03:22:04 MidJag: lo
03:26:06 Devastator: heya MJ.
03:26:15 Devastator: I'm going to try and update birdgame Tuesday.
03:26:20 Devastator: had a good D&D sess today.
03:28:22 MidJag: nice
03:28:30 MidJag: What did you end up playing?
03:29:22 Devastator: I didn't have a sheet ready. A halfling bard.
03:29:30 Devastator: Went through the entire session without taking damage.
03:29:37 MidJag: hah, nice.
03:29:50 Devastator: Also rolled the most ridiculous statline I've ever seen.
03:30:03 Devastator: 17, 15, 14, 14, 14, 13.
03:30:12 MidJag: Damn.
03:30:50 MidJag: That's quite the statline
03:31:56 Devastator: Yeah.
03:33:43 MidJag: I'm playing a DnD game with a gnome wizard that's go stat's about that.
03:33:46 MidJag: ^t
03:34:02 Devastator: Yow.
03:34:20 MidJag: Yes, he is kind of ridiciulous.
03:34:45 MidJag: how did you end up enjoying the bard?
03:34:55 Devastator: It was fun. I didn't really know the rules.
03:35:14 Devastator: but I made every save and got a lot of stuff done.
03:35:57 MidJag: nice. What subclass were you?
03:36:49 Devastator: There are subclasses?
03:37:45 MidJag: yeah, it's for bard's it's called college of the X.
03:37:53 MidJag: ^for
03:37:55 Devastator: Oh.
03:38:04 Devastator: didn't really matter. I took the one with extra weapon proficiencies.
03:38:17 MidJag: Cool
03:38:58 Devastator: Which did come up because we looted a giant triple crossbow from a weapon trap.
03:40:17 MidJag: neat.
03:40:27 MidJag: Were you all casters or something>
03:40:29 MidJag: ^?
03:41:12 Devastator: The opposite, actually. No casters.
03:44:17 MidJag: Bard are casters though
03:45:01 Devastator: Yes.
03:45:04 Devastator: but you know what I mean.
03:45:08 Devastator: no casters save for myself.
03:45:26 MidJag: Ah.
03:45:32 Devastator: but yeah, bards are casters.
03:45:41 Devastator: casters/skillmonkeys.
03:45:49 MidJag: They're actually one of the best castes in the game.
03:46:10 MidJag: ...Though really all of the casters are pretty good.
03:46:18 MidJag: Except for maybe the warlock.
03:46:20 Devastator shrogs.
03:46:23 Devastator: probably, really.
03:47:13 MidJag: What were the other charecters?
03:48:25 Devastator: a monk/rogue, a fighter, a barbarian, and a druid.
03:48:28 Devastator: so sorta two casters.
03:48:32 Devastator: but the druid was also new.
03:48:54 MidJag: Ah
03:49:12 MidJag: Interesting party.
03:50:24 Devastator: The funny part was taking no damage through the entire module-thingy.
03:51:29 MidJag: Did you guys just do like no combat?
03:52:10 Devastator: No, I just always had a wall between me and the enemies, and made every single save.
03:52:22 MidJag: hah, nice
03:53:23 Devastator: Everyone else took damage..
03:55:43 MidJag: Well they fuffilied their role as meatshield very well. ::P
03:56:37 Devastator: lightning bolt! (miss)
03:56:45 Devastator: lightning bolt! (miss)
03:56:55 Devastator: save or die! (save)
03:56:57 Devastator: etc.
03:57:05 Devastator: didn't happen too much, but it was about five or so.
03:58:47 MidJag: heh, clearlly RNJesus was with you
03:58:53 Devastator: Yeah.
03:59:00 Devastator: musta heard how bad I've been doing in forum games.
03:59:49 MidJag: indeed.
04:11:55 Devastator: how are you doing?
04:14:21 MidJag: Not bad, kinda busy as always, but springs breaks coming up so I'm looking forward to that.
04:15:09 Devastator: good luck.
04:15:22 Devastator: get drunk the appropriate number of times.
04:17:40 MidJag: I will be sure to.
04:19:02 MidJag: hows youre job?
04:19:10 MidJag: ^your
04:19:31 Devastator: ok.
04:34:22 Devastator: it's going fine.
04:34:47 MidJag: Cool
04:44:06 Devastator: They added natural disasters to civ VI.
04:44:08 Devastator: It's stupid.
04:45:39 MidJag: oh?
04:47:15 Devastator: Yeah. It's a lovely combination of bad mechanics combined with random destruction.
04:47:45 MidJag: heh
04:49:20 Devastator: escalating costs! What a wonderful idea.
04:51:42 Devastator: oh, it takes your city 30 turns to build something? No problem, that.
04:56:22 MidJag: heh, yeah random chance sounds annoying in a long term statregy game
05:00:14 Devastator: Basically.
05:00:32 Devastator: Plus the whole mechanic where you can only produce items through forest chops later in the game is absurd.
05:00:43 Devastator: As they're the only production method which scales with the costs.
05:01:39 MidJag: forest chops?
05:01:46 MidJag: as in like forest clearing?
05:02:16 Devastator: Yes.
05:02:26 Devastator: You cut one down, you get a certain amount of production.
05:02:42 Devastator: For instance, an ordinary hill with a mine might make four production.
05:03:22 Devastator: An industrial zone, produced with 100 production units, and with another 100 production to make a factory, might produce 12 units of production a turn.
05:03:30 Devastator: A forest chop produces ~240.
05:04:00 MidJag: heh
05:04:08 Devastator: A new industrial zone at that point would cost about 360 production, or one and a half chops.
05:04:15 Devastator: A new military unit might be another 200 production.
05:04:31 Devastator: So.. yeah. Chops or nothing, really.
05:04:46 Devastator: The costs have to be so high because of the one-unit-per-tile rule.
05:04:58 MidJag: I guess you could set up a ton of industry and get the passive production bonus to be super high
05:05:19 Devastator: You can't. It means you didn't spend that production on winning.
05:05:40 Devastator: You just pissed it away on.. more production, which would take another 70 turns to break even, and the game is over before that point comes.
05:07:58 MidJag: ah
05:08:11 Devastator: Yeah.
05:08:19 MidJag: Well then time to go the way of ruthless robber baron then :P
05:08:20 Devastator: Or someone else chopped out an army and you can now.. not defend yourself.
05:08:36 MidJag: Deforest everything!
05:08:57 Devastator: Deforest.. with caution, as you can't replant forests for about 75% of the game.
05:09:07 Devastator: but yeah, plan to do everything.
05:10:48 Devastator: up for any more survivor?
05:11:28 MidJag: Finishing up a lab report right now, but maybe.
05:11:41 Devastator: ok.
05:13:41 Devastator: Ahh, halfling rogue Pick Fairyfingers.

05:16:58 Devastator: don't see him.
05:17:08 Devastator: Hmm, what's the best instrument for a halfling bard..
05:17:10 Devastator: other than bagpipes.
05:19:00 MidJag: picolo? To be annoyinnglly twe
05:19:01 MidJag: e
05:19:58 syv: THE SKULLS OF HIS ENEMIES
05:20:12 MidJag: It should not take an hour to draw a single not very complicated mechanism in this fucking software.
05:20:31 syv: "in this fucking software"
05:20:45 syv: It can take as long as the designer wanted~
05:20:48 Devastator: Welcome to 3-d printing software.
05:20:55 Devastator: god, it's terrible.
05:21:20 MidJag: Drawing in 3d sounds horrible
05:22:04 Devastator: It's mostly because the software is beyond horrid.
05:22:12 Devastator: which is because the other software is terrible.
05:25:22 MidJag: Just clunky? Or horrible UI or something?
05:25:30 Devastator: all of the above.
05:25:37 Devastator: it's because you are using a vector drawer without vector software.
05:25:52 Devastator: so there's two levels of translation.
05:26:18 Devastator: And you can't do vector software because then it would be very difficult to use rather than easy to use but incredibly tedious.

05:35:46 Devastator: good lord he's a good player.

06:23:39 syv: I've seen ones with likes but no dislikes.

10:43:04 ER: is it two orders of magnatude? depends, I guess.
10:43:13 Devastator: Two probably.
10:43:25 Devastator: 60 years to .6 years.
10:43:33 Devastator: two to thee.
10:44:24 ER: .6 years? A smart Innocent could probably do better than that.

10:49:39 ER: She has a gun, she must be a smart one right
10:49:59 Devastator: Don't shoot me in the head and you get to keep your wish. ;-p
10:50:19 syv: 0.06 years isn't all that odd, a little low probably but not an unreasonable assumption. So three orders of magnitude is prolly most accurate.
10:51:16 ER: Like two weeks?
10:51:42 Devastator: Could be.
10:51:48 Devastator: average is probably between two and twenty weeks.
10:51:50 Devastator: maybe less.
10:51:55 ER: Okay, but I'll try my best to beat seven months. :P
10:52:01 Devastator: Probably not .2 weeks.
10:52:57 syv: Majority of magical girls don't survive two witches unless in a team, a good number of *that* group doesn't survive their first.
10:53:15 syv: How many of this team could have taken Maria's labyrinth solo, really?
10:54:00 syv: Tooru might've been able to power through, while Alida's tough and clever enough, but Mina and Asha would prolly have floundered and died.
10:55:32 ER: I could probably solo maria if I surpress my extravagant tendancies. >_>
10:55:49 Devastator: Maria was the first one, right?
10:56:04 syv: `1
10:56:16 ER: Pretty simple navigation / observation / killshot.
10:57:15 ER: So the thing I guess is that your life expectancy goes up quite a bit after two or three seeds.
10:57:26 Devastator: Maybe goes down.
10:57:30 Devastator: less spare soul.
10:57:33 Devastator: You start full after all.
10:57:45 ER: Less from the increased power and more because that shows that you know what you're doing.
10:59:57 Devastator: I really am hoping for some casulties eventually so someone can do a max stage increase.
11:00:17 Devastator: a level beyond radiant! ;-p
11:00:42 ER: It goes up to Grossly Incandecent.
11:01:49 Devastator: I did mostly solo Maria's, too..
11:01:59 Devastator: might have gotten killed from soul drain.
11:02:05 Devastator: could probably do it after the level up.
11:31:12 ER: okay this one's cool https://youtu.be/SEejivHRIbE
11:36:37 ER: the comments are an amusing mix tho :P
11:52:21 syv: Well that was awesome.
11:52:33 syv: I like how the guy who did that says he's the director.
11:52:58 syv: Now if only he named the salamander and credited it with the lead role.
11:53:05 ER: yes.
11:53:26 ER: I think it might be put together from multiple salamaders though.
11:55:04 ER: says it's six months of filming
11:55:15 syv: Then he should have named them ALL and credited each of them for which part of the film they starred in.
11:55:23 ER: yes.
11:56:06 syv: "Newtly Yellowpants - Endoderm delineation"
11:57:04 ER: I am slightly annoyed at the commenters crediting god for the stuff that life does on its own. <.<
11:58:20 syv: Eh, why not let them pretend that the designer was sane and competent?
11:59:22 ER: it's the work of the single most complex and amazing machine we know of and they blame it on a boring self-perfect machine.
12:01:11 ER: The designer is and was the best kind of insane there is and it insults life to pretend that it's perfectly put together by an unseen absolute perfect thingy.
12:01:39 syv: Luckily, life doesn't care about these insults.

16:30:06 ER: I like this system where most actions on your turn consume Speed, you gain 1 Speed every time someone else does something, and your turn starts when you reach your maximum speed.
16:31:54 ER: But it's a little terrible also.
16:32:40 ER: I would like a system where you can sync up your turn with an ally and then do things coordinated-like.
16:37:43 ER: IE if you have a room with two enemies camping the corners and waiting for you to move in, with a mechanic like FS2's focus diamond you could sweep in and get one of those guys, then the other would shoot you in the back. But if you can have both you and a buddy moving at the same time, you can clear the room with no casualties.
16:42:08 Piecewise_: what system is that?
16:42:19 Piecewise_: It sounds like a modified AP system
16:46:03 ER: Thinking of ways to refine my tactical combat system to be better suited to a "realistic" military setting.
16:46:41 ER: Rather than a bunch of punks murdering each other in hell using baseball bats and submachine guns.
16:47:43 ER: though preferably not making things considerably more complicated, even if that means not being entirely realistic.
16:48:25 ER: my existing system is designed to be more deadly than life, like Hotline Miami.
16:49:05 ER: Or I dunno, various thriller films. that sort of genre of hyper violence.

21:42:41 Radio_Controlled: No prob, glad to help.
21:43:15 Radio_Controlled: I'm ok. Got a labmeeting presentation Thursday, stress for that is rising slowly but surely.
21:43:54 Radio_Controlled: But, on the other hand it's been carnival for the last few days here so that helped to keep my mind of it.
21:44:02 midnightjaguar_: Ah yes. I’m very familiar with that feeling

21:46:52 midnightjaguar_: And I’m supirised anywhere in Europe has carnivals in March it seems kinda cold :P
21:48:43 Radio_Controlled: We just tough it out :p
22:05:58 Radio_Controlled: So will you actually be able to use that paper, you think?
22:25:14 midnightjaguar_: Maybe? I have a bunch of papers similar to it already. But having different names for the same thing is always useful and the fact that they called it conditioned.
22:26:00 Radio_Controlled: Hmm, I see. Good luck with the assignment either way.
22:26:34 midnightjaguar_: Thanks. If it turns into something cool I’ll send you the paper :P
22:26:52 midnightjaguar_: Good luck with your graduate school endeavors
