJag: The first EP is just MP beasts fighting.
07:22:02 syv: It's really good, episodes are short, and wholly self-contained. We can jump around and watch them in random orders with no issue. Most are also good enough for a rewatch.
